Peloni: The source of the leaked intelligence should be seen as a feature rather than a bug in Washington’s policy staffing. Indeed, the refusal of Washington to respond to reports of Tabatabai’s connections to Iran while she held such a clearly sensitive position in the Pentagon, must be considered in light of Washington’s attempt to maintain Malley in his position following a significant intelligence leak from Malley who brought Tabatabai into the govt to begin with. With this in mind, it should be further appreciated that the questionable appointments to sensitive positions by such Iranian allied personalities such as Tabatabai and Malley are representative of the broader Washington employment roster, and as such, the leak could have come from any of the Iranian allied actors working within the anti-Israel corridors of Washington. In fact, it would have been quite foolish for someone with Tabatabai’s notoriety to conduct the leak, as there are no doubt any number of less obvious candidates which might have been the source.
