T. Belman. What undermines the rule of law is the governments failure to protect her citizens. The citizens are taking the law into their own hands because is failing to do so. Obviously, if the government took a stronger stance, the citizens wouldn’t take action. In addition, this is not a matter of crime and punishment so much as it is an existential battle. The Palestinians back the terrorists and the citizens should be help responsible. Collective punishment is in order.
PM criticizes National Security Minister for calling on Israelis to move to unauthorized outposts in Judea and Samaria.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir during the weekly Cabinet meeting Sunday over Ben-Gvir’s call for Israelis to move to unauthorized outposts in Judea and Samaria.
“Such statements undermine law and order – they must stop immediately,” Netanyahu said, adding that “we will not condone such actions and our government will act firmly against them. They harm the settlement enterprise and the vital interests of the State of Israel.”
Ben-Gvir responded on his Twitter account: “I appreciate and love the Prime Minister, but the problem of our governance does not start with the settlers in Judea and Samaria, but with leniency for the rioters in the Golan Heights and the selective enforcement and lack of enforcement. The right-wing government must realize its vision, settlement in the territories of Judea and Samaria together with zero tolerance towards those who threaten that if we do not accede to their demands there will be war, Israel must not fold!”

On Friday, Ben-Gvir arrived at the Eviyatar outpost and called for more outposts to be built. “Run for the hilltops and settle them. We love you.”
“My position is known. I give you my full and complete backing, but I want much more than the settlement that is currently here. “There needs to be a full settlement here. Not just here but on all the hilltops around us. We have to settle the land of Israel and at the same time need to launch a military campaign, blow up buildings, assassinate terrorists. Not one, or two, but dozens, hundreds, or if needed, thousands,” Ben-Gvir said.
“We’re going to strengthen our hold, return security to residents and most of all fulfill our great mission,” he added.
Ben-Gvir rocks!

Quite true. Until the govt accepts the reality that this is not a crime wave, but an absolute attack on the nation, they will continue to fail to provide the security and stability within the nation to regain the public’s confidence. The reality remains that it is the lack of confidence that the govt can or will protect its citizens which has driven its citizens to respond in place of the govt. In fact, the lack of judicial remedy and personal security has creating a great fissure between the people and the govt, which is why Bibi was able to cobble together an impressive mandate in the past election by parties expected to mend this void. If Bibi continues to fail to act in concordance of that mandate, it will increase, not decrease the public’s sense of hopelessness about their personal situation and it is his failure to do so which has brought us to where we stand today.
In point of fact, it is not the people which have failed the govt by their response to the wave of terror taking place. Rather it is the govt which has failed the people by NOT responding to the wave of terror taking place, or at least not responding appropriately. The failure entirely rests with the govt’s inability to resolve itself to the situation it is currently facing, and the people are quite aware and quite sensitive to this failure Consequently, the govt should not reproach the people for filling the void between their need of security and the limit being provided to them by their govt. Rather the govt should demonstrate their reproach for its own short sighted policy which appeases its ‘allies’ at the expense of its citizens security, a policy which has and will continue to abandon some number to pay the ultimate price while the rest of the citizenry simply deal with the fact that any one of them may soon be counted amongst the victims of their govt’s failures.
