Intl. law expert: Biden Admin. using Security Council to bully Israel

T. Belman. Mudar has been telling me for over a year that the UAE is not our friend despite having signed the Abraham Accords.

UN resolution failing to condemn or mention Hamas but demanding ceasefire set for vote after wording slightly changed to appease US.

The United Nations Security Council will vote on a resolution demanding the suspension of Israel’s war against the Hamas terrorist organization and the provision of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

The vote, which was originally scheduled for Monday afternoon, has been delayed three times in an attempt to avoid an American veto of the resolution. It was previously scheduled for 5 pm Eastern Standard Time today. The US has vetoed multiple resolutions on the war between Israel and Hamas since the October 7 massacre, though it allowed the passage of a resolution that failed to condemn Hamas on November 15.

The initial drafts of the resolution published Monday morning called for the “urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities,” implying a complete ceasefire that would leave Hamas in power in Gaza despite its leaders’ stated goal of repeating the atrocities of October 7. The new version of the resolution, revealed by Al Jazeera journalist Rami Ayari, replaces “cessation” with the word “suspension,” a change that would imply an impermanent ceasefire.

It is unclear if this change will be enough to ensure that the US abstains and allows the resolution to pass rather than use its veto.

The draft resolution “demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access to address the medical needs of all hostages.”

Touro Insitute on Human Rights and the Holocaust Director and Human Rights Voices President Professor Anne Bayefsky condemned the resolution and the Biden Administration for allowing the UAE to draft the resolution in such a one-sided manner.

“The Biden Administration is now using the UN Security Council to bully and threaten the one and only Jewish state while currying favor with the 56 Arab and Islamic forces running circles around the U.S. The Council has been busy negotiating a resolution that has almost made it to the finish line. A resolution that refuses to condemn Hamas for October 7th and beyond, makes no mention of Israel’s UN Charter right of self-defense, and says nothing about Palestinian rockets or terror tunnels. It also sets up a never-ending array of Israel-bashing sessions at the Council from this point on. (Instead of spending time on the billions suffering around the world who don’t have wealthy antisemites in their corner,” Prof. Bayefsky told Israel National News – Arutz Sheva.

“The weakness of the Biden administration at this moment is astounding. U.S. taxpayers pay the UN bills and yet are being pushed around by some of the world’s worst human rights abusers and anti-Israel agents at home and abroad. We are witnessing the collapse of the moral backbone of the United States of America. Spinelessness isn’t pretty,” she said.

  1. @Leon I thought it might be funny to use leftwing jargon to say rightwing things in a satirical way. For example:

It’s all the product of the absence of a level playing field in Gaza. Gaza needs to be leveled. I’m glad to see Israel implementing Affirmative Action policies in Gaza which conform to the policies of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The targets are diverse, terrorist commanders as well as rank and file, and where unavoidable their human shields/collaborators are included as well. Nobody is left out.
    😀

  2. Thanks for all the helpful responses. I would expect some nasty reactions but maybe, just maybe, not too bad. Here’s hoping!

  3. Who said the US is being pushed around?
When actually the Soros/Obama are doing their best to undermine the US & Israel?
    This may be by DESIGN!

  4. REUVENI_

There would be loud threats, temporary disruptions of Israel trade, and then it would fade away. Israel exports double to the EU as it imports from them.
They all need Israel fora large variety of reasons and far too much for any permanent embargo.

Israel should have seriously threatened to leave the UN long ago. Opened other markets in the East to more than compensate. 2/3rd of the world’s population lives there getting more economically relevant every day.

Israel should have been setting up arms and ammunitions plants there with gradually transferring them to Israel over a period of years to become Military Materiel self-sufficcient,,,,,,,,,

This would dramatically lower costs of production, make friendly Eastern governments, and raise their living standards.

LEON- Since the beginning I’ve been writing that the Primary GOAL is to totally destroy Hamas, and the Hostages, whilst very important, are secondary to the main goal. The War is not to save the hostages but to totally destroy Hamas, and MUST be front and centre of all IDF actions.

They are doing a great and enormously difficult job, badly hampered by internationsl demands and interference. They should NOT send in a dingle frop of fuel, fook or other items supposedly humanitarian, but immediately grabbed by Hamas and used to kill our wonderful IDF young men.

    It MUST stop.

Hamas is on it’s beam ends and wants a ceasefire in the worst way. My only frar if that they will be killing the hostage in revenge fro not being able to dictate any longer.

  5. I predicted this quagmire. This is exactly why I was hoping for Israel to turn all of Gaza into rubble. To do that they’d have to put the hostages on the back burner. I know it sounds callous but that was the best and only way to finish the job successfully in short order. We all knew that sooner than later any pro-Israel sentiments would turn around. And boy they did so very quickly. The other side benefit of this strategy is that Israel wouldn’t need to beg the US for Iron dome ammunition. They’d be on attack, not defense. So then Bibi could and should tell the world (mostly directed at the US), that the arab world must take in Gazans or else they will all die because Israel will rule Gaza forever once Hamas is destroyed. Instead of the US pressuring Israel to stop fighting the US should pressure it’s arab states who receive billions of dollars in aid every year, to take in their arab brothers or else no more aid for them. Either case is a win for us. If the US refuses, all the arabs in Gaza die. No more arabs in Gaza! Shore up the fence between Israel and Egypt. Then focus on the north (Hezbola and Iran). The other benefit is that Hezbolla and Iran will be shaking in their boots once they see what Israel did to Gaza. That psychological advantage plays a large role in every war. They will see that international pressure has no more effect on Israel.

  6. @dreuveni
Well, we are not in the same position as Russia

    stopping the war in Ukraine

Russia is on the Security Council and can veto the resolution.

  7. the one and only Jewish state

    I hate this formulation.
It delegitimizes Israel by making it sound like a religious enterprise.
    Nobody says
“the one and only French state”
“the one and only Polish state”
“the one and only Japanese state”
“the one and only Russian state”
“the one and only Swedish state”
    !!!

  8. Please help me here. What happens if Israel simply refused to comply with the resolution? Knowing the UNSC a little, they may be amenable to a delayed response because nothing can happen immediately.
What about arguments along the lines of stopping the war in Ukraine, Yemen etc?
The whole story smacks of the two tier justice system against Trump or Netanyahu.
