Goldstone says Israel guilty until proven innocent

The Goldstone Commission Inquiry reported that “Israel was guilty of war crimes and possibly crimes against humanity.” But I thought it was a fact finding inquiry only.>

2009 Annual Survey of American Jewish Opinion

The data reported here are from the 2009 Annual Survey of American Jewish Opinion, sponsored by the American Jewish Committee. Among the topics covered in the present survey are U.S.-Israel relations, the Arab-Israel conflict, and the Iran nuclear threat. Many of the questions appearing in the survey are new; others are drawn from previous American Jewish Committee surveys, including various Annual Surveys of American Jewish Opinion carried out between 1979 and 2008.

What are “the legitimate rights of the Palestinians”?

Yesterday Pres Obama addressed the UNGA on the subject of the conflict between Arabs and Jews conflict and had this to say; …I will also continue to seek a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine, and the Arab world.

Why have a forced marriage?

Israel is not guilty as charged

REUTERS REPORTS ON THE GOLDSTONE REPORT JUST RELEASED TODAY

“The mission concluded that actions amounting to war crimes, and possibly in some respects crimes against humanity, were committed by the Israel Defence Force,”U.N. investigator Richard Goldstone told reporters.

In response, Israel’s diplomatic mission in Geneva issued a statement that criticized Goldstone’s mission and explained why Israel did not cooperate with it.

All the more reason to support Netanyahu

I attended the Jewish Bloggers Conference in Jerusalem last night.  It was sponsored by Nefesh b’Nefesh and WebAds. A very exciting event.>

Israel can and must act in her own best interests

Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero – “Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future” Horace.

As I read Ettinger’s excellent piece below, I was reminded of other historical facts having to do with limiting Jewish settlement, emigration or immigration. Even before the British Mandate, Britain was actively limiting Jewish immigration to Palestine. Stalin also prevented Jewish emigration.

Netanyahu is sticking to Rabin’s guidelines

In attempting to evaluate the “partial freeze, we must be wary of spin. We must also be wary of “Greeks” bearing gifts. Netanyahu has released about 500 units for construction. Is this a big deal or no deal at all?

The Saudi Plan is really the US Plan

The Saudi Plan was introduced prior to the Gulf War. After the war began, the Roadmap was unveiled which included the Saudi Plan and now we are stuck with it.

Belman confronts Women in Black

Friday, in Jerusalem, is like Saturday in America only ten times better. In America, Saturday is a day unto itself. In Jerusalem, Friday is a prelude to the Shabbat. And most people here honour the Shabbat. The Shabbat is not just a day of worship like Sunday used to be in America, it is a day that is much anticipated and much prepared for. Food must be bought and cooked prior to Shabbat, a bottle of wine must be bought for saying Kiddish, flowers must be bought to grace the home and the children and their clothes must be scrubbed in preparation. All this so that the families can welcome in the Shabbat, considered a bride, at sundown.

The Problem Isn’t Settlements, It’s Arab Rejection of Israel

SIGN THE PETITION
ADL : August 5, 2009
ADL has grown increasingly concerned by the seemingly single-minded focus on an Israeli settlements freeze by Administration officials and those directly engaged in promoting Israeli-Arab negotiations leading to a final resolution of the conflict. We are confident in the fortitude of the U.S.-Israel relationship, and President Obama has been clear about the stalwart U.S. support for Israel and the importance of this relationship.

Don’t just stand there, do something

The talk of the town, Jerusalem that is, is that Mitchell, Gates, Ross and a whole US team are in discussions for the sought-after freeze among other things.

One Israeli diplomat commented on Israel’s position,

Just say “No” to the settlement freeze

The Jews are divided as to what they want. The left wants to get the hell out of the West Bank. The center, including Kadima and Labour, want to keep the settlement blocks containing most of the settlers but are prepared to uproot as many as 70,000 Jews, perhaps even 100,000. The right does not want to allow a Palestinian state to emerge, even if demilitarized.

Memo to Bibi. What your speech should entail.

The League of Nations granted to Jews everywhere the right to settle in Judea and Samaria. The Palestine Mandate recognized our right to reconstitute our ancient homeland there. The United Nations is bound by this document.

What settlement freeze commitment?

Everyone assumes that Israel is committed to freezing settlement activity without preconditions. Not so. Here’s why.

If the US abandons Israel, will Russia fit the bill?

On March 30th DEBKA reported

DEBKAfile’s Washington sources report that the Obama administration is on the threshold of a major rapprochement with Tehran, a reversal of US policy dramatic enough to block out international sanctions. Iran will be allowed to keep its nuclear program, including military elements and enriched uranium stocks, up to the point of actually assembling a weapon.

Obama’s Muslim Outreach

One year ago I wrote about Obama’s Muslim connection. No matter how strong this connection was, the main stream media and ultimately Jewish Americans ignored it.

NYT: Give the Palestinians what they want, or else.

As the Netanyahu government nears completion, everyone is piling on the pressure to succumb to Palestinian demands. The EU made it clear again, if Israel rejects the two-state solution, it won’t be business as usual between Israel and the EU.

Pick your poison, Israel

Israel must decide whether to attack Iran or not and whether to accept the Saudi Plan or not. In both cases Israel has to pick her poison.

“Change” has come

Editorial Board, The Jewish Press

The stunning news that the U.S. plans to provide some $900 million to help rebuild Gaza is just one indication that the “change” President Obama promised is upon us and that Israel is in for a tough ride. Plainly, the notion that Hamas should feel inhibited out of fear of a repeat of Operation Cast Lead has now been rendered laughable.

Who wants what in the coalition

Netanyahu has met with Kadima and offered it an equal number of ministries with him being the Prime Minister. These ministries will include the foreign Ministry and Defence for Livni and Mofaz respectively. Kadima is mulling the offer. It is possible that Livni will reject it and Mofaz will accept it leading to a split of Kadima.

Mandate for Israel

Over three years ago I came across a new demographic study by AIDRG which argues that for the foreseeable future Jews would outnumber Arabs in Israel, Judea and Samaria by a ratio of 2:1. This fact gave rise to the suggestion that Israel should favour a Jewish One-State Plan. I became an immediate convert and wrote Israel, From the Mediterranean to the Jordan. I made the acquaintance of Mike Wise, Yoram Ettinger and Bennett Zimmerman who were the driving forces behind it.

Netanyahu’s grand coalition

Caroline Glick , THE JERUSALEM POST

The “international community” is eagerly anticipating the incoming Obama administration’s policy toward Israel. It is widely assumed that as soon as he comes into office, US President-elect Barack Obama will move quickly to place massive pressure on the next Israeli government to withdraw from Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and the Golan Heights in the interests of advancing a “peace process” with the Palestinians and the Syrians.

Three prominant Canadians praise Bush legacy

-Robert Fulford
Bush’s billions saved lived in Africa but how many people know this?

For those Canadians who hate Americans, and believe in their hearts that they are intrinsically superior to the citizens of the United States, George W. Bushs two terms have been a radiant period, an era when familiar impulses of nationalist bigotry were reinforced by unbridled, exuberant rage. At the same time, liberal Americans who see the Republicans as the party of the devil have enjoyed eight years of intense self-righteousness. Its unlikely that either group will ever know such satisfactions again.

Change we can believe in, or not

Obama’s tells us that he is for “change we can believe in”. But is he?

What is it about Bush’s policies that the Left is so angry about and wants to change.

My visit to Kibbutz Ein Harod

Mike Packard, a longtime friend of Israpundit, invited me to spend Shabbat with him and his family in Kibbutz Ein Harod. I gratefully accepted. So on Friday I hopped on a bus in Jerusalem headed for Beit Shean.

A ceasefire at any cost

As I write, the “ceasefire”, lull” or whatever has been in place for an hour, but what are its terms? Nobody is saying at least not exactly. All responsible ministers are not to be seen and they are hiding behind the back of Maj Gen (ret’d), Amos Gilad who negotiated the deal under their orders.
