Gov’t Passes on ‘Terrorists Bill’

Meir Halevi Siegel, JEWISH PRESS

Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister who has released more murderers than any other Israeli leader, and Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein have scuttled a bill intended to prevent lopsided prisoner swaps involving IDF hostages.

At today’s government session, Netanyahu announced that the bill, submitted jointly by by Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) and David Tzur (Hatnua) Law and approved three weeks ago by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, would move for further debate to the security cabinet instead of allowing the government to vote. The measure calls for granting the judicial branch the option of rescinding the president’s right to grant clemency or pardon in cases involving first-degree murder.

But the bill is essentially an admission that the government will have to bypass the prime minister if it wants to prevent lopsided prisoner releases that have made Israel (in)famous, like 1,027-for-1 prisoner swap for Gilad Shalit in 2011. For nearly two years Netanyahu has refused to release findings by the 2012 Shamgar Commission for Prisoner Releases. That Commission, headed by former Chief Justice Meir Shamgar, was founded in July 2008 by then-defense minister Ehud Barak after the bodies of IDF hostages Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were returned in exchange for unrepentant murderer Samir Kuntar, four Hezbollah terrorists and the bodies of almost 200 Lebanese and Palestinians.

There is another reason the bill hardly bodes well for sane diplomatic judgements: It gives Israel’s judiciary, notorious for its left-wing activism and stubborn deaf ear to pleas by the families of terror victims not to release the killers of their loved ones, yet another tool to override the government.

“I cannot understand why the government would want to pass a law like this. It will tie the government’s hands,” Attorney General Weinstein told the Hebrew-language Ynet website.

As of this writing, however, the commission’s recommendations remain classified, at the behest of the prime minister. A spokesman for Mr Netanyahu told Ynet that the security cabinet would “likely” discuss the Terrorists Bill this week, but no mention was made about when the measure might be resubmitted to the government for approval, followed by a vote in the Knesset plenum.

Obama Adm. is carry on an economic against the conservative[tea party] South and West including regulation on agri-business. Disposing of a dead animal has become a morass of paper work.

Maybe so, but I have read two different versions of transfer of power one orderly and the other coup that the regime spun as orderly transfer of power. I don’t know which is true but I am inclined to believe the son took over before his time. Ambition, conflict with dad or for other as yet unknown reasons. Arab potentates do not usually abdicate voluntarily even if they have groomed their sons for the job.

I think if prince Charles could get away with it he would have had him mommy offed.

    debkafile’s counterterrorism sources note.

the same debka article stated that the emir of qatar was deposed in a coup which was rubbish as the father abdicated for his son to assume leadership, whom he had been training for the event for a couple of years. Juan carlos of spain just did the same. sometimes debka gets carried away and forgets which story it told in the past.

Stupid BB plans to counter US acceptance of Palestinian unity by blocking West Bank elections!!!!

that would be nice for Abbas, who would not have to give it to hamas, he can just blame it on Israel. How convenient.

I think he is part of it and that it goes back to pillar of defense. Meshal informed hamas that qatar has demanded the unity gov and they all jumped to oblige. I believe the unity gov will have been already vetted, advised and even structured by the WH. I believe we are being prepared for a later continuation of talks with this “gov” but everyone will be jockeying for points with their constituencies including hamas and BB. Hamas rhetoric for resistance; BB rhetoric against the unity gov, etc.
I believe this is the end result of the ripping of Gaza from Iran and back into the complete control of the GCC. the leash began at pillar of defense with qatar and egypt has now been tightened. I believe hamas has been neutered and left only with barking allowed to save face. Somehow I feel they will all find a way to make this acceptable with BB returning to talks. BB will again claim US pressure. Meanwhile they do nothing and if they stop the money for one month the GCC will pay it. I dont think israel wants their money stopped.
I am very curious to see how syria plays out in terms of jihadis and negotiations as I think this will be a good indicator of where things may go. also the Iranian issues.
there has been nothing but drama. the euros complain about jihadis going to syria but I believe they want them to go there and die. The brits are now revoking returning jihadis citizenship if they are duals. Perhaps these are killing fields to get rid of excess head choppers.

No, he has already done much worse and got away with it.

Islamic bloc appeals for Sunni-Shiite coexistence

OIC head says sectarian violence a challenge in Muslim world, calls for Muslims to pray at al-Aqsa mosque as part of faith

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The newly appointed head of the world’s largest bloc of Islamic countries says he is seeking greater co-existence between Sunni and Shiite Muslims at a time when multiple conflicts have inflamed sectarian hatreds as his organization grapples with the challenge of presenting a unified Muslim voice.

In the Arab world, sectarian tensions between the two main branches of Islam have increased the past decade. In Syria, jihadist fighters from around the world are fighting alongside the country’s Sunni majority against President Bashar Assad’s Alawite, Shiite-backed minority. Meanwhile, Sunni-Shiite bloodletting in Iraq shows no sign of abating with hardliners on either side.

In both conflicts, rival regional heavyweights — Sunni-led Saudi Arabia and Shiite-led Iran — support opposing sides.

  7. UN chief welcomes new Palestinian government

After US and EU approval, Ban Ki-moon says he will lend full support to efforts to unite Palestinians

Hamas, which remains sworn to Israel’s destruction, has agreed to support the government from the outside.

Abbas’s prime minister, Rami Hamdallah, told reporters Tuesday that the government is committed to all agreements previously reached with Israel and would continue the president’s “programs of peace,” aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

    What can go wrong???

  8. @ yamit82:

There was a claim on Fox News that Bergdahl was transmitting troop movement and location to the Taliban while still attach to his unit.
If this is true, that treason etc. As the Mexicans say, “Contra el Pared”.

  9. @ bernard ross:

Stupid BB plans to counter US acceptance of Palestinian unity by blocking West Bank elections!!!! 😉

The US and European decision to continue funding the Palestinians under their new, Hamas-backed government, is a landmark: For the first time, the US and Europe will be bankrolling an organization branded under their own laws as terrorist, as well as its armed militia, the Ezz e-Din al-Qassam, debkafile’s counterterrorism sources note.

Hamas is now free to devote its resources from other quarters to maintaining its own, automous security and militia branches – its tools of terror – numbering 20,000 serving and reserve personnel.

Those resources are provided by Qatar, Gulf tycoons, Iran and Hizballah.
The Palestinian power-sharing deal has therefore maneuvered the Obama administration and European Union into supporting the efforts of Iran and fellow radicals for keeping Hamas alive as a viable operational arm, in keeping with Tehran’s objectives – and in direct conflict with the interests of Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has found no answer to this dangerous development.

BB is really a stupid schmuck!!!

first the grandaughter then the mother in law. I dont believe there is any war between hamas and Israel.

Taliban claim captured U.S. solider has converted to Islam and is teaching its fighters bomb-making skills

A captured American soldier is training Taliban fighters bomb-making and ambush skills, according to one of his captors and Afghan intelligence officials.

Private Bowe Bergdahl disappeared in June 2009 while based in eastern Afghanistan and is thought to be the only U.S. serviceman in captivity.

The 24-year-old has converted to Islam and now has the Muslim name Abdullah, one of his captors told The Sunday Times. A Taliban deputy district commander in Paktika, who called himself Haji Nadeem, told the newspaper that Bergdahl taught him how to dismantle a mobile phone and turn it into a remote control for a roadside bomb.

Nadeem claimed he also received basic ambush training from the U.S. soldier.

‘Most of the skills he taught us we already knew,’ he said. ‘Some of my comrades think he’s pretending to be a Muslim to save himself so they wouldn’t behead him.’ READ MORE
