Don’t trust the utterances of the US State Department

By Ted Belman

Arutz Sheva published an article by Nitsan Keidar in which he commented on the change of tone of the State Department.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price spoke to reporters on Monday, with his answers to reporters’ questions clarifying the change between the positions of the Trump administration and those of President Joe Biden.

Biden’s State Department is driven by the desire to not support anything that Trump did domestically or internationally.

Price noted that “the United States opposes any action taken by Israel which may make it difficult to reach a two-state solution.”

Why do they worship at the alter of the two-state solution.  It cannot happen and it won’t happen.  The Arabs are ready to move on.  Why isn’t the state Department?  Why are they not open to alternate solutions.  If the Gulf states are ready to do without a Palestinian state, why isn’t the State Department?

On the Iranian issue over which Israel has been very concerned lately, Price said, “We believe Diplomacy is the most effective means to prevent Iran from ever obtaining nuclear weapons.”

Obama enabled Iran to support terrorism and agreed to the JCPOA which enabled Iran to move toward a nuclear bomb.  This deal if reenacted ends restrictions in 3 years at which time Iran will be within months able to produce such a bomb.  I don’t believe for a moment that the US policy has changed.  It is not committed to preventing Iran “from ever obtaining nuclear weapons”.  Even if they are now committed to it, diplomacy is not the way. Sanctions and containment, a la Trump, are.

Regarding the Abraham Accords, Price was asked about the possibility of promoting ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel. The question came in the background of the US criticism of Saudi Arabia over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and the US intelligence report blaming the Saudi Crown Prince for the murder.

“We seek to accomplish a great deal with the Saudis, to end the war in Yemen and ease Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, to use our leadership to forge ties across the region’s most bitter divides, whether that’s finding a way back from the brink of war with Iran into a meaningful regional dialogue, or forging a historic peace with Israel,” he said.

To me this is all bullshit. Yes they placed sanctions on two Houti leaders but not until they remove the Houtis from the terror list.  Reagan and Trump believed in peace through strength and not through diplomacy. Diplomacy did not stop Iran from getting the bomb and did not solve the Palestinian problem after 100 years. By calling for the old two-state solution, they are prolonging the conflict not solving it.

Price added, however, that this would only be possible “in a partnership with Saudi Arabia that respects America’s values.”

What “American values? Rigging elections, censoring dissent, promoting riots for political gain even if people are killed in them, bribery, possibly the murder of political opponents and the framing of Pres Trump with trumped up charges and fake evidence.  America, or at least this administration have lost the right to preach to anyone.

To complicate matters further, this administration is once again embracing the Muslim Brotherhood, notwithstanding that Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt have criminalized them.

They will replace all the good Trump has done with all the damage they can do.
