“I don’t believe that there is a realistic plan that can be implemented that would require anyone — Jew or Arab — to be forced to leave their home,” Friedman told the pro-settler Israel National News website.
Friedman said that Washington is “desperately” waiting for a new Israeli government to be formed. The US will release its so-called Deal of the Century soon thereafter and expects a prompt response from the next Israeli government, he said.
The peace plan will be released in its current form regardless of who the Israeli people chose to be their leader, he stressed.
The ambassador also explained why the White House has been hesitant to release the plan before a new Israeli coalition is established.
“During election periods people aren’t necessarily thinking about the long term,” he said. “They’re thinking about how do we position ourselves to gain votes in the short term. It’s not the right environment to discuss something this important, which has such long-term ramifications.”
Amb friedman, whats the sell by date then the use by date of this plan. Maybe yur gonna wait till the pa has its next annual erection, 12th of never sounds close.
Gantz turned down Bibi’s offer. It was a formula for deadlock plus Gantz is waiting his turn to try and formulate a coalition.
What was interesting however was the UTJ & Shas were willing to sit with all the Blue/White in a Coalition including Lapid.
Would have made a large coalition of 94 MK it would just have been without Liberman, Meretz (Dem Union) and the Joint List (Arabs).
@ Bear Klein:
I appreciate your contributions to Israpundit. Keep it up.
Netanyahu’s new proposal to Benny Gantz
The proposal includes a complete freeze on new religious legislation and a formal agreement for haredi MKs to sit with Lapid.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu presented a proposal for a framework for a coalition agreement on religious and state issues to Blue and White leader Benny Gantz which has also been accepted by the haredi parties.
The framework includes the approval of the recruitment law according to the “Atias framework” – that is, in the form that the of Defense Ministry initiated but the targets will be defined by a government decision and not through legislation.
The framework also includes a provision for an absolute status quo on matters of religion and state – a freeze on new religious legislation. Continue at http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/270248
Also Jpost is reporting Gantz is willing to compromise along the lines of Rivlin’s proposal with with a Vice Premiere to take over if PM is sidelined. Naturally he wants to be PM first. Anyway some headway is going on.
