The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they executed ‘wide-scale’ strikes against Hezbollah targets on Sunday in response to a series of rocket attacks from Lebanon that targeted various communities in northern Israel.
The IDF reported that their fighter jets targeted and struck military structures, rocket launchers, and additional assets owned by the Iran-supported terrorist organization in retaliation to the rocket assaults. They also mentioned initiating gunfire in various border regions to neutralize perceived threats.
Israel has declared that it will no longer accept Hezbollah’s presence along its northern border, particularly in the wake of the October 7 massacre by Hamas. In that incident, thousands of terrorists infiltrated Israel from Gaza, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 individuals and the abduction of over 240 people, primarily civilians.
A senior defense source, who chose to remain anonymous, informed Walla that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was caught off guard not only by the IDF’s resolve and willingness to engage in combat, including making sacrifices, but also by the magnitude of forces that have been deployed along the border since the start of hostilities, aimed at diminishing his capabilities.
“The important thing is that the surprise he was thinking of was denied him,” the unnamed military source told Walla. “He cannot surprise the IDF at the line of contact. At the same time, the IDF is planning a strong and multi-layered line of fortifications to deny its [Hezbollah] capabilities in the future. It will not be the same border after what we saw happen at the border of the Gaza Strip. It will be a different border.”
According to reports from Israeli media, Hezbollah has started to pull back its elite Radwan forces from southern Lebanon over the weekend. This move is seen as a response to concerns about an unexpected attack by the IDF and a potential intensification of the conflict along Israel’s northern border.
Media outlets have reported that in addition to the elite Radwan forces, thousands of operatives from various sectors of Hezbollah’s Shi’ite armed wing were also relocated, positioning them further from the Israeli border.
Hezbollah announced on Saturday that at least 123 of its members were killed by precision strikes conducted by the IDF along the Lebanese border over the span of two months.
