Clinton: I’ll defend Israel but push for ‘two-state solution’

T. Belman. Plus ca change, plus la meme chose.  To pledge to both support Israel and create a Palestinian state is a contradiction in terms. Cruz is right, alleged neutrality will achieve nothing. Why do the Palestinians deserve a state of their own. What have they done to deserve it?

Former Secretary of State says she’ll do everything she can to support Israel but the Palestinians “deserve a state of their own”.

clinton blueFormer Secretary of State and current Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton believes both Republican candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz “missed the mark” with their approach to the Israel-Palestinian Arab conflict.

Speaking Sunday to CNN, Clinton vowed to support Israel but also said she would insist on the “two-state solution”, that is the formation of a Palestinian state, in order to bring an end to the conflict.

In the interview, Clinton was asked about Trump’s and Cruz’s comments last week. While Trump indicated he would be “sort of a neutral guy” on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Cruz said, “I have no intention of being neutral” and stressed he would be standing by Israel.

“I think both of them missed the mark,” she replied, stressing that “Israel is our partner, our ally. We have longstanding and important ties with Israelis going back to the formation of the state of Israel.”

“I will defend and do everything I can to support Israel, particularly as the neighborhood around it seems to become more dangerous and difficult,” declared Clinton, but also added, “I also believe the Palestinians deserve to have a state of their own. That’s why I support a two-state solution. That’s what I have worked on. That’s what I tried to move forward when I was secretary, and holding three very intense conversations between the prime minister of Israel and the president of the Palestinian Authority.”

“Those are not mutually exclusive,” she continued. “I happen to think that moving toward a two-state solution, trying to provide more support for the aspirations of the Palestinian people is in the long-term best interests of Israel, as well as the region, and, of course, the people themselves.”

Clinton has in the past said that the “two state solution” is the only resolution for the decades old conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Her comments come even as senior officials in the Obama administration have admitted that reaching the two-state solution at the present time is unlikely. German Chancellor Angela Merkel last week made similar comments.

Despite Clinton’s pro-Israel comments in the interview, e-mails that have been released as part of the investigation into her use of a private address during her time as Secretary of State have revealed the opposite.

In one e-mail she referred to Israelis as “always cocky”; in another e-mail, dated 2011, she mulled a plan by a senior aide to stir up Palestinian unrest in order to pressure Israel to restart peace talks with the PA.

Hillary is simply LYING. Of course she can not support Trump’s position, because Trump is actually pro Israel and she is not, big time. Lying is no problem for this “broad-minded” scaly wag.
Trump may go thru the motions of convening negotiations, but when Abbas starts up, Trump will shut it all down and chart a new and very different course, with no delay whatsoever.

Exactly – Hilary is a liar. Trump really intends to make America great again and that will never be by siding with America’s enemies or Israel’s enemies.

  2. @ babushka:”I am with Israel”. Sure Babu, anything you say. This is what they all say, including Obama, does not mean anything. Haaretz is “with Israel” too, so are The Mk’s who are going through a process in which they are suspended for acts they define as being “with Israel”. Some call it treason. Ambassador Shapiro has stated that he is “with Israel”. I would beg to differ with the troll. So, with all due respect…the shell game has to end, that takes a leader with courage not beholden to special interests, someone exactly like Trump, who has a steep learning curve, granted. Trump will figure out to finally complete the first criteria for negotiating “peace”, a working definition of “peace” must be agreed upon, or else why continue. It was never done, ludicrous and mildly funny, well like yourself.
Cruz needs to start winning, I do not see this happening. Absent that, the choice is obvious or will be obvious to most of us over time.

  3. @ babushka:
No. Hilary is not Trump. Trump will not maintain the charade, the “peace process” which can never bring peace. Trump does not work that way. Hilary will continue OBAMA’S approach only worse. Trump is smart with his neutrality pose. We are sick of hearing the same panderings from the likes of Cruz about moving the embassy.
Israel is not prepared to break off from it’s dependency on the U.S. Show me proof of this notion being seriously considered in Israel. There is none. At present it is a pipe dream.
    I am with The Donald.

  4. Hillary versus Trump is lose-lose for Israel. It is essential that Israel accelerate its independence from the United States.

  5. Hillary is using patronizing double speak about Israel. I know what is best for Israel it is a Palestinian State. Never mind that state would be a threat to Israel’s existence.

Hillary like Obama believes she has a right to tell Jews were its borders should be and where than can live.

If she becomes President she would be very dangerous for Israel. She wants to divide Jerusalem and the holy places. She wants to put her husbands plan into action. She is literally stuck in the 90s.

She cleverly used Trumps words of “neutrality” against him.

Hilary Clinton would be a disaster for Israel. She would also be a disaster for the USA.

  6. @ Salomon Benzimra:A need to convince every decision maker? Please do not waste any more valuable time, energy and most importantly, lives. “balestine’ was created as the obstacle to peace, more than once in history.
They know the self evident truth Sal, They KNOW it. When Clinton declares she will defend and do everything she can to support Israel, Hillary is simply LYING.
Clinton realizes this so she could never agree with Trump, even when Trump makes “neutral”, his stated position. Abbas will get an ultimatum from Trump, one in which Abbas can decide between living with Israel in defensible borders as defined by the likes of Dore Gold or face prison for genocide. Abbas will choose prison or martyrdom.

  7. Given how the Palestinians define themselves (in their 3 Charters, their official statements, their education curriculum and their daily actions), the bottom line is that one cannot be pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian at the same time.

The challenge is to convince every decision maker of this self-evident truth.
