  1. Palestine in 1922 became probably the start of the first successful national malaria-eradication campaign anywhere in the world. See http://www.eradication-of-malaria.com . 100 years ago, Palestine was drenched in malaria, and was accordingly either uninhabitable in many areas or thinly populated. The Zionists had to make it habitable if settlement was to be possible.
