There are many disturbing aspects of this podcast. Thhe host, Rabbi Goldberg, showed far more interest in Douglas Murray’s life and career than in Israel. One particularly disturbing moment was when Murray noted that many people in the west believed that their was something fundamentally bad and illegitimate about Israel that was more than any daily specific actions of the Israeli government. But he never explained what that source of illegitimacy was. The host, Rabbi Goldberg , was partially responsible for this failure because he replied to Murray’s observation that Israel’s enemies in the Western press opposed its existence, not just this or that specific action by the Israeli government, by dimissing the subject. Rabi Goldeberg said that Israel ‘s enemies only wanted it to disappear only because “it was succesful” and they were losers. He then immediately refocused the converstion to Marray’s life history and personal experiences, This was his focus throught the podcast, along with lavish praise of Mr. Murray and thanks for his support for Israel. But the Rabbi showed little or no interest in what was going on now, or much the less in its controversial history and origins. Yet another example of Israelis, and Israel’s friends abroad, unwillingness to defend it the international “court of public opinion.” The world outside Israel hears only the Palestinian “narrative,” not Israel’s side of the story. That is shameful and a major source of Israel’s pariah status in the world.
Nothing I didn’t already know. But I guess some people can learn from it.
