Arab League and Turkey Are Obama’s New Best Friends..Israel?

One Jerusalem

As wide spread unrest began to rock the Arab world some speculated that the Obama Administration would now drop its pointless focus on the Palestinians, where there is no prospect for a negotiated settlement. Israel would be given a bit of rest from “negotiating” with the Palestinian Authority that does not represent the Palestinian people and refuses to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish State.

Last week President Obama made it clear that he still believes that Israel is at fault and needs to search its soul in its relations with the Palestinians. And yesterday, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates ratcheted up the pressure on Israel to make further concessions to the Palestinians. Gates’ strong armed tactics come as Israel is being subjected to rocket attacks, as Israel mourns the murder of the Fogel family, and is still shaken by the terrorist attack in the heart of Jerusalem.

It wasn’t long ago, when the President of the United States and his administration would be supporting Israel when it is under attack. Today that is not the case. Israel under attack is a signal for the Obama Administration to badger Israel.

While the attitude of the Obama administration is consistent with its past Israel policy, there may be another more ominous explanation for this new round of pressure on Israel. Yesterday, Secretary of State Clinton once again praised the thugs that constitute the Arab League. For a discussion of the Arab League, we recommend reading Claudia Rosett’s latest analysis. Here is an excerpt from Rosett’s column:

That’s exactly why the 22-member Arab League, far from being one of the best regional fixers in this effort, is one the worst. The League of Arab States — to use its official name — is not a club of democratic reformers hoping to bring civil liberties to Libya. It is a fractious collection of 21 Arab governments plus the Palestinian Authority, which it has already dubbed a state. Among its members, along with such relatively moderate Islamic countries as Morocco, are some of the world’s most unregenerately despotic, anti-Semitic, terror-breeding or terror-supporting regimes. These include Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and — although the League on Feb. 22 suspended its participation — Libya itself.

But the reality of the Arab League is not stopping Clinton and Obama from siding with them and elevating these enemies of Israel to level of loyal allies of the United States.

The same is happening with Turkey. Turkey, the sponsor of the terrorist laden flotillas against Israel, is being heralded by the Obama Administration for its support of NATO intervention in Libya.

These new alliances should worry friends of Israel. One can make the case that Israel is being thrown overboard for the Arab League and Turkey. While these new found friends are being courted and praised, Israel is being publicly lectured to by President Obama and Secretary Gates.

This new alignment is bad for the United States and Israel.

SIDE NOTE: While the Obama Administration is at war with Libya it just backed a UN resolution that supports a one year study on the human rights situation in Iran. Is there anyone on this planet that does not know the human rights abuses in Iran? This ridiculous investigation is one more way of stalling: Not taking necessary action against Iran.

  1. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates ratcheted up the pressure on Israel to make further concessions to the Palestinians…

The Secretary of Defense?? DoD is supposed to stay out of politics.
And even though the DoD was [almost certainly] directed to do this by the CinC, this is still a bad development.

I wonder how many Americans get it?

  2. ShyGuy is correct that Russia can’t be trusted. Sad to say, but Israel can’t completely trust ANYONE including her own weak, ineffectual leadership.

  3. @Assi is spot on,Israel must say NO !
On the other hand, the las meeting between Medvedev -Bibi and saudis as surprise guest indicate that obama is losing his grip everwhere in the ME

  4. Israel should minimize its dealings with Obama as well as with the Russians. They are both up to no good. Israel should have more self-confidence and refuse the establishment of a palestinian state within its borders. What is America and Western Europe going to do, declare a no-fly zone over Israel? Israel would blow the Americans and the French away in no time. I would not underestimate Israel’s military power. We have the military power to deal with any foreign threats that come our way. So lets stop being afraid of just saying NO. Believe me that nobody wants to mess with Israel. We just need to overcome the psychological fear of the United States.

…the new Russo-Israeli cooperation accord in Space Technology (a technology which includes obviously military aspects such as ROCKETS and (spy/bomb) SATELLITES. Bibi’s head may not be as stuffed with fluff as some here think it is.

The Russians are no friends of the Jews. It has been Israel doing all the courting to Putin and not the other way around. We’re feeding them our best technologies and, like the rails of the Avenue L, it will be fired against us eventually by the Arabs, Russia’s client states.

  7. Netanyahu’s answer to Gates (who was visiting Israel while Bibi was visiting Russia), is apparently the new Russo-Israeli cooperation accord in Space Technology (a technology which includes obviously military aspects such as ROCKETS and (spy/bomb) SATELLITES. Bibi’s head may not be as stuffed with fluff as some here think it is.
