T. Belman. “By any interpretation, if our right to extend sovereignty immediately is suspended so should our obligation to freeze construction for 4 years and enter negotiations. But no one has mentioned this. In fact, Israel thinks it is still bound by the freeze even though the right to immediately extend sovereignty has been suspended.”
But not to worry, the plan and suspension will be overtaken by events long before the year is up.
By Ted Belman
Speaking with Efi Triger on Galei Tzahal Wednesday morning, Ambassador David Friedman said the sovereignty plan has been suspended for at least one year – possibly longer – but emphasized that it has not been taken off the table.
“The words that we chose was to suspend the declaration of sovereignty,”
“It means temporarily. It could take a year or two or more before we are back to that issue.”
“It just means that for the time being, it’s on pause. For this year, it’s not going to move forward, but later on, we’ll see – it’s not off the table.”
“It was decided now with the Israeli government to use all available means to expand Israel’s diplomatic profile in the region. That means normalization with Gulf states and efforts to move more embassies to Jerusalem.”
I read the plan when it was released and came up with this understanding
Israel gets sovereignty over 30% of the land now and probably over the rest in 4 years.
The Plan gives Israel about 30% of Judea and Samaria, including the Jordan Valley and the blocs, and permits Israel to extend Israel law to these lands. As sovereign, Israel can develop these lands as it pleases.
In exchange, Israel has agreed to freeze or hold the rest in trust for a potential Arab statelet for 4 years only.
The Arabs have this much time to accept such a state providing they do a number of things: demilitarize the future state including Gaza, recognize Israel as nation state of the Jews, stop incitement and payments to terrorist, to name a few.
It is a fabulous deal for Israel because it allocates 30% of the land to Israel sovereignty now. The rest she must hold in trust for 4 years to give that much of a window for the Arabs to meet all the conditions demanded of them. After the 4 years, Israel will be able to do what they want with the rest if the Arabs have failed to meet the conditions.
By any interpretation, if our right to extend sovereignty immediately is suspended so should our obligation to freeze construction for 4 years and enter negotiations. But no one has mentioned this. In fact, Israel thinks it is still bound by the freeze even though the right to immediately extend sovereignty has been suspended.
@ goldi Steiner:
Well, I think a bit differently…I am very definitely totally against “political correctness”, in any way manner or form, although I’m not out to offend anyone, especially “soft-boiled egg=heads”.. BUT.. in this case, “softlee, softlee, catchee monkey”, is a better, safer and more stable way of doing it ;consolidating the first area of extended soverelgnty, and then proceeding according to the “climate” We MUST have the US behind os in support.
@ goldi Steiner:
Hear! Hear!
The next time Israel must apply sovereignty over 100% of the land, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranian sea. No more salami technique. Period. Maspik of playing around.
