@EvRe1: you are quite right. At first you comment seemed to be amiss but you managed to fix it.. good work!
After watching this video I am thinking that Bibi probably knows exactly who the traitors are in the security services and certainly in the justice system. While the war is ongoing, the war is job one.
Once the war is won, I hope that there will be an opportunity to consider the leakers, the traitors, and the specific charges that can be brought against specific individuals. I hope that the people of Israel will remember the efforts made to hamstring and undermine Israeli national security, and that they will demand justice be done.
If these people are never brought to justice, they will only increase in number and power. That is what we have seen in the US. Their efforts need to be crushed, just as much as Hamas needs to be crushed, Hezbollah needs to be crushed, and Iran needs to be crushed.
It is crucial that Israel have a society in which differences of opinion are celebrated, but actions taken that harm the people of Israel are treated as completely unacceptable. Israel cannot survive in this neighborhood if a 3rd column works secretly to destroy the legitimately elected government.
This is the problem Fransisco Gil-White covers when he discusses the idea that as long as there is a part of government that is allowed to operate in secret, they will eventually abuse their power and take over the entire government, or construct a parallel government in which they secretly control the elected government.
So if democracies are going to insist on having Shin Bet or Mossad, or CIA or NSA, the countries must figure out how to keep civilian control and oversight of these agencies. In the US the people ARE the sovereign. Having 17 different secret agencies unaccountable to the people has now been shown to be such a grave error, the US may never be able to overcome it.
For Israel’s sake, the people and the elected officials must have the ability to check the power and decision making of these agencies. These agencies should work at the pleasure of the elected leaders not the other way around as it has evolved.
I don’t know HOW it will be accomplished, I just know that tyranny is one short step from giving these agencies the power to make their own decisions in secret.
