Jerusalem Post turns away Bat Ye’or

Jihad Watch

Recently the Jerusalem Post ran an article by Mark R. Cohen, “The New Muslim Anti-Semitism,” which repeated many politically correct and comforting historical fictions, including:

THE FLIP SIDE of the discriminatory regulations imposed upon Jews is that they (as well as Christians) were a “protected people,” ahl al-dhimma or dhimmis in Arabic, who enjoyed security of life and property, religious freedom, freedom from forced conversion, communal autonomy, and equality in the marketplace. For all its religious exclusivity and hostility towards the Jews, expressed in the Koran and in other Islamic literature, Islam contains a nucleus of pluralism that gave the Jews in Muslim lands greater security than Jews had in Christian Europe. For other important reasons, too, Jews in the Islamic orbit were spared the damaging stigma of “otherness” and anti-Semitism suffered by Jews in Europe. They were indigenous to the Near East – not immigrants, as in many parts of the Christian West – and largely indistinguishable physically from their Arab-Muslim neighbors.

Bat Ye’or, the pioneering historian of dhimmitude, wrote this in response and sent it to the Post:

  1. The E.U. foreign ministers are working very diligently to arrange a truce. Since Israel’s foreign trade is primarily with Europe, their concerns carry considerable weight. I would hazard a gues that after a few more days, perhaps after a week some truce arrangement wiil be arranged.

  2. Charles and Keelie: right on ! Here is an item from Samson Blinded that is relevant:

Peskin pls, note: Naw, you wouldn’t would you?

    Peace process started in Holocaust
    By Obadiah Shoher

The world’s attempts at the peace process can only be understood in historical context. On their own, they are unintelligible. Why, indeed, the countries are so concerned with national rights of a three-million-people no-nation? The West doesn’t support independence for hundreds of liberation movements worldwide even when they clearly involve historically, linguistically, and genetically distinguishable nations. Nor is the West overly concerned with one country taking another’s land: the paragon of democracy had itself annexed a third of Mexico; Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and France annexed core German lands. Nor is anyone really concerned about suppressing minorities, especially when they are hostile: there is no need to appeal to the well-known example of Russia and Chechens when France legalized Breton names only a few years ago. It’s also hard to see how is the West concerned with religious freedom in the places like Saudi Arabia.

Perhaps Israel is pushed to inessential concessions only? On the contrary, the Road Map plan demands us ceding the Temple Mount, Jerusalem, and Judea. If there are Jewish territories on earth, those are the ones. It’s a sort of Russia abandoning Kremlin or America selling the White House.
Maybe some painful concessions are historically normal? Not for victors. There is not a single instance in the world history when an attacked country won the war, conquered the land from its enemy, and then relinquished it out of goodwill. Israel was attacked half a dozen times in six decades; taking over the enemy’s land is a historically standard retribution.

Is there any benefit for Israel in agreeing to the concessions, however bizarre? No, they are clearly suicidal. No state can possibly exist in eight-mile-wide borders, let alone a state besieged by three hundred million enemies.

International attitude to Israel is clarified by the auxiliary demands. Israel has to fight nicely, send her children into urban combat, and even there somehow inquire of the terrorist affiliation before shooting. Israel has to be liberal – that is, abandon Judaism which demands strict morality. Israel has to open herself to foreign influence, thus forgoing uniquely Jewish lifestyle. Israel has to be democratic: in plain English, allow Arab voters to subvert the Jewish state. Israel has to be tolerant to minorities and accept Arabs as one third of her population. What remains of the Jewish state when all those ultimatums are implemented?

Look further. The US, our closest ally, bans our attack on Iran which will get nuclear weapons the next year. The US Administration is therefore okay with nuclear Iran which wants to wipe Israel off the map. This is not an isolated event: America condemned Israel for bombing the Iraqi nuclear reactor. In 1967, the outlook was apocalyptic, Jews digged tens of thousands of graves and prepared for total annihilation, but the US barred us from preempting; likewise in 1973. Two years after Holocaust, the United Stated and Britain did not give their UN votes for establishing Jewish state. When the state was established nonetheless, they embargoed weapons sales.

Polls indicate moderate anti-Semitism in America up to 1937, around 15%. In the terms of today’s polls, those were hardcore anti-Semites, with about twice that many latent Jew-haters. Not surprisingly, then, that polls indicate a sharp rise of American anti-Semitism in 1939-41 when papers delivered the news of anti-Semitic repressions in Germany and Austria. Common Americans saw that anti-Semitism is actionable and socially acceptable. During the war, polls steadily placed Jews as the most disliked group in America well ahead of its German and Japanese citizens.

In 1944, Germans came up with an offer to release up to one million Jews; the Allies refused to negotiate. When Jewish organizations scrambled to collect the necessary amount, the Allies informed them that the borders would remain shut. The Jews were sent to Auschwitz.

During the Holocaust, America, Britain, and Russia conducted daily radio broadcasts on occupied territories. Millions of people listened to every word. Not a single time had the broadcasters warned the Jews to flee or told about the massacres. Stalin new about the extermination from day one, Roosevelt and Churchill – at least from January 1942, probably earlier. Their intelligence intercepted German radio transmissions with exact numbers of murdered Jews, but they did not warn the Jews to flee. So when the Jews boarded the trains to Auschwitz, the name meant nothing to them.

Before the war, when Germans and Austrians repressed the Jews atrociously, Britain concurred with exactly similar measures: just like Germany and Austria, Britain forbade Jews to buy land – in the Jewish national home, entrusted to Britain by the League of Nations. The 1939 White Paper formally reneged on the Balfour declaration and the Mandate’s terms, limited Jewish immigration to a trickle, subject to Arab approval, and blocked Jews from the only place in the world they could escape to.
The free world gathered at the Evian conference to find a place for Jewish refugees. At the time, immigration to the US ran well below the legally established quota; even without moral considerations, the law allowed about 100,000 more immigrants per year. The US and Britain announced they would not admit any refugees, a euphemism for Jewish undesirables. The Britain reneged on its obligation to establish Jewish national home in Palestine just when it was most needed, and curtailed immigration into our own land; a laughable explanation was that the Arabs were upset about the coming Jews – as if the Britain cared in the least about opinions of Palestinian peasants. There was no place for Jews in other parts of the globe-spanning British empire, too. Other countries happily followed the suit. The Germans got the message: their opponents don’t want the Jews anywhere.

The Holocaust was a four-headed beast: America, Britain, and Russia played their parts.

The peace process is just another means of Holocaust.

  3. Right on keelie. Peskin’s faux realism rehashed ad nauseam on these pages is nothing more than thinly-veiled Jew hatred and craven appeasement.

  4. The Arabs have a population of over 350mil, the muslims number 1.3 bil. and are growing fast. Whether you or I like it or not matters little. They are important to the west. And that’s the way things are.

It matters little whether you or I like it or not. The point is that these – our so-called “moral superiors” – are constantly beating their breasts – are full of compassion – for the suffering Palestinians, but obviously for nobody else on the planet. Selective compassion. Why so? Because it’s the Jews. Jews killing their enemies, are far scarier than Sri Lankans killing their enemies.

The duty of the Jew is to be killed; not to kill. The Jew has to know his place. Right?

  5. The war between Turkey and the Kurds has been ongoing for the last 25 years. 40,000 people have been killed — including nearly two-hundred during the same period the BBC, Reuters and the rest of the global media have been handwringing over the Israeli operation in Gaza. The reason that the Turkey/Kurdish story (two Muslim populations) like that of the Tamil Tigers goes unreported and unnoticed is because of world-wide Jew hatred facilitated by useful idiots like you peskin.

  6. Keelie:

None have proposed dividing Colombo and handing over half to the Tamils. Virtually no one knows that 65,000 civilians have died in the fighting and the media have no interest in covering the story.

For fear of repeating the obvious, till the cows come home, numbers count- the average individual in the west knows absolutely zilch about the Tamil Tigers. On a relative world scale their numbers are low. The Arabs have a population of over 350mil, the muslims number 1.3 bil. and are growing fast. Whether you or I like it or not matters little. They are important to the west. And that’s the way things are.

  7. Excellent, Keelie, this is but one example that shows the real double standard in a world that is obsessed with Israel and mesmerized by Arab refugees who have been refused entry into Arab states for the past 6 decades and yet those states have never been asked this simple question: Why have you abandoned your own and why not take them in now?

  8. Not really off-topic:

Prof. Steven Plaut of Haifa University in Israel emails me the following:

The jets bombed the bejeebers out of them. The ground forces invaded. They at long last suppressed the terrorists, who had conducted a long campaign of suicide bombing and planting bombs, and put an end to any notion that the terrorists and their sponsors would be granted their own state.

Many civilians were killed and wounded, yet not a single protest was made against the invasion anywhere. I am of course referring to the conquest by the army of Sri Lanka over the past few days of the last hold-out city of the Tamil independence rebels.

Kilinochchi was the last town held by the Tamil “Tiger” Rebels, considered to be a terrorist group by the United States. With it fell the last Tamil hope of setting up an independent state or even of getting autonomy inside Sri Lanka. The Tamils have their own state inside India but were not satisfied with that manifestation of “self-determination.” Kilinochchi, 579 kilometers north of Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo, was until recent months the center of political power for the rebels.

Meanwhile not a single Solidarity-with-the-Tamil-Tigers protest has been organized on a single Western campus or in a single downtown square. Mobs and “academics” have not taken to the streets to demand an end to the war of aggression against the Tamils. Leftist web sites have not proclaimed every injury of a Tamil civilian to be a Nazi-like war crime and an act of genocide.

Eurocrats have not pontificated about how the Sri Lankan response to the terror was out of proportion. The International Solidarity Movement has not sent in protesters from the West to try to defend the terrorists. Communists and fellow travelers have not organized flotillas of boats carrying aid to the terrorists. Israeli politicians have not lectured the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka about how the whole problem is that they are insensitive to the needs of the “Other.”

None have proposed dividing Colombo and handing over half to the Tamils. Virtually no one knows that 65,000 civilians have died in the fighting and the media have no interest in covering the story.

  9. One of the reasons for the huge reaction by the usual denialists and reactionaries – both Muslim and Western – against the Gaza invasion, is the fact that if (when) the Israelis finally do away with entities such as Hamas, their virtually impenetrable fantasies will crumble. These people live in their own sealed-in world of fantasy, sustained by both the so-called “intellectual elites” and almost all of “the media,” both of whom entertain, sustain, and even boost, these same fantasies. This is why any display of “truth” – in other words, anything that contradicts the fantasies – simply doesn’t register.

There’s nothing worse than having your world of fantasy broken down right in front of your eyes.

  10. Yes – and the Palestinians continue to support Hamas without fail. It is a government speaking for Palestinians and they are in support of their terror government. For that matter, all the Fatah members, most notably Hannah Ashwari, also support Hamas. They refuse to acknowledge the effects of their own terrorist tactics and self-destructive tendencies on their own people. They refuse to mention the bloody Hamas coup waged against Fatah. They refuse to view Israel as legitimate and Israelis as anything more than targets to be dispensed with.

The Palestinians care about a cessation of this Israeli operation because it is successful and will stop them from gathering more weapons and terror training from Iran – it will slow down their jihad. The “humanitarian” issues are a red herring that they complain about incessantly using exaggerations and lies for media consumption. They are getting aid but they are preventing wounded people from going to Egypt which is in effect using wounded people as pawns in their sick strategy. Everything is staged for the media and for the PR war and they must be challenged on this in places such as Israpundit.

The “experts” from the Palestinian side (a large scale academic industry for hacks it seems) always downplay the thousands of missiles and terrorism and agree that it will not stop until Israel totally submits to the will of Hamas and Hezbollah. They use the word “occupation” as a fact when it is a lie – Israel is only interested in controlling weapons and terrorism in Gaza, not food and medicine.

Israel is now fighting a war on behalf of all peace-loving people (though in their ignorance they do not recognize it as such) and yet those who are members of so-called peace groups are actually backing the terrorists and lend moral support to their cause.

Keep up the great work, Israel, and ignore those who would lie to destroy your resolve and emasculate you to destroy your nation.
