Either way, Lapid is not telling the truth.

By Ted Belman

I was beginning tp think highly of Lapid.  No more.

Excerpts of his interview with TIME were released Thursday.  He is quoted as saying:

“you make peace with foes, not with friends.”

“Israelis convinced themselves that there is no use in talking to the Palestinians because they’re not to be trusted. I think they’re wrong. I think the Palestinians are not to be trusted and this is exactly why we should talk to them,”

“[the failure to resume negotiations for a two-state solution as] “irresponsible,” and “shortsighted,” [stating that] “my father didn’t come here from the ghetto in order to live in a country that is half Arab, half Jewish. He came here to live in a Jewish state.”

“Right now we have with the Palestinians a national dispute. But the point of no return is the moment this has become a religious dispute. Jews versus Muslims. Not yet. With Hamas it’s a religious dispute. But not yet with Fatah. With the Palestinian Authority we have a national dispute. And we should keep it this way, because a national dispute we can solve.  When it gets into my God is better than yours, then it becomes an everlasting conflict.”

He is so appallingly ignorant of reality that it is obvious to all.

You don’t make peace with an enemy set to destroy you.
As most observers will tell you, it has always been a religious dispute.
Fatah has always led a propaganda war against Israel calling for its destruction.
Fatah has killed more Israelis by far than Hamas has.

Lapid also said:

“Unbelievably enough I do believe Netanyahu believes the same, but he does not have the coalition, and right now not even the party to support him. So maybe in a few weeks one of my jobs will be to make sure he has enough fingers to vote about this, from within the coalition or from opposition, same thing.”

Lapid stands for an undivided Jerusalem and building for internal growth of our settlements. Surely he know that no agreement with the PA let alone Hamas so long as he means embraces these positions.

Either he is lying to us re his beliefs or he is lying to us about the prospects of peace.

  1. There is a mismatch between what he wrote in his book and the interview. He should be asked to elaborate, since in the book he writes about Palestinians and does not differentiate between Hamas and Fatah.

    In the interview:
Lapid: There is one thing that is crucial. Right now we have with the Palestinians a national dispute. But the point of no return is the moment this has become a religious dispute. Jews versus Muslims. Not yet. With Hamas it’s a religious dispute. But not yet with Fatah. With the Palestinian authority we have a national dispute. And we should keep it this way, because a national dispute we can solve. When it gets into my God is better than yours, then it becomes an everlasting conflict.

Yair Lapid wrote a book titled Memories After My Death, written as if he were his father. Although the excerpt below may have been his father’s opinion alone, on page 353, he wrote:

Political correctness prevents us from discussing that our biggest problem is Islam. Were we simply talking about the national aspirations of the Palestinian people , we would have long ago reached a peace accord. God and Allah know that we offered the more than they once even dared to dream could be theirs. But for every secular Palestinian interested in finding a solution, two zealots who want us dead are born. Radical Islam has waged a war of destruction against everything that the Western word represents : freedom democracy , equality, science, technology, feminism, progress.

Of the fifty-seven Islamic nations in the world today, not one is a democracy. They are all mired in dictatorships – some more enlightened, some less – rife with corruption and poverty and hatred, and, primarily envy. Twice before, Islam has tried to conquer Europe, once when it conquered Spain and once when it reached the gates of Vienna, and each time it failed.

  2. Bill Narvey Said:

Lapid is telling his truth as he knows it to be.

    How do you know that?

There is always hope that Lapid is more than just a pretty face and a glib tongue, that he has a good measure of as yet, unused intellect and the ability to be a quick study to know and understand what he must in order to fulfill his obligations to Israel and all Israelis.

Again you attribute to him attributes not in evidence but hope is not enough to entrust any of your unfounded assumptions to.

I still think he is a leftist shill posing as a moderate, [what ever that means?].

  3. @ Shy Guy:

Zeev Galili was one of my all time favorites.

Good article and speaks to our media generated post modern age the confusion between the virtual and the real as per his example of ” The Purple Rose of Cairo” Who is the real Lapid? The only positive is that Unlike Shelley he has not yet presented himself as a contender for PM of Israel.

Reagan movie of playing President of the USA for 8 years was a good observation, but he did give Reagan credit for at least coming to the presidency after 8 years as Governor of Americas Largest most populous state. Lapid? Nada, no executive experience at all and he is not too bright not to mention under educated. He is a media generated creation, a projected image. That’s what we know for sure.

I still want to know who are the deep pockets backing him. Once that is made known it will answer many of my unanswered questions.

  4. Lapid is telling his truth as he knows it to be. He speaks from a lower degree of knowledge and insight that as a media personality, was all he needed and it served him well.

At some point he is going to come down from his high. When that happens, hopefully he will come to see that what he needs to know and understand in his new role in order to fulfill his obligations to Israel and all Israelis taken on, is so much more than he needed to know and understand as a media personality.

There is always hope that Lapid is more than just a pretty face and a glib tongue, that he has a good measure of as yet, unused intellect and the ability to be a quick study to know and understand what he must in order to fulfil his obligations to Israel and all Israelis.

We should know soon enough whether that hope was false or well placed.

  5. Andy Lewis Said:

Or he could be lying to he world about the prospects for peace with the Arabs.

No! No! Lapid really is a dimwit. I wish people knew Hebrew to read the articles I linked to above. He’s a Israeli TV talkshow host who knows how to gel his hair just right. Obama had more political credentials before becoming president than Lapid has on entering the Knesset.

  6. Either he is lying to us re his beliefs or he is lying to us about the prospects of peace.

Or he could be lying to he world about the prospects for peace with the Arabs.

  7. He can be both a Bozo and a liar at the same time. Heck, that’s almost the defintion of a politician.

    🙂

Here’s a recent article about Lapid (in Hebrew) by veteran Israeli journalist Ze’ev Galilee. At the end of the article, there are also links to prior articles of Galilee regarding Lapid, such as this doozie. Dodos are alive and well.
