EU ‘ready to work’ with US on peace plan, as long as it aims at two states

IF THE EU INSISTS ON THE OLD PARAMETERS, THERE’S NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT

In Washington, Mogherini tells Pompeo the union views survival of Iran nuclear deal as ‘key to preserving stability and security in the region’

The European Union on Wednesday signaled willingness to cooperate with the US administration’s effort to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, as long as it includes a clear commitment to the two-state solution and other internationally endorsed parameters.

Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign policy czar, during a meeting in Washington Tuesday with Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, “underlined the fundamental interest of the European Union for lasting and sustainable peace and stability in the region,” according to a readout of the meeting provided by Brussels.

“In this context, the EU is ready to work with the US administration on the basis of its longstanding position, including the commitment to a negotiated two-state solution and agreed international parameters.”

The EU’s position calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, with Jerusalem a capital of both Israel and Palestine.

The union will send a representative to next week’s economic peace conference in Bahrain, Mogherini said earlier this week, though it remains unclear at what level the EU will participate in the event, which is boycotted by the Palestinians.

Israeli officials were not invited because US officials did not, they said, want to politicize the event. However, a small number of Israeli businessmen and others are expected to be present at the so-called Peace to Prosperity workshop in Manama.

“We are considering the level of attendance that might be most likely a technical level. We are always interested in getting more insights on possible steps or plans that can be put forward,” Mogherini said Monday at a meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council in Luxembourg.

“But I can tell you this casts no shadow whatsoever on the strong and clear European Union commitment shared by all member states on the need to have a political solution for the creation of a Palestinian state. As I said, living side by side with the Israeli state, with a clear status for Jerusalem, and with respect to the international parameters that are clearly known.”

The EU sending a representative at the “technical level” to the Bahrain workshop “does not infringe on any of these very clear commitments,” Mogherini stressed. Brussels “is and remains a strong supporter of the internationally agreed parameters for the solution of the Middle East peace process, no doubt on that,” she said.

In DC on Tuesday, Mogherini also met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, discussing with him various international and regional developments, including the recent attacks on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, the Western Balkans, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Libya, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

In what the EU described as a “positive and constructive conversation,” Mogherini stressed the union’s abiding commitment to the Iran nuclear deal “as key to preserving stability and security in the region and as an essential component of the global non-proliferation architecture.”

Last year, the US unilaterally quit the 2015 landmark pact between six powers and Iran, leading the Islamic Republic to vow to increase uranium enrichment by next week.

  1. @ Bear Klein:

Bear…..I feel exactly the same way that you do……but in my family home,…… and believe me we argued ALL the time, but loved one another dearly,{ as I still love all the departed members of my family….. bringing tears to my eyes just this minute even writing about this.} we never used ny but correct language with plenty of “Yiddishisms” included.

None of us ever used coarse language….Its just how my parents and family conducted ourselves. So …even at school in the midst of the fiercest battles and disputes, it never occurred to me to use any but the normal descriptive words.

So …as I say, I feel just as you do, (I could see him burnt at the stake without a blink-as I could all jihadi Arabs…we’ve suffered too long and too much to have “nice” feelings) but I think that Americans always had a free and easy way with language, which we on the other side of the ocean looked askance at. It does’nt mean I’m a prig…

No harm. Whatever you say about it, you’re saying it for me too.

  2. @ Edgar G.:I do use language that is coarse when it best expresses what I feel. Perhaps if I would have gotten a PHD I would have changed but I stopped my formal education at an MBA.

  3. @ Bear Klein:

That is expressed-I hope-only at home, and really is not relevant. I was expressing MY feelings…in cogent English, into which 4 letter scatology never appears.

But I understand exactly what you wish to convey, Bear.

They are so busy sticking their compromised, filthy noses into Israels personal affairs that they have no comprehension of the utter doom that awaits them, now ongoing.

They act as if they’re still medieval tyrants, and still “own” the Jews in their baronies or lordships or etc.

Reminiscent -in a way- of Gogol’s Dead Souls”…

  4. @ David melech:
EU concentrates Jews in Ghettos and impoverishes them, takes away their property. EU kicks Jews out. Jews have no choice but to move back to historic homeland – Israel. EU creates mess all over the Mid East. EU does nothing to clean up mess. EU says it won’t do anything to clean up its mess unless someone else cleans it up? Thanks for nothing. Don’t do us any more favors. Go home. Clean up your messes at home and stay there.

  5. @ Bear Klein:

Your mention of ” constructive ” reminds me of the word “construction”..(also Bulldozer)…the ramshackle Arab infiltrator camps proliferating in Area C….. the more solid parts prominently labelled with the EU logo…..Totally illegal according to their “vaunted”…. “international law.” and committed by a supposedly “legal” entity speaking for ALL it’s members, of whom, there are some, in the East, who are NOT on board over this.

As David Melech very properly pointed out…..they are giving away (to toxic, permanent terrorists) that which is not theirs to give, which, legally–and by irrevocable International Law– belongs to the Jewish People. . The EU is the “Poisonous Tree”..and they are welcoming their “Poisonous Fruit”…..

    Chutzph unprlelled.

  6. EU should fix its’ own house before it collapses because f multiple Brexit’s. It has no understanding or constructive ability in the Pal-Arab Israel conflict that warrants its interference.

  7. The E.U collectively and/Mogherini personally are clever by half at best.
They are not offering to work with the Trump peace plan.In effect they fully intend to sabotage it.In the process they are treating Trump as an idiot who will accept their offer which essentially amounts to this: You accept our (moronic and failed) fundamental peace plan and we will work with you on some details of yours.

  8. The Eurotrash have a lot of chutzpah after all the atrocities they committed against the Jewish people for over a thousand years. They want to be rid of the Jewish people but now they want the Arabs to do their dirty work for them.

  9. My my, my head is in the sand, which way do I turn? Every way has a story. 47-48 the sodomites turned down the offer of a state. 2 Israeli (both fools) p m’s offered the sodomites more than they asked nay, neit , nada,
Would the sodomites sodom me? We e u”s have nothing to offer, everything we offered is not ours to begin with.
