  1. @ Sebastien Zorn:

I have a pulp with a story called “This Island Earth”, by Raymond F. Jones, a major Science Fiction writer. It was made in to a movie I recall seeing oh long, long ago, and don’t recall much about it. He also wrote “Alien”. Everything I have by Jones is top class.,

  2. @ Edgar G.:
Not to be confused with “Mysterious Island” by Verne. Or “Island” by Aldous Huxley. Pinchinat, it turns out, is a common place and family name in Haiti! He was the violist, I mentioned. In real life, Pierre Pinchinat was the leader of the free coloreds or mulattos who wanted a non-racial democracy. He was killed and the whites were exterminated. The new regime re-instituted slavery through a corvee system and Haiti was internationally isolated for the next century or so. Verne would have known this because he was a Socialist deputy in the French parliament during one of their endless revolutions between Monarchy and republic, 1830, I think.

  3. @ Sebastien Zorn:

I only vaguely remembered it and the name Zorn. I read it as the “Floating island”, in fact I think, a pretty old book by now. I have it somewhere in storage. You can never tell what those chamber musicians can get up to. And they often put down war wounds as something innocuous like a :rotator cuff injury from strenuous playing……. Hmmm.

I also have an old pulp with a story called “The Floating City” but no connection. Not a single Zorn to be seen.

  4. sorry i am one year out of date 6 day war was 51 years ago not 50. no ISRAELI celebrations planned but the terrorist will do something for 51st year.
Hamas organizing new wave of clashes on Israel-Gaza border to mark 51st anniversary of 1967 Six Day War.

  5. K@ Edgar G.:
Thanks. Propeller Island (1890) first published in English as The Floating Island; or The Pearl of The Pacific. The only science fiction/adventure novel I know whose main protagonists are the members of a string quartet. Not a coincidence. as I have mentioned a few times but I guess you missed or.forgot. Sebastien Zorn, my pen-namesake, is the cellist. The violist is Pinchinat and there is an interesting back story there.

  6. @ Sebastien Zorn:

Yes I had forgotten about that shoulder op. I wish you a perfect recovery. That you don’t see much needing your imput might both gratify and offend (at the same time) one or two who have brought textual bloviation to an art form, So windy sometimes, that you can hear the paper rustle.

You’ve brought up a very good point as I have often said that “this article should be sent to….”…. ( a variety of overseas people who might not normally see it) So to add it as an extra to your postings, is excellent Hasbara. I myself don’t want to mess around with those originally-for kids-outlets, as I am not a computer maven and I have heard that these venues are less than private, full of opportunities for hackers etc. i wouldn’t know how to protect against them, but YOU would.

Anyway, just to let you know that I missed your input and recalled reading a Jules Verne story which had a character with your very name, A musician also, so couldn’t resist.. All the Very Best.

  7. tomorrow june 5th, how will the state regognize this date? will the big shots gointo their shell and discuss their guilt felings as they’ve done in the past.
early a m 50 years ago the arab airforces wiped out by mirarge and mystere jet fighters. the so called 6 day war was really a contiuation of the 56 war.
had unki sam kept ikes word no doubt this would not have happened. thanks to unki sam not allowing ISRAEL to have u s fighter planes it was left to Dassault and his planes to do the job.
Nothing or very little has been written or said in the ISRAELI or JEWISH press re; the passing (may 28) of Serge Dassault whos Mirage and Mystère jet planes knocked out the arab air forces on day 1 of the 67 war.
DASSAULT was a JEW who he and his family spent time in the nazi death camps 39-40’s
Wonder if theres a street, a park, a square named after Dassault? theres plenty named after the terror lovers, peres, sharon, rabin.
I myself will toast the day with a bottle of M and H whisky, the good stuff spelt ‘ky’ not the ‘key’ rubish.

  8. @ Edgar G.:
Recovering from surgery. Also, I haven’t seen much that seemed to need my input. And, I just discovered Facebook and have been reposting articles there to an audience that really knows little or nothing. You’d be surprised how many sympathizers, even Jewish sympathizers, really don’t know any of this stuff. Almost everybody here already knows everything. Preaching to the choir, you know. I still check in but I’m really looking for news and info I don’t have. And, I too, am learning alot. There are a lot of pro-Israel sites there including Americans For A Safe Israel and once you start liking and posting in a certain genre it starts suggesting others automatically. There is some censorship but it seems to have abated, if only for the moment. I see the Harpo resemblance. A little.

  9. SEBASTIEN where are you…off playing somewhere for Jules Verne,….?

I’ve notice for a long time that the picture of Rabbi Dov Fischer, who writes op-eds in Arutz, is the absolute image of Harpo Marx. With a blonde wig, one would immediately think… Harpo redivivus………!!

  10. i find it interesting nothing or very little has been written or said in the ISRAELI or JEWISH press re; the passing (may 28) of Serge Dassault whos Mirage and Mystère jet planes knocked out the arab air forces on day 1 of the 67 war.

  11. I see that “Bottle-gate” has made a huge revival with Sara Netanyahu facing indictment.
Furniture-gate and chef-gate are included as well. I suppose it’s beyond the mental processes of the gazlonim to understand that the Netanyahus would sometimes also entertain foreign dignitaries at their own home instead of the dilapidated P.M.’s Residence And have quality cigars and fine wines to provide them with too.

This whole Netanyahu affair, as such a crux in our history, a most dangerous time, is a candal of huge proportions, showing the lengths that Israel’s enemies-for that’s what I call the Left- would go to, to take down a sitting P.M. for their own personal hate satisfaction.

I suppose that Herzog will gallop up on his charger and SAVE THE DAY for Israel….after some more deep voice lessons of course. And neck thickening exercises.

  12. #KarlMarx authorized any means necessary to establish communism. When those inevitably violent means are used to set up states that collapse after killing and enslaving millions, his apologists claim it just “wasn’t real communism” and try again. #Marx200

Free Market described as described by Adam Smith and interpreted by Libertarian Economics is the best for the advance of man and mankind.

  13. This post was supposed to be above the present one just above The above post was an edit to this post, but after adding it well within the time limit..TWICE, it disappeared TWICE, and still withtin the edit time I was told that I couldn’t add anything. I’m gettin mixed up here, I can’t compete with a computer…… Anyway this is what I originally wrote….

Can someone tell me of an internet site which, if I describe some scenes in a mid 20th cent. Hollywood movie, can tell me the name of it. It was about an Italian stone mason father-in-law with big opinions, (and a stomach to match)..who visited his daughter and husband -a writer- who’d just bought a house (without any advice from HIM) found many faults in it, and insisted on fixing them. What he did was hang up a sheet across the living room and over about a year, no one knew what he was doing..tore down the end wall and built the most massive fireplace, the whole wall wide that could roast 3 oxen, and etc.etc. I added a little extra this time.

  14. This father-in-law, moves in, wrecks the house, takes a year, tears down the end wall and builds a massive floor.ceiling natural stone fireplace, you could roast 3 oxen in, which encompasses the whole end wall of the house.

  15. @ Hugo Schmidt-Fischer:

Hugo that is certainly odd if it’s from a conversation of last year. Only now has it surfaced, and as I’ve said, it messed up my computer. Now it’s on Israel Hayom, and I have no bother getting it, although it being from last year is not mentioned.

A large part of Trump’s persona -perhaps even habitual tactics -seems to be to throw off sudden off-topic questions……. I didn’t read “The Art of The Deal” but wouldn’t be surprised if it is there somewhere. I know that it’s oft-used in legal cross-examination.

I hope you’re right and he has latched on to something far more important. But, for all his erratic make-up, he seems to be able to multi-compartmentalize very well, and will surely return to it at some time..

  16. Edgar G. Said:

There was a subject very briefly on Israpundit about Trump asking Netanyahu is he really wanted peace. It crashed my computer and when I tried to get into it again, all I got was error, 404, or something like that.

I wonder why they took the article down again. It is a worrisome topic.

These piece plans, all they want is another piece of Israel here and another slice there. Salamy tactics.

On the bright side, according to http://www.axiom.com where the report originated, the alleged phone call took place last year. Let’s hope they found other fish to fry in the meantime. And Israel can finally start constructing again.

  17. There was a subject very briefly on Israpundit about Trump asking Netanyahu is he really wanted peace. It crashed my computer and when I tried to get into it again, all I got was error, 404, or something like that.

I haven’t seen it come up on the lowest list of subjects either.

However my comment on it is that Trump’s question sounds suspiciously like a prelim to the follow-up…”well then you must stop building and hand over Judea and Samaria to the Arabs…”

Assuming that this is so, it shows that Trump knows nothing about the Arabs, the visceral, inborn, genetic, inherited, monstrous hatred and envy that Muslims have for the lowly Jews, particularly the fake “Palestinians”…. You can include the populations of the countries which have “peace” treaties with Israel….. Jordan and Egypt.

  18. The 1968 classic Star Trek Episode, “A Piece of the Action” puts me in mind of Trump’s “peace plan.”

“The crew of Enterprise struggles to cope with a planet of imitative people who have modeled their society on 1920’s gangsters.”

Israel’s Wildlife Hospital opens first-ever blood bank for birds
In effort to better treat migrating birds arriving in Israel exhausted or injured after having flown thousands of kilometers, Israeli veterinarians are creating a database for birds’ blood.

Every year, large birds, birds of prey and migrating birds arrive in Israel after flying thousands of kilometers. Some arrive exhausted, injured, and in need of medical treatment and sometimes even surgery.

Veterinarians at the Wildlife Hospital realized that they could better treat the birds if they had a blood bank for them because, much like humans, birds have different blood types…

  20. Israeli Doctors Develop Revolutionary Eye Drops That Could Replace Glasses
By Simona Shemer, NoCamels March 05, 2018

Israeli ophthalmologists at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem and Bar-Ilan University’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) revealed last month that they have successfully developed eyedrops that repair the corneas, improving near-sighted and far-sighted vision. These “nanodrops” were successfully tested on pigs’ corneas, according to the researchers, and are expected to be tested on humans in clinical trials later this year.

If proven successful on humans, the groundbreaking discovery could remove the need for eyeglasses. The nanodrops are made up of a synthetic nanoparticle solution, which helps correct cornea-related vision problems.

Dr. David Smadja, a research associate at BINA and the Head of the Ophthalmology Research Unit at Shaare Zedek who led the team of ophthalmologists, made the announcement at Shaare Zedek’s second annual research conference last month. He said the nanodrops could “revolutionize ophthalmological and optometry treatments of patients with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and other refractory conditions,” The Jerusalem Post reported. According to Dr. Smadja, the drops could eventually replace multifocal lenses, and allow people to see objects from different distances… [they experimented on animals which I oppose but I am posting it anyway as it is still reason for national pride.]

vegan congressMarch 4, 2018 | Tel Aviv will be hosting the fifth annual Vegan Congress this week from March 8 to 9. Since 2014, Vegan Friendly Israel, a non-profit organization working to make the vegan lifestyle more accessible to Israelis, has put together lectures by local and international vegan activists for the event. This year’s international speakers include Australia’s James Aspey, who kept silent for a year to raise awareness on animal cruelty, author, and international activist Nick Cooney, former president of Mercy For Animals, and Joey Carbstrong, a celebrity vegan activist from Australia with thousands of followers on YouTube and Instagram. This year’s Vegan Congress is expected to have at least 1,500 participants, similar to last year’s event. Israel has become a popular destination for vegans due to numerous vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants, especially in Tel Aviv, which is home to 400 vegan and vegan-friendly kitchens. Late last year, the city was crowned “vegan capital of the world” by British online newspaper The Independent.‘Vegan Capital’ Of Tel Aviv Hosts 5th Annual Vegan Congress

  23. I recently read an article in which representatives of American Jewish groups were threatening to cut off aid to Israeli hospitals. This article says that despite differences donations have continued to go up. From this article, I saw a breakdown as recently as 2007, of where the donations go. From 1975 to 1997 donations to Israel went up from about 1 billion to 2 billion. The article said that individual organizations also raise money independently. This is donations through Jewish umbrella organizaitions.

Well, then, I saw in the breakdown how much goes to Israeli Hospitals. My jaw dropped open. This is a threat? Less than 300 million.

    https://www.haaretz.com/jewish/1.5207972

I also found an article from the Jewish virtual library on the subject that said that only about half of the aid goes to Israel and the total aid is about 2 billion. Moreover, some of it even goes left wing organizations. Aid is not necessarily really aid.

But., here is an article that says that some Jewish organizations donate extensively to Jewish settlement across the Green line.

So, these threats are less than meaningless. We are not centralized and the people who don’t put Israel first don’t donate that much. If the do, they also donate
to groups trying to undermine Israel.
Left wing in Israel doesn’t mean foodstamps and rent subsidies for the Jewish poor. It means giving away the land to the enemy. Traditional right wingers support safety nets. Different from the US. Better, I think. Except for hampering economic development with unnecessary Bureaucracy which the more American Style Right wingers are often right about. But, only that.

Moroever, Israel is not a poor country. The aid helps but Israel doesn’t need it.

You see we come from different eras musically as well as otherwise. I like music to have a strongly pronounced musical content, and whilst I love improvisation and other embellishment, it has to within the chord structure of the melody.

There is a story by that old time bass player about how he sat with King Oliver one afternoon for hours, and all the time Oliver was playing 2 bar breaks, different each time. I think they got up to nearly 2500 at a rough estimate he said. The conversation had begun about the 2 bar breaks with The Creole Jazz Band with Armstrong, and Oliver said that he used to go over to Louis during the tune, when not playing, and hum a few notes for him as 2nd cornet, and it was this that became one of the standout parts of the group when it was making records. Did you ever listen to any, for instance “Jazzin’ Baby Blues”, or “Snake Rag”, or “Sobbin’ Blues,” “Canal Street Blues” “Mabel’s Dream”. which was dedicated to Mabel Normand etc..

Remember that they were made in 1923. in a rickety recording studio near the railroad tracks which caused a shake now and then. Also the pre-electric needle was suspended on a string, running from one side of the wax to the other. I suppose they tested for the best tension. Anyway, it was THESE recordings which really began the Dixieland craze, with all due respect to the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (The ODJB..white guys, who actually made the first Jazz recordings in 1917.) , which is revived every 30 years of so, although some groups and areas have it going all the time.

And in my building, the whole hallway was filled with the smell of gas once and the fire dept. had to break into the aparment of a family that was away and turn off the gas, either the pilot light or the actual stove whose knob somebody had accidentally brushed past, I heard two versions.

Can’t have electric either because the whole apartment is on one 20 amp fuse that blow in the basement which is locked and the super is part time. A microwave uses 19 amps. I looked it up.

Typical of old buildings in New York, better known as the land of Oz.

I once watched a city council hearing on tv in which the licensed supervisor of the unlicensed plumbers who work on the city’s gas lines was assuring the council members that they didn’t need a license, as there had never been a problem.

A microwave uses 19 amps and landlords are only obliged to give you a working stove not a new one so it can be refurbished and it always has a gas pilot light. Which, if it goes out, blow gas into the apartment and hall.

So you’re a damned gourmet chef…..well…that really cheeses me off…….

Me, I live on oatmeal, raisins and 1/2 banana every morning about 11-12. then nothing until about 9 p.m. which is either fish&(rye)dry bread, beans&dry bread or 1 egg omelet&dry bread. Nothing that takes more than about 3-4 mins in a microwave. No mystical ingredients mixed under a full moon, nor concocting like you. Often just bread and peanut butter as I’m too lazy to do any more. It seems to agree with me T.G..

  31. @ Sebastien Zorn:
Some things, particularly specialty foods, can be more expensive online, as in this case. Amazon is selling it for $16.99 a bottle, the usual price is $8.99, I bought it in a store for $3.99. But, not always, and it varies from store to store and at different times, different seasons. Avocados at Whole Foods are $1.00 online but $1.25 each at their store at Columbus Circle. Other stores are selling them for over $3 each. It’s random. Is it like that where you are?

You now Hispanices don’t need lawyers because you are what you eat.
