Peloni: In a sea of madness, Tommy Robinson has presented a clear voice of sanity, heralding the Western world to recognize the war which they are losing and the nature of the evil to which they are capitulating. May he go from victory to victory as he continues to fight the scourge of Jihad which has infected the West, and may his enemies never succeed in silencing him.

This is not accurate. The Ukrainians chewed up the combined military donations of the West, as well as its latest Western trained army in that offensive. You don’t really think of such losses as a draw, do you? It clearly wasn’t as this led to the collapse of Avdiika which should have easily withstood the Russian assault. Notably, the reason that Avdiika fell was due to Ukraine’s lack of munitions and men, both of which were well spent in the failed Summer Offensive. These were strategic victories gained exclusively by Russia during the Summer Offensive which led to the catastrophic loss of a fortress which should have been capable of being held indefinitely by Ukraine. In fact, Avdiika should have had some 70K men manning that bastion but was instead held by a fraction of that number. Additionally, the Russians were firing some 5-10X the shells compared to the shells being used by Ukraine during that offensive. These are the definite advantages which came following the Summer Offenisve and they were very much in favor of Russia.
It is absurd to discuss the number of dead on either side. You have no better idea of the validity of the propaganda figures being posted than I do, so let us ignore such claims as this. What is clear is that Russia has the ability to call up far greater numbers than Ukraine could hope to do, and to demonstrate Ukraine’s need to do so, they just reduced the age of their forced conscription.
These penalizing attacks, particularly on the Russian civilians, will not advantage Ukraine, but instead are drawing the Russians to use more and more severe attacks as have been seen in recent weeks/months. If Ukraine can not fill their ranks with trained troops and provide them with munitions to answer the attacks from Russia, Ukraine has no path to victory, any more than does Hamas.
Fairly stated.
Well, it will entirely depend upon the election result. The only reason this war continues is due to US support for it and Trump will not support it. He won’t abandon Ukraine as some would like him to do, but he will force the two sides to accept fair terms and end the war. He will have influence over both sides, whereas the current administration will not use its greatest weapon against Russia, gas and oil drilling. It won’t be an easy negotiation, and no one should be deluded to believe it will take a day to complete, but Trump will end this war in short order and return some sense of stability to the region.
Of course, if Trump does not return to power, many unfortunate things will transpire, and the scenario you describe above would clearly be counted among them.
Hi, Peloni
I presume you know, as well as I do, that Ronald Reagan is not, and had not been, the focus of this conversation. More to the point, you said,
To this day, the “infamous Summer Offensive” has not given a definite advantage to either side. A year ago, Russia held about the same acreage as today. It also had hundreds of thousands more men alive than now; Moscow had not been attacked as much as it has been recently, Russia had hundreds of tanks and a dozen warships more than now, and airstrikes had not yet penetrated, on a regular basis, from St. Petersburg to Siberia. Ukraine, of course, did not significantly advance either, and its civilian infrastructure had not yet suffered as much damage as it has.
What HAS changed since last summer, is that NATO countries have had, and are continuing to have, multiple important elections: the most important, I think you would agree, being that underway now in the USA. At any rate, what seems to have been amazingly intractable is how far apart our (your and my) opinion of Vladimir Putin has been. (sad!)
I believe the Russia-Ukraine conflict (or “Evil Empire” vs “Good Empire”, whichever side you think is playing which role) will continue untill one side has exhausted itself as far as it wishes to go. Some people think that will be November, 2024. I’m not that optimistic.
@Michael
Actually, the Evil Empire referenced the Soviet Union alone rather than these nations you list above. While none of these other nations were included in the Soviet Union, Russia was, but so too was Ukraine. So suggesting that the ‘Evil Empire’ as envisioned by Reagan is relevant to the nations you listed above would be both anachronistic and inaccurate, at the same time. Russia is no longer a Communist nation today and Communism was the source of Evil to which Reagan opposed the collective of Soviet states. So, while Reagans stand against the Soviets was pivotal in their choosing their own downfall, it would be quite irrelevant to seek any relevance for his opposition to but a part of the old Soviet dominion to apply against the states you listed above, who lack any tight association or Union as did the old Soviet realm.
One more thing. If you really believe that Reagan saw Iran as being included in the Evil Empire, as your statement suggests, you will have to explain why he was supporting that nation with arms. This is a fascinating unforced error which implicates Reagan in both shame and criminality, for which he successfully avoided any meaningful penalty, and that was, itself, yet another crime, or so I would suggest.
I would phrase this differently. Ukraine HAD the backing of the GOVTs of the Western World til last summer. The failure of the infamous Summer Offensive changed many things for Ukraine, as it only demonstrated the fact that their fate is beyond the West’s ability to significantly impact with added funding. In fact, the only thing which might save them from utter destruction would be to survive long enough to see Trump return to office next year, something which the Ukrainian sources of dark money will ironically enough almost certainly work to oppose.
Hi, Peloni. You said,
You appear to be acknowledging that Ukraine has the backing of the Western World (aka the “First World” aka the “Free World” aka the G7 and ALL its allies). I will add that India, the world’s most populous nation, is neutral on the matter. What you are left with, supporting Russia, are Russia itself, North Korea Iran, Communist China, Communist Cuba, Communist Nicaragua, Communist Venezuela, etc — roughly what US President Reagan once called the “Evil Empire”.
This is what I have been saying all along; so on that point, we are in agreement.
