Technically it may be a Civil War, but the secession of Taiwan from China many years ago was a fact, and has acted and been regarded as a separate sovereign country by most of the rest of the world.
Hi, Adam.
If/when Xi attacks Taiwan, it would be a civil war: Chinese killing Chinese. It would be Hong Kong, multiplied, as far as stirring up discontent within China. We also do not know how Japan will perform in such a situation. The PM has said that they will fight to defend Taiwan; and I believe they can and will do so. It would/will be a disaster for China — not good news for anyone. I must say, though, that I don’t see any mobilization happening in Japan, but it is happening in China. That increases the likelihood that China will attack.
China is in very deep economic trouble because of the collapse of their real estate and construction business sectors, which has drastically reduced the net worth of ten of millions, perhaps undreds of millions, of their citizens. It has forced companies to lay off millions of workers. The banks and the Chinese equivalents of private equity firms are in deep trouble because so many real estate and housing companies have defaulted on their loans. Despite this Xi seems to be planning on invading Taiwan in the near future. His reasons appear to be to distract the public from the economic crisis by arousing nationalist fervor, and reducing unemployment with a large increase in military production and a large increase in the numbers of men and wonen serving in the armed forces. Another reason may be that conquering Taiwan would give the CCP control of Taiwan’s numerous successful economic enterprises.
I don’t think Xi’s policies are wise even from his own point of view. I hope that cooler heads wll replace him as leader at their next party congress, either that, or the Chinese people will get tired of all the tsuris that their government has imposed on them over the past two years and rise in rebellion against the CCP.
When you loose a plague on the entire world you may worry about your safety a little bit more than before you killed millions of people. There’s a possibility some people would love to hang your scalp from their lodge pole .
