High Noon at the UN

Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger, “Second Thought”
“Israel Hayom” Newsletter, September 12, 2011

President Obama joins the campaign against the Palestinian UN initiative in spite of his belief that the UN is the quarterback of international relations, in defiance of his closest advisors – UN Ambassador Susan Rice, Director of Multilateral Affairs Samantha Power and Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett – and irrespective of his support of Palestinian claims and his assumption that the Palestinian issue is the root cause of Middle East turbulence and the crown jewel of Arab policy-making.

However, President Obama operates within the Federalist system which precludes an omnipotent president, and significantly constrains his maneuverability. It accords Congress – a bastion of support of the Jewish State – power equal to that of the President, domestically and internationally. The clout of Congress grows in direct correlation to the weakness of Obama, whose popularity plunged from 65% in January 2009 to 39% in August 2011. Obama is aware that House and Senate Democratic leaders, such as House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Relations Committee Howard Berman, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and former Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Robert Menendez, would suspend foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority, should the Palestinians proceed with their UN initiative. The President is cognizant of the fact that their support is critical to his reelection aspirations in November 2012.

Moreover, the US Congress constitutes the most authentic representative of the American people, who – especially upon the tenth anniversary of 9/11 – consider Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims as part of the terrorist threat, view the UN as a role-model of ingratitude and treat Israel as a special, capable, democratic and unconditional ally.

The US campaign against the Palestinian initiative at the UN is driven by the American People’s and Congress’ identification with the Jewish State, and by their mistrust of the UN and the Palestinians. According to a May 26, 2011 CNN poll, 82% of Americans consider Israel an ally and a friend, compared with 72% in 2001. 67% support Israel, while only 16% support the Palestinians, who are as unpopular as Iran (15%) and North Korea (17%). According to a February, 2011 Gallup poll, 68% consider Israel an ally; the April 2011 Rasmussen Report shows that most Americans oppose foreign aid to Arab countries but support foreign aid to Israel; a September 2010 Rasmussen Report indicates that most Americans are willing to defend militarily only five other countries – Canada, Britain, Israel, Germany and Mexico; and the April 2010 Quinnipiac Polling Institute determines that 66% expect Obama to improve treatment of Israel.

According to a February, 2011 Gallup poll, 62% of Americans think that the UN is performing poorly, compared with 30% in 1953. A February, 2011 Rasmussen Report determined that only 27% of likely US voters regard the UN as an ally of the US, while 15% consider the UN an enemy and 54% are undecided.

Congressional attitudes toward the UN reflect public resentment of anti-American bias in the UN, a home court for anti-US countries in general and Islamic and rogue regimes in particular, even though the US funds 22% of the UN budget. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, recently introduced the United Nations Transparency, Accountability and Reform Act, which would cut off US contributions to any UN entity that grants membership, or any other upgraded status, to the Palestinian Authority. According to Ros-Lehtinen, “UN obsession with castigating Israel — from the Human Rights Council and the Goldstone Report and the Durban conferences to the multitude of UN bodies created for the sole purpose of condemning Israel — has eliminated UN credibility…. The UN’s most infamous anti-Israel act came in 1975, when the General Assembly voted to declare that ‘Zionism is racism.’”

Will Israel leverage the US attitude toward the UN and the Palestinian Authority, or will it persist in the policy of indecisiveness and retreat, which was initiated by the 1993 Oslo Accord?

  1. Keep drinking the kool-aid, Zuckerman…

Hmmm, let’s see what other kinds of Leftard excuse you can make for Bonzo Dreckula.

Again, facts are facts and reality ain’t fantasy. The Palestinians would never have dared push a Palestinian state if Bush was still the President of the United States. They do so only because they know they’ve got a patsy who has sent them 1.3 Billion in the past 3 years; someone who openly insulted the Prime Minister of Israel, and not just once. Someone who openly demands a return to indefensible, “Auschwitz” Borders, someone who won’t even go through the motions of acknowledging Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and someone who expressed more outrage and sickening concern over a Jew building a room or playground in Judea-Samaria than he ever did when his buddies in Tehran were raping and slaughtering women and children.

Yeah, mighty white of him and that plump little shrew to veto a Paly state, but at what price Israel? More demands to talk to an Abbas who is joke? Acceptance of Nuclear Iran?? (because we see how Barry deals with them – Syria and Iran may kill and seek nukes, but its a hapless Libya who gets the cruise missile strikes!)

Zuckerman, you are one pathetic dude. Go back to swilling the kool-aid.

  2. We are duly impressed Mr. Zuckerman,
Now that we know that love is in the air could you ask the person in the White House why does his administration keep 90, 90 nuclear weapons in Turkey at the INCERLIK TAFB? Those weapons were assigned or pre positioned there during the Cold War, which, to the best of my knowledge is not longer. Then why still there, I wonder.
40 nuclear bombs B61 gravity type were assigned to the TAF.
I know that the bombs have been de fused and it would take about two weeks to re activate them under protocol conditions, but we know that islamics care very little for protocola, don’t we?
I know I should not worry about the administration alliance with Israel… AHA! But just in case could you try to get the f bombs removed, like yesterday?
What possible use could Turkey have to retain indirect control of such arsenal? Me wonders…

    Just thinkin’… 😉

  3. lots of razzle dazzle here to discredit Obama but the simple fact: He and his Sec of State have gone on record that the US will veto any move in Security Council to accord a Palestinian state. Obama is the source and takes the credit for that, no matter what you dribble here to discredit him.

  4. Let us count the ways… in which the islamic aggregate in Judea, Samarian and Gaza prepares for stathehood,
    A) It has no history of its own because it did not exist before.
    B) It has not currency of its own.
    C) There are no water resources able to support their population much longer.
    D) There are no organized water treatment plants.
    E) They have no true industrial base. Even poultry vaccines are provided until now by Israel.
Meats and eggs from those areas a highly contaminated and are dangerous to consumers.
    F) They rely on huge donations to maintain a completely corrupt civil administration.
    G) The have no sea port.
    H) Medical care is at best, primitive.
    H) They have no airport or aircraft.
    J) Schools are more inclined to teach murder and mayhem rather than normal subjects.
    K) Chemical or pharm industry. Virtually none other than explosives production.
    L) No known ballet, classical orchestras, etc.
    M) Sports outside soccer are almost unknown.
    N) etc.
They will never own military aircraft or main tanks or artillery, etc.

We the people of Israel are under no obligation to in any way finance or feed or cure our enemies.
Based on long term experience, I cannot vouvh on that Israeli “leadership” will not fold and provided all of that anyway.

  5. The Palestinians, and anti-Semite groups of both the Left and the “Right” (if you consider Ron Paul’s own Obamists and their 9/11 “truther” – read LIAR allies of the Right) have become emboldened ever since the Obama occupany of the White House. Not only has he thrown this country under the bus in his quest for an “equalitarian” society and to enrich himself and his cronies, he has since day one been busy in throwing traditional allies under the bus too. There is NO one pro-Israel advocate in Team Obama, NOT one! But there are plenty of anti-Semites, self-haters and moral equaters who view Israel as a liability, NOT an asset. No need to regurgitate familiar names here, you can look them up. But I do feel the need to list some of the disgusting “Court Jews” who would have been equally at home in the Kremlin under Stalin even as he murdered fellow Jews or planned to ship them to Siberia…Bobby Wexler, Alan So-Low, Ira Forman, Penny Pritizker, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and others, all of whom would trip over themselves to defend overthemselves to denounce fellow Jews who don’t drink the kool-aid or the reality of the anti-Semitism of Obama and those around him.

Most still buy into it, despite the pressure on Israel, despite the insults to Bibi, despite the demand to go back to “Auschwitz Borders”, despite doing NOTHING about Iran, and despite an emboldened Palestinian terror entity 10 years after 9/11 and the dancing in the streets who because of Obama’s support and monetary contributions openly demand a state. But the cracks on the facade are much wider now.

The voters in NY District 9 wised up. And despite “nice” little Obamite gestures, like helping the trapped Israelis in the Cairo Embassy, or Shrillary saying the road to Palestine does not go through the UN, despite “court Jew” Danny Shapiro’s heralded visit to an Israeli air base, mouthing the usual crapola while his lips are still bussed to Democratic Party arse, they chose not to buy into the lies. Hopefully enough more in Pennsylvania and Florida will turn Obama’s 2012 hopes into his Gehenna, Not ours.

  6. Considering that Fistel supports the NATO/Islam war on Muammar Gadhafi, everything that he says on anything has to be seen against that. the above is meaningless and after his betrayal of the Jews in Libya (siding with Jihad) is a bit wierd!

  7. Will Israel leverage the US attitude toward the UN and the Palestinian Authority, or will it persist in the policy of indecisiveness and retreat, which was initiated by the 1993 Oslo Accord? Answer: Israel will persist in the policy of indecisiveness and retreat, which was initiated by the 1993 Oslo Accord because Israel is today’s version of George Orwell’s Animal Farm and the Settlers (And to some extent, the Religious and Chereidi Jews are Emmanuel Goldstein of Orwell’s 1984 for the Israeli Left which controls the country through the judiciary, courts and media. the Israeii court system whose former Israeil Supreme Court Justice Head Aharon Barak boasted that everything “judiciable” meaning that the Supreme Court can overturn any law legislated by the will of the people, has been impugned as the worst travesty of justice in the Western World by Justice Robert Borck. Israel’s Knesset has been compared to the ReichStag of the Weimar Republic by Middle East Scholar Bernard Lewis.
It will therefore be of no wonder how Israel act. The only question is when will there be a “Jewish Spring”, and will it be too late save Israel from itself?

  8. Obama loses his wiener:

In the 2010 election, when Republicans overwhelmingly regained the House, Jewish Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner still overwhelmingly defeated Republican Bob Turner 60-40.

When Weiner resigned in disgrace, the Republicans once again chose Turner to run. It looks like they did not expect him to win. The district was basically constructed so that any decent Democratic Jewish candidate would always win. It is mostly white middle class, and around 30-40% Jewish, including many Orthodox Jews. It is 75% registered Democrat, and a Republican had never won the district.

The Democrats chose a party hack to run, expecting an easy win. He was an Orthodox Jew, and strongly pro-Israel. But he was also that strange animal: a practicing Orthodox Jew who was nonetheless a hardcore social liberal, fervently supporting gay marriage and unlimited mosque building (including Ground Zero).

Bob Turner (a Catholic) said he was at least as pro-Israel as the Democrat, and far more pro-Israel than Obama. In addition, Turner was a social conservative who supported the white middle class and its values. He won 53-47.

Conclusions: Obama will lose in 2012 to any decent Republican candidate. Obama will not receive “78% of the Jewish vote” in 2012. Obama has effectively completed the polarization of America. The Republicans now represent traditional middle class white conservative Judeo-christian America, and the Democrats represent those who despise traditional middle class white conservative Judeo-christian America. Obama will now be cautious about trying to destroy Jewish Israel in the time he has left.
