They do have the “brains”, but they are mired in political chicanery up to their jug ears. And they are both hapless and vicious as well as Anti an Independent Israel. They want the 2SS as a constant threat against Israel and Israel as a big source of R&D, Intelligence as well as a customer for cutting edge weaponry which basically Israel tests for the US.
That they could have this without the 2SS is something they don’t seem to be aware of, or, maybe they are, but they’d lose their “chess-master” position.
Remember, Lord Palmerston’s dictum, ” nations have no permanent friends, or permanent enemies only permanent interests”.
Of course he didn’t know the Middle East Arabs, which to him were just backsides left handed thumb wipers.

Yes it’s a goal BUT, still a fantasy. As long as Israel exists and has an active IDF, it will never happen.
Ambassador Friedman is of course, the “former” Ambassador, under Trump, so what he thinks is only his opinion, and since he was Trump’s ambassador to Israel, his opinion will only be considered by those who are out of power and out of favor.
So, it all comes back to Trump. The world was a better and safer place when he was President. The people who are in power now in the US are bad people, and their ambassador (Jack Lew) is a bad guy. I think that the meme “Do ya miss me yet?” certainly applies to Trump, because he would not have been trying to shove a ceasefire, or a two-state solution down Israel’s throat.
In a comment below, someone says that the Biden administration is “clinging to their fantasy of the TSS” (Two-state Solution). It’s not a fantasy. It’s a goal. They know full-well that it would not bring peace to Israel. It would bring war. But, that’s what the Neocons want, a world with continuous on-going (but manageable) wars. In the game, the Jews are expendable, just as are all proxies. This is why we need Trump, (or somebody like him), to stop this madness.
Agree Israeli Sovereignty in Gaza, Judea & Samaria
Blinken & Biden do not agree and they are going to be pain in the ass as they have not the brains to see Gaza can not be ruled by anyone other than Israel unless you accept another October 7.
I agree with Ambassador Friedman that the attack on October 7th shows the disaster that would occur with a two state solution.
If Israel were to have military control over Judea and Samaria as well as Gaza, the Palestinian people should have all their arms confiscated. All weapons stores would need to be turned over to Israel. Those armored vehicles the US paid for in the West Bank would be turned over to Israel. Anyone caught with weapons would need to be handled either in the criminal justice system (if they want to stay in Israel) or else deported from Israel. Any and all Palestinians who did not want to live under Israeli sovereignty would be free to leave the country.
UNWRA would no longer be needed as those Palestinians who want to be Israeli citizens can no longer claim refugee status.
The Biden administration is clinging to their fantasy of the TSS, and clinging to their efforts to support Iran and all of Iran’s proxies in the Middle East. The Biden administration will, to the end, show itself to be an adversary of Israel while pretending to be an ally of Israel.
Friedman gives the Biden Administration an “A” for their military support of Israel. I disagree with him on that. They get an “F” because nothing they give is done willingly, with no strings attached. Everything is done to hamstring Israel every time they do something positive for Israel.
This whole war never would have happened were it not for the Obama and Biden administrations’ coddling of and empowering of Iran, Hezbollah, the PA, and Hamas. They paid for this war, they encouraged it, and now they have the blood of over 1300 innocent Israelis on their hands.
And just like they do in every other conflict, they now want Israel to back off before Israel is victorious. It shows the moral depravity of the Biden Administration, and their betrayal of the Israeli people.
