By Ron Jager, AMERICAN THINKER
Not a day goes by without Jews being shot in their synagogues, stabbed, bludgeoned by blocks, physically attacked, pushed to the ground, spat on, and cursed; without graffiti on the walls of Jewish institutions, graffiti on the walls of synagogues; without victims killed, maimed for life, traumatized, hospitalized, extended rehabilitation. The list goes on and on. Older Chassidic Jews, young orthodox Jews, Conservative Jews, Reform Jews, non-affiliated Jews — they are all targeted, irrespective of their level of Jewishness, irrespective of whether they look or act Jewish. They are preyed upon only because they are Jews. The daily incidents now pass without much notice. A steady and acceptable level of violence and hate targeting Jewish people anywhere and everywhere is seemingly quietly condoned and accepted as a daily fact of American life.
Where are the powerful Jewish American organizations that are always at the forefront of helping others? We Jews are always there to be the first to extend a helping hand — donate funds, arrange media attention, pull strings with politicians, enlist leading newspapers. Yet when it comes to defending American Jews against the spiraling epidemic of physically violent anti-Semitic attacks, there is a deafening silence. Jewish organizations that were built for the precise purpose of navigating times like these are to a large extent inadequate, unresponsive, and restrained, as if they do not want to rock the boat, as if they are careful not to demand accountability from those that are entrusted to protect us. Too many of these Jewish organizations are operating with a myopic moral compass that guides their largely pathetic indifference. They deny the urgency of the clear and present danger to the well-being of American Jews.
Sadly, we the Jewish people are complicit in our own victimhood, making excuses for and throwing in our lot with the Democratic half of the political system, whose members proudly parade Muslim congresswomen espousing anti-Semitic poison disguised as progressivism. American Jewry proudly stands on the same stage with Tlaib and Omar, providing them support and encouragement as they demonize and slander the State of Israel. American Jews have subcontracted their expectation of personal and communal safety to anti-Semitic Democratic politicians who cynically and casually reap political benefits despite their incessant and calculated use of anti-Semitic tropes since being elected.
Even New York’s Democratic mayor, Bill de Blasio, promised this past June to immediately open an office devoted to combatting anti-Semitism. Three months later and uncounted anti-Jewish hate crimes later, nothing has really happened other than a couple of tweets and press releases. As far as I can assess, tweets have yet to stop a single attack.
American Jewry, being so closely associated with the Democratic Party, seem to suffer from perpetual numbness. It seems as if almost no one in the Democratic Party will stand up for American Jews despite the obligatory calls for tolerance, yet any real action is clearly missing and not a part of the public discourse concerning the epidemic of anti-Semitic attacks throughout America. It seems that it is much easier to be vocally outraged over accusations of disloyalty than to demand that the Democratic Party take a clear stand against anti-Semitic politicians among their ranks and do something about it. It seems as if American Jewry and the communal organizations are complicit in their own humiliation, making excuses and exonerating the very political forces empowering violent anti-Semitic attacks by members of the Muslim community and black Americans, often bombarded and inundated by social media references to statements and actions by Democratic politicians such as Tlaib and Omar.
Many will claim that this situation is not unique and that throughout Jewish history, there have always been members of the tribe who undermined the survival of the Jewish people. American Jewry is undergoing a serious crisis despite the pervasive denial everywhere. Large Jewish communities that were fully assimilated pillars in their respective countries throughout Europe are now no more than memories and memorials. The role of a Jewish minority vocally and visibly at the forefront, occupying a disproportionate role in an increasingly toxic political atmosphere, always supporting the party that humiliates American Jewry the most, is weakening the very Jews that they claim to represent. Their inept defense of and abdication on personal safety of American Jews is a foregone conclusion. Slowly but surely, this support and identification with the Democratic Party has transformed American Jews to be seen as isolated and defenseless in the eyes of anti-Semites, many living their lives on the threshold of crossing the line and physically attacking random American Jews.
Denial can be understood to be a mechanism in which confrontation with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of the problem or reality. American Jewry are at the crossroads and must reassess whom they can count on to ensure the continuation of Jewish communal life in America. Associating with true political allies rather than with those politicians who take American Jewish support for granted should be the first step in a long process of re-evaluating how American Jewry deal with the denial that is blinding their ability to defend themselves and each other.

With a reasonable understanding of how Jewish life is once again threatened, not just in our ancestral countries of Europe eagerly embracing the Church/State promulgation of anti-Semitism, but now in The Promised Land itself–America should turn our attention to a reality check. After surviving the vile Jew hatred of FDR and his State Department turning its back on the SS St. Louis and ignoring the plight of Europe’s Jews; after supporting Israel’s independence, we have conveniently elected to disregard how anti-Semitism is like an ameba that continues to re-format growth cells if not destroyed. Obama’s overt actions to threaten Jews and Israel were simply ignored, despite how rancid the sellout to Iran was with the nuclear deal; or, how Obama gave the middle finger to Israel at the UN in his last month in office.
Trump understands that only the strong survive in a world that has tolerated the rise of Iran, North Korea, Red China, and Russia; thus, he respects the no nonsense approach of Israel, while dismissing the obscene PLO/PA paying bounties to families of murderers attacking Israeli citizens. Yet, with all of their education, American Jews cannot see through the fog of the media and ultra leftist Dems who already almost achieved a soft coup d’etat.
Just like how the Jews of NYC did not vote for Giuliani but benefited from the safety he re-established, so will the Jews of America who do not vote for Trump will continue to benefit from living in safety. At some point soon, I can only hope that all these acutely liberal American Jews wake-up and realize why the Congress would not even indignantly rise-up against the anti-Semitic tirades of its new Muslim members; from this, determine who is with us, and who is not.
Consequently, until Trump, American Jews tripped over their feet to be hyper liberal to the extent of even excoriating Israel, forgetting how goes Israel is how goes Jews in the Diaspora. American Jews were so pathetic in their embrace of Obama, electing to give him a pass as anti-Semitism re-ignited and blossomed on our college campuses in parallel to its growth in England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden, etc.
To those American Jews who close their eyes to the re-energized anti-Semitism taking root here, how many more Jews should be assaulted in Brooklyn; how many more children should be stifled at college; how many more swastikas applied to religious sites? To what extent do they know their will be no “transfer agreement” for escape?

@ Lorensacho:
Superficial? Yet it seems you barely “read” it, much less digested it, all you do is to recite the talking points, “fairness, empathy, generosity and learning.” What a cruel joke. That may have been true decades ago, but not in the present time, after 8 years of Obama. You are the perfect example of the self-blinded jew that the author describes in the article. It would be pitiful, if it weren’t enraging.
We Jews have always been our own worst enemy. We’re far more concerned with being liked than we are for standing up for ourselves. As long as we believe ourselves unworthy, we will continue to be treated as unworthy. It’s time to show the world who we are and what we’ve accomplished and will continue to accomplish!
@ Charli:
Everything you say I absolutely agree with….except this Loren whatever is no “idiot”. “Useful”, yes, but not to the Jewish People,. To my knowledge he has been told the same things many times., in answer to his provocative posts. I’m quite convinced, from others of his posts, that he is a deliberate, intentional provocateur, who posts here to cause commotion and annoyance to us all, because this is a nationalistic blog and a nationalistic membership. . If we weren’t …he would not be here.
Just the way you rose to his bait. He got enjoyment from your obviously serious, honest attempt to set him “straight”…that is…as much as a corkscrew can be made straight. What we used to call “a tzilahachus”…a word used only in our Community I believe.
@ Lorensacho:
You are a useful idiot. You are blinded by Trump Detangement Syndrome. You condemn the best friend Israel has ever had. Your Democratic Party ideals trump your support for Israel. When we say “Never forget”, you have already forgotten. In your zeal to support the rabid antisemite Ilhan Omar, you sell your enemies the rope that they will hang you with. It’s clear that 70% of American Jews are living with their heads in the sand, refusing to see the signs of Jew – hatred that we’re also present at the beginning of the rise of Hitler.
Brilliant analysis by Dr. Jager. I am an American Jew myself. But when it comes to politics, I believe that most of my fellow American Jews who have political views at all are complete ______holes. I have had conversations with some Jewish Democrats about American politics, but have discovered that they insist on talking all the time non-stop and won’t give me a chance to anser them. They are only interested in monologue, not dialogue. Some of them blame Israel for the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Ron, Your analysis is very superficial. American Jews associate themselves with the Democratic Party because it most represents the values of the Jewish culture, i.e. fairness, empathy, generosity and learning. The Republicans under Trump represent racism, white supremacy, greed, cruelty towards strangers and the rejection of science. While most Jews love Israel, living a just life in America takes precedence.
