When The Entire Country Becomes Your Classroom

Living in Israel was never on the radar for Jennifer or Max Schrutt. In fact neither of them visited the country until they were adults. Jennifer was raised in a Reconstructionist Jewish home on the East Coast, while Max grew up in a Conservative family in Denver, Colorado. Both Jen and Max attended Hebrew school, but had a completely negative experience. Despite their tenuous connection to Judaism, and the enormous expense of Jewish tuition, the couple not only decided to send their children to Jewish schools in Denver, but in 2015 made Aliyah to Rehovot, and their three children are educated in (Mamlachti Dati) Modern Orthodox schools. I spoke with Jen and found out why.

  3. Well i was a normal man living a normal life but inside that life i did have a secret that secret was about my way of thinking and my own point of view that point of view was supporting Israel of course i did not born with the support of Israel in my blood but in this life you will go in situation where you need help and the help i got was from a jewish man in that moment everything got up side down

and i started to question everything about what going on in the middle east and Israel, so why they make Israel evil and start to look and search for the truth and step by step i started to know that what i see on tv and everything i told about was a lie and with the time i choose my side that is to support israel and to me it was and still the right thing to do but of course all this was secret because i am in a muslim country and my support was online to the day they find out about me and the hate campaign started against me and my family, i got kick from my job and the hunt started with curses, insults, death threats where i find my self hated from everybody ,arrested more then once for mothing, mistreated, beating up by peoples and there is a day that i find myself so hungry that i need to eat old bread so old the point i use water to make easy to eat,

so i decided to ask help from anywhere but none want to help zionist like they say and i get advice from my social media to seek help from embassies but all i got is curses and insults from the worker there and arrested beatin by the tunisian police and they even took my passport aways so before i get killed i want to share my story and i want my voice to be heard

even now with The state of Israel defending itself against those Terrorist the Tunisian Here in Kasserine keep attacking our home with rock and insults, curses and you call the police they do nothing and they say you have you self to blame and hang up knowing that we like 30 to 40 kilometre away from where the terrorists are in the mountains of echanbi and we cant go out ,were in serious danger,

i hope you hear our voice and let the world know about us , we don’t expect any help from anybody but at least let our voice be heard and please don’t give up on us like the ppls of amnesty and human right and red cross ppls here even the embassies all we got is beating, curses and insults by the worker and arrested by the Tunisian police just to make us feel wrong but we never wrong Israel is The holy land and we always support and stand with Israel even if we die

If you need a profile in courage and taking risks, look no further than Mohamed Faleh Boughdiri from Kasserine Province inTunisia. For several years, I have consistently shown my support for Israel despite being on the receiving end of personal attacks; I have received significant threats from the Tunisian media, the government, terroristorganizations, and other individuals in society. “People insult me withall kinds of names, curses and beating and they arrested me more than once fornothing just to make you live in fear and on the run all the time and watchover your shoulder all the time because you don’t know when or where you’regoing to be attacked. They call me traitor for supporting the the holy land and now according to the new president i am not just traitor but i am infidel this mean it’s ok to kill me,

It’s being a long time since i have a good night sleepwithout fear and have a job like a normal human and feel that i am human againand every time Israel defend its self against those terrorists Salafist groupattacked our house with rocks and the police do nothing to stop them. With all this going on a lot of my friend advice me toleave to where i can express myself and my belief without fear well i tried the so called human right organizations none answer me, oh well there is one didanswer me the Tunisian human right organization the answer was word for word wehave nothing to do with Zionist like you and Israel don’t exist” I tried few embassies but i got beating by theTunisian worker there and got arrested by the police and took away my passporti tried few embassies but i got beating by the Tunisian worker there and gotarrested by the police and took away my passport and it’s been a year and halftrying to have my passport back well to be truthful i just want to leaveanywhere safe but here i had enough curses, insults, bullying, beating and arrestingby the Tunisian Police just to make you life living hell and because i feellike i am going to get killed because i feel like i am going to get killed if istay anymore than this, it’s been few years of running from Muslims.

I get how Israel feels, Muslims are so evil and theywill do anything to make you life living hell if you’re different and they arethe reincarnation of evil and lie but first i need to be safe so i can exposethem to the world

  5. @ Adam Dalgliesh:

I guess the only positive thing about it that I can think of is that I’ll make the liberal diaspora Jews happy. There are times when I wish this psalm would actually be effective: “Should I forget thee, O Jerusalem, may my right hand wither and my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth.”

  6. Is it true that Gantz intends to form a coalition government with the Arab parties? If so, since I’m a movie buff I come up with allegorical scenes. In this case, does anyone remember the scene in Schindler’s List when the Jews were put on the train to a concentration camp, and a little girl beside the track was shouting: “Goodbye Jews, goodbye Jews…”? To me, a government including the Arabs has me shouting “Goodbye Israel, goodbye Israel…”

  7. @ Ted,
One of your focuses is “Advocating for a compromise by the religious parties to enable Yisrael Beiteinu to join a right wing government.”
I was thinking that if the ultra-Orthodox parties remain adamant and refuse to compromise, the event of a left wing government just might make their life miserable.

  8. Fake News Omar backs beany sanders for pres. son of holocaust survivers? Sanders ol man arrived in u s a 1921, sanders ol mum was born in new york.

  9. Is Israel prepped for the tidelwave that will follow if the dems win 2020 2024. A leftist sodomite loving gov iin power will open the doors for the wave, even lead the way with Barak singing in Arabic ‘love songs.’
The right as usual will wait until a month of Sunday’s then scratch the itch and say ‘think we ave a prob’.

  10. Barak and Sanders both cut from the same cloth, ready to lead fools to a downhill bog.
Barak seems to forgot he offered the sodomites all and they spat in his face.
Sanders does not seem to understand that of the 3.5 bill $ most is spent giving jobs in the u s. Then to there’s $ for signing a treaty with the Africans occupying egypt. Take or reduce that then that treaty gets flushed along with Sanders down the great river.
These two village idiots spoke today at the anti ISRAEL j street hate fest.

  11. The s. A. Flousy chairing the u n security council meeting today was totally out of order in her comments against Israel and her support for the sodomite terrorists.
She and her country are a perfect example of why the sodomites continue to suggest they have a right to Jewish/Israeli land. Normally the chair is a nuteral position but she changed that situation for ongoing meetings.

  12. Trump is wrong saying the number 1 terror leader is dead. The real number 1 is living in Israel named abb’arse. El or al bhagdadi got his where all being chased by dogs and killing kids as he did the muzzies proud by blowing himself up. Does the puffed up abb’arse wear a bomb vest?

  13. @ Buzz of the Orient:
I agree.. But that may be OK with Bibi because the longer he stays in office the better his chances may become. Some or all of the indictments may be dropped or lessened before the end of this year.

If so it will impact the election results third time around.

  14. @ Ted Belman:

What do you think are his chances of success, Ted? I don’t see a third election creating a definitive majority government, and on and on and on……

  15. You asked for it you got it. Left wing + sodomite parties to begin the sell out. Wonder how trumps plan will be presented as it was written with the right in mind. Reckon the leftist with be cozying to ramallalah in days not weeks nor months.

  16. @ Adam Dalgliesh:

All you have to do is add in an extra prayer for forgiveness for not fasting…..NEXT Yom Kipur…Easy…… Judaism is wonderful, that it stretches, according to the situation…as long as the PRINCIPLE of the Din is observed, no matter in how roundabout a way. This is how Judaism survived although the horrendous vicissitudes until this day.

To make “certain sure” next year, the best thing would be to get a drop-off to the shool the night before, don’t forget a backpack and a pup tent. AND NO FOOD..You can start Yom Kipur early by not bringing a blow-up mattress…….If you happen to get shot by a guard, don’t worry, I’LL tell them you were on the level…… Easy….!!

(Maybe I’m celebrating Purim a bit too early…..!!)

  17. @ Edgar G.: Many thanks for your kind words, Edgar, which in fact do make me feel less guilty than I did. Again, I hope you and your family had an easy and comfortable Yom Kippur.

I intended to fast on Yom Kippur, but my fast lasted all of 3 hours! I am just too addicted to food. At least, that’s the best I can come up with as an excuse. I had to drive 25 miles to the nearest Chabad services (one shouldn’t really have to do that on Yom Kippur). My rabbi’s sermon seemed to drone on and on after Kol Nidre I was surprised when I looked at my watch after the service and realized the whole service, even the Rabbis sermon, had lasted less than two hours. But then I got hopelessly lost on my drive home, and a drive that should have taken about 40 minutes ended up taking about an hour and forty minutes. Finally, when I arrived back at my home town, I found that construction workers were using the late evening to work on constructing a new bridge accross our little river. Another 20 minute delay behind a long line of cars. When I finally got back to my apartment I was feeling so stressed and angry at our county road department (which has totally paralysed our main street, and hence the whole town, for the past six months, doing dozens of separate construction projects simultaneously. There must be corruption involved–totally unnecessary) that I binged uncontrollably to settle my nerves and calm down. At least that’s my excuse. My efforts to become a frum Jew and do teshuva are a total failure.

Once again, happy 5780 to you and all of my Israpundit brothers and sisters.

  18. @ Adam Dalgliesh:

“Well… you insulted me very badly when you said that I………..and then, later, you said that I ……….. .but I forgive you………-just send me money.

WELL OVER THE FAST…A WISH FOR ALL MEMBERS from EDGAR G.

Seriously Adam, the insults you my have committed were in fact negligible and all in the heat of deep argument, which you carried out in admirable linguistic fashion, and with sincerity.. So don’t be concerned. I’m sure you were also insulted the same way. We are all here, a kind of brotherhood..and in families, members tend to chaff away at one another. , .

  19. I have made a New Year’s resolution (stopping short of a vow) to “take the high road” in the future in any comments that I post on this site or others, and to avoid getting personal over political disagreements.

  20. It is traditional just before Yom Kippur to ask forgiveness of those people whom one may have wronged over the past year. I am now asking the forgiveness of all those commenters on the Israpundit site whom I insulted in the heat of political argument over the past year. Political disagreements are no excuse for getting personal and insulting people, or making accusations without proof. I hope those contributors whom I have insulted over the past year will forgive me. I just got caught up in the argument.

I also forgive all those Israpundit commentaters who have insulted and reviled me under similar circumstances.

  21. SORRY YAMIT- I didn’t get back to your response in time, and the subject has disappeared from the list above. Your contention about the sea having been 50 ft. higher is a real mind-bender. Because, it isn’t the result of some ancient earth convulsion. It must have been in comparatively recent recorded history. (Greek-Syrian, and Roman). But…there’s a problem To me anyway. There is nothing in history, or th Mishna about seas receding, to that or indeed any extent. Do we know if the top of the tell constitutes buildings of the port, or the sea-level docks. The fact that there are identified docks so far inland it puzzling enough. But the sea level to have made it so, must have covered much of the whole littoral of Israel, the Delta, Sinai, Libya, and further on to the western Med pre-Arab countries

Do you have any links to this historical/geological matter. You always manage to produce items out of “nowhere” which turn out to be fascinating. You say the archaeologists have been or are there. Are their results published. Were they there when you were?? Has the name of that port been identified…. When I emigrated to Israel, I fully intended to devote my time to archaeological pursuits, but, with marriage, children, other problems and etc. I never did..

  22. The terror leader lectures a 70% empty u n g a. One thing he did well was out wave
Lenny Bernstein conducting the n y philomonic . Abbarse looks 2 mins away from heart failure.

  23. Just been listening to first 40 mins 1hour to go of item 7 u n bash Israel. Seems all countries have the same 1 speech writer.
They all support palestine and the occupied territories? 2 countries?
Many want the companies listed doing business in J -S.
    Q) does Israel buy direct from JCB? or from a dealer.
If listed how many of these companies would stop doing business with 3rd world countries
These countries seem determined to keep item 7 on the schedule, keeps the heat off them. Imagine chile who threw live persons into the ocean from airplanes being an example setter. south africa slaughter of white farmers, rhodesia going from a self sustaining country to a black hole in the ground.

  24. @ Adam Dalgliesh:

Unfortunately Adam, I have no advice to give about ANYTHING to do with computers. I am the merest tyro… But can agree with those who say that, for example, they made sure that their Captcha entry was correct but were still sent back to redo it. This happens to me sometimes, several times even twice on the same Captcha although not the same “sum”.., , making me feel I was going blind…

  25. Ted and Edgar,Here is that trading report in case you missed it on the “Religion-State Divide” screen.Ted, my most recent post, about 4pm EST commenting on the Parliament’s Brexit legislation, was trahed under very suspicious circumstances.
First I got the “go back” screen, which said that I had made errors and instructed me to go back to the “Brexit” screen. But when I tried to do that, someone sent me to the Jerusalem Post website, which I had been reading earlier in the afternoon. I tried repeatedly to go back to the Israpundit Brexit screen, but my computer was repeatedly denied entry to it. Then I tried to go to the Israpundit main screen, but my computer was denied entry to that screen, too. I was completely unable to go back to the Israpundit screen, as the internet sinister force kept sending me to the Jerusalem Post or Google every time.

I finally restarted my computer and got back to Israpundit. When I went to the Brexit article, there was no sign of this comment. I had taken the precaution of copying my post earlier because I knew that my posts to Israpundit often get trashed. But when I attempted to paste my comment onto the available comment space, my copied comment would not print. I had no way of getting onto the screen, even as a paste.

I don’t know who is doing this to me. But it is not the first time that this bizarre sequence of events has happened to me.

It clearly looks malicious. I don’t know who has it in for me-possibly a Chinese hacker, because in an earlier post about two weeks ago I called for an American boycott of Chinese products. But whoever is doing this to me, I want it to stop.

  26. Ted and Edgar, please see my comment about my latest trashing under the article

Analysis Israel’s Religion-state Divide Blows Up as Election Campaign Gets Mean

. It is an extremely suspicious trashing event which seems like it was malicious. I explain in detail on the other screen.

Edgar, I know you have encountered similar problems from time to time. Do you have any advice for as to how to stop this?

  27. @ Adam Dalgliesh:
    Hi, Adam and Buzz

It seems obvious to me, that Ted’s site is being censored — not by Ted, but by the supposedly (but not) “neutral” algorithm. All algorithms are ultimately written by people, who provide it with axioms/assumptions that reflect their own mindset. The underlying agenda, is that users will become weary of bucking the system, and spew out the mindless babble of George Orwell’s “proles”.

The three of us are being insensibly pulled down this path — one result being, that I cannot directly address issues to Buzz, or even to my family, who are directly affected by them.

Buzz, in my posting to Bear, which is probably in Ted’s trash bin, I cut/pasted part of the article in the H Kfr 33 pre s s, realizing that you would be blocked from linking to the original. In this case, is suspect that more than an algorithm is at fault, since — as you say — communication between us two seems to be specifically targeted; and the interests of one particular go vern mt are being supported.

  28. @ Buzz of the Orient: Buzz and Michael, I have been having exactly this kind of trouble in my comments on other articles icon Israpundit. For what it is worth. Are hackers attacking the site? Is China censoring it? I have no idea.

  29. @ Michael S:

This is a test. I have tried twice to respond to your comment, and both times my comment disappeared, although I’ve had no trouble with my comment replying to Bear Klein and my comment to Ted about this problem.

  30. @Ted

Michael isn’t the only one having trouble here. I have TWICE tried to post a reply to Michael and both times my post did not register. I had no trouble in my reply to Bear Klein and did nothing different.

  31. @ Michael S:

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. It should be no surprise to you that I’m unable to open that Hong Kong site. I hope your family are not endangered and are safe in China. I feel perfectly safe here. I am not and have never been a Communist (LOL That sounds like an answer to a Joe McCarthy question). I am not an activist, I’m entirely apolitical here although as a Canadian expat I have supported the Ontario and Canadian Progressive Conservative parties for the past 40 years.

I am not at all uncomfortable living in a Communist country or among Communists, although most of the people I know here are as apolitical as I am. My mother’s brother, Jon, and sister and sister’s husband Alex were devout Communists. My uncle Jon joined the International Brigade in Spain fighting the Fascists, after which he joined the Canadian Army and fought the Nazis in Holland. My uncle Alex was a kind, gentle loving person who treated me like his own son, as they had no children. He was a carpenter, and when he died, left me his most valuable possessions, his tools. I will never forget the joy I felt when he would take me fishing. However, my father was another story. He despised Communists and Communism, having escaped being beaten and thrown out of a school in Russia because he was considered bourgeois – his family owned a sugar refinery. He emigrated to Canada as a teenager with 13 cents in his pocket. He used to say that he feared that my mother’s relatives would kill him for being such a Capitalist (He owned a factory with 18 employees). He was a devout Zionist, in which I have followed in his footsteps, having been a supporter of Israel ever since I put pennies from my weekly dime allowance into the pushka (blue box).

Anyway, Michael, I know we may disagree on some issues concerning Chins, but I wish you and your Chinese family well.

    Buzz

  32. @ Bear Klein:

Thanks for your response to my question. Although I had seen the Jerusalem Post article previously, I found the blog most helpful. I sure wish that Israel could have made a deal with China and it’s most likely state-owned corporations that to gain the advantages it wanted in Israel, it would promise to at least abstain in UN resolutions that are critical of Israel. I know that to support Israel would detrimentally affect its relationship with the oil-supplying Arab nations, so perhaps appearing more neutral would not be such a blow to Israel.

  33. @ Michael S:

Thanks for your reply Michael. No surprise that I can’t open that Hong Kong medium. I am genuinely sorry that your family are having difficulties in China. As a Canadian expat I’m not a Communist, nor am I a firebrand, an activist, and I am totally apolitical and live a very quiet life here (although I have supported the Conservative parties in Ontario and Canada for the past 40 years. As well, I am not at all uncomfortable living in a Communist country. My mother’s brother was a devout Communist who joined the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War, and then joined the Canadian Army fighting Nazis in Holland. My mother’s sister and her husband were such devout Communists they returned from Canada to Russia only to be so unhappy there my father had to pay to bring them back. I really loved my aunt’s husband – he was such a gentle and loving man, a simple carpenter, who left me his most valuable possessions when he died, his tools, and they treated me as if I were their son. I loved to go fishing with him. So perhaps I grew up with no fear of Communism. However, my father was a different story. In Russia his family owned a sugar refinery and they were despised as being bourgeois. My father was attending a Communist school until he was discovered, beaten and thrown out of the school, so as a teenager he emigrated to Canada with 13 cents in his pocket. He was a devout Zionist, hated Communists and Communism, and even thought that the ones in my mother’s family were going to kill him. Anyway, I hope that your family in China are safe.

  34. @ Ted Belman:
Hi, Ted. I just had a problem: I responded to Bear’s post, and it was dumped — probably into the trash. Lots of references in it to “C h i n a”, etc., which may be part of the problem. My own equipment should be trouble-free by now, so it may have something to do with your system’s algorithms. I checked, to make sure I did the captcha right, yet the error message I got said I had entered the number incorrectly.

  35. ONe I believe the Chinese were the only ones to bid on the port. By the way they have won port bids in the USA. There are several article in Israeli publications that address do a google search it might help you figure out the answer to your question.

    One recent artilce is https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Israel-China-experts-downplay-impact-of-Haifa-Port-decision-576988https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Israel-China-experts-downplay-impact-of-Haifa-Port-decision-576988

The following blog tackles your question and in it shows several other articles that deal with it. https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/the-haifa-port-china-conundrum-in-context/

  36. @ Buzz of the Orient:
    Hi, Buzz

For anyone to be able to comment knowledgeably on what you asked, they would have to be members of Bibi’s household. As an interested observer (much of my family lives in Red China), I would guess the following:

    1. The Chinese people have many good qualities; but unfortunately, they have been socially isolated and kept largely uniformed by an extremely malevolent Communist leadership.

    2. As Steve Bannon commented in an interview last year, China views ALL countries in the world, but especially its near neighbors, as barbarians to be either subjected or managed. The “One Belt One Road” policy is a poorly-disguised Eastern version of Western Imperialism.

    3. China is an absolute dictatorship. It gets its way internationally by waving a “World’s Second Largest Economy” carrot in front of its potential suitors, and greasing palms liberally to seal the deal. Increasingly, those wooed, however, are seeing the approach of the “big stick” in the background (I imagine the carrot and the grease are at work in the Haifa deal as well).

A recent revealing of the reality of dealing with China, is the takeover and change of leadership by the Chairman of Cathay Airlines:

    https://www.hongkongfp.com/2019/09/05/china-inflicting-world-defeats-disguised-win-win-victories/

I am certain you do not get the Hong Kong Free Press where you are, so the above is worth a read. I’m sorry that this is likely to damage the “social credit” standings of you and those close to you. That’s how the fortune cookie crumbles, especially for expats.

  37. @ Ted Belman:
    Hi, Ted

My computer was hacked over a month ago; and for the past week, I have not even been able to access Israpundit, much less comment on it. My equipment and connections have now been scrubbed; but I plan to be offline for other reasons for much of the coming month.
