Former police chiefs to PM: Fire Ben-Gvir or there will be a 3rd Intifada

T. Belman. Whether or not to maintain calm or move to defeat the terrorists, is a political call and not a police matter. The police heads must follow orders rather than make policy.

5 former Police Commissioners warn PM Netanyahu against National Security Minister’s order to demolish homes during Ramadan.

Five former police commissioners and 33 retired superintendents appealed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to remove National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from his post.

The officials plan to take part in a demonstration in Tel Aviv on Saturday night under the title: ‘Save the police from Ben-Gvir.’

They wrote that they have “identified processes on the part of the minister in charge of the police, in which he acts contrary to the powers granted to him by law.”

“The minister interferes in the decision-making process of operational events and exploits the events and the police for his political purposes,” the commissioners and other former officials claimed. “As those who commanded dozens of incidents and know the sensitivity and responsibility required during these incidents – we were required to take the unusual step of making this appeal to you.”

“We were recently informed that the minister ordered the police officers to continue the work of executing building demolition orders in Jerusalem even during Ramadan. Deviating from the police’s priorities for the sake of the minister’s political needs could have an unnecessary security cost,” they wrote.

The letter was signed by former Police Commissioners Roni Alsheikh, Shlomo Aharonishki, Asaf Hefetz, Rafi Peled, and Moshe Karadi.

According to the officials, “anyone who has experienced commanding the events of the month of Ramadan as commander of the Jerusalem district and as commissioner knows that [continuing demolishing illegally-constructed buildings] is a step that is no less than throwing a lit match into a barrel of gunpowder, which may at best bring upon us the third intifada and at worst ignite an unnecessary fire among the Muslim world outside to the borders of the state, unnecessarily.”

  1. @Chanah

“Lock down their towns and keep them out of Israel during Passover at least”

“…The villages and towns with the Arab reservations will be assigned to two lists, a white list and a black list. Those in the white list will manage their own affairs without interference from the Israeli central authorities. Residents of white-list towns may hold commuter jobs in Israeli cities and industrial parks. The local authorities in the white areas will manage their schools and other local institutions. They will collect their own taxes and may benefit from revenue sharing arrangements with the Israeli fiscal authorities, like other Israeli towns. They might be allowed to operate their own local police forces. Residents in white-listed areas will be fully and freely mobile, able to move freely within and among all white-list areas. They will be allowed to develop local industry and tourist services. Their residents will have access to Israel universities, health facilities, and other services.

Those towns and villages in the black list will enjoy none of the above. Their residents will be denied the opportunity to hold day jobs in Israeli cities and industrial parks. They will have no access to Israeli services. They will have control over nothing. Their residents will be prevented from moving freely outside their reservation, except in cases where they wish to leave the country altogether. They will receive no shared revenues, no fiscal incentives.

Villages and towns will be assigned to the two lists based entirely on one single factor: violence. Areas in which violence occurs, and this includes rock throwing, will be assigned to the black list. Areas in which violence is absent will be assigned to the white list. Towns and villages will be reassigned to the black list from the white list when terrorism, sniping, mortars, rockets, or other forms of violence occur there. Towns and villages in the black list will be assigned to the white list only when the local population cooperates fully with Israel in apprehending and arresting the terrorists and those engaged in violence, and takes other effective actions to end the violence. Otherwise they will remain on the black list indefinitely. Entry into black list areas will be denied to foreigners, journalists, and especially to the “International Solidarity” anarchists and their ilk. Any such anarchist infiltrating the areas of the black list will be denied permission to leave them and will remain there indefinitely, or else will be imprisoned by Israel…”

  2. They are asking for more appeasement. The appeasement policy is a big failure and only serves to strengthen the terrorists. We can’t make policy based on the fear that the terrorists will terrorize. They will do that already. Lock down their towns and keep them out of Israel during Passover at least. We might have to fight another war with them but this time, we need to actually win it and not stand down until they wave the white flag. I can’t be the only Israeli that is sick and tired of living like this. We need to finish this war. I had thought that Tel Aviv might be the only safe place to go in Israel, and then we hear of another shooting. There is a law against Arabs having guns. The police used to go through Arab towns collecting illegal weapons. They need to double down on this, not stop and let the Arabs have freedom to murder more of us.

  3. Are these excommanders not the same people who trumped up charges against Netanyahu which ” can be dropped” if only he will finally retire and desist from trying to clip the wings of the Supreme Court?
    SHAME ON THEM!

  4. change “or” to “and” rather in the title. Key words here are, “former” and “retired” which means discredited. Their policies failed and are trying to sabotage reform. There might be an intifada anyway. But if there is, it needs to be properly used as an opportunity to identify disloyal, terror suppirting Arabs and promptly get rid of them through deportation or death.
