Yossi Dagan, Head of the Shomron Regional Council, responded on Monday to a report which said that the Biden administration agreed to allow Israel to purchase thousands of M16 rifles from US companies, on condition that the weapons would not be distributed to community security squads in Judea and Samaria.

“There seems to be some serious confusion here. The residents of Judea and Samaria are in real and immediate danger. There is ample reason to fear that what happened in the south of Israel will be revisited on the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria that are adjacent to villages under Palestinian Authority control,” said Dagan.

“What the government should be doing right now is releasing a clear, factual and unequivocal statement to media outlets worldwide debunking the myth of ‘settler violence,’ a blood libel fabricated by an extreme leftist fringe organization. The Israeli government should be using the considerable resources at its disposal and its access to international media platforms to explain that the emergency first-response squads are organized IDF units dedicated to protecting communities against terrorists,” he added.

“We must not capitulate to the campaign of defamation being waged against half a million citizens of the State of Israel. While 80% of the male residents of Judea and Samaria are on emergency military duty and their families are home alone, worrying about the safety of their fathers and sons, our heads of state should not be encouraging this libelous campaign that is slandering the residents of these communities,” continued Dagan.

“The government should be speaking up and speaking out in their defense. I call upon the Prime Minister to notify the Americans immediately that weapons will be distributed to all Israeli soldiers, including those who live in Judea and Samaria. We will not be a party to this game of ‘whose blood is thicker,’” he concluded.

  1. It’s a non-issue.
Israel must have a large store of automatic weapons, rifles and handguns, It can issue other weapons without referring to the US. Israel makes weapons also. The US put that stipulation in as a political ploy to show it’s “even-handedness and a sop to the Arabs.

  2. Honeybee: I’m in Canada, and I’m FULLY armed; not just with guns.
I’m probably one of the few Jews in Canada that does this, so my fellow Jews either think I’m a headcase, or they strut around thinking about their innate moral superiority… So be it…

  3. This sounds like a wonderful idea from the Hamas point of view. Although I can think of a couple of solutions to this problem, will the US also attempt to prohibit the use of M16 rifles in the hands of serving soldiers?
I think, if Israel is no longer capable of producing its own rifles, it should consider an alternative source, maybe Russia or China???
