‘Lapid, Gantz need to decide if they support majority rule’

Avigdor Liberman: ‘Expect agreement on judicial reform – this week’

MK Milwidsky (Likud) tells INN that it is possible to reach agreement on the judicial reform but it’s the opposition’s turn to compromise.

In a conversation with Arutz Sheva – Israel National News, MK Hanoch Milwidsky of the Likud discussed negotiations on the judicial reform and pointed out that his party has made a significant compromise – and that it is now the opposition’s turn to follow turn.

“I hope this does not lead to an explosion. There are almost no gaps when it comes to substance. The main difference is what we do from here. Do we agree to legislation and the committee for selecting judges, or do we continue to procrastinate as the opposition would like us to? I think the time has come for Lapid and Gantz to decide whether they want to try to reach an agreement as the majority of the people would like to see, or dance to the tune of the rioters,” he points out.

In his opinion, legal reform should be promoted through consensus. “Coalition leaders will have to decide. We are committed to fulfilling the opposition’s requests but are still waiting to see if they come through on their end of the deal.”

Milwidsky also referred to former Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s call for a civil war with the Right. “This is a serious matter. I expect Barak to be brought in for questioning and the Attorney General to express her concern regarding violence and threats towards elected officials and their family members. At the moment, we have a thunderous silence that further motivates rioters who are driven by hatred and a desire to create chaos.”

“We have a very serious situation on our hands,” he says. “Violence has crossed all red lines.”

Milwidsky was asked how he believes the government should deal with violence in Arab sector. “The situation in the Arab community is the result of a long period of neglect,” he says. “On the one hand, it is clear that there was a lack of adequate inspection while on the other, it must be remembered that the tradition of Arab society includes a reluctance to cooperate with the government’s enforcement agencies. It is not only the number of deaths, but also the weapons they’re using. I’m glad that the Prime Minister is taking this matter upon himself and creating an action team that will use measures to help fight criminal organizations.”
