An important point to remember. If the election is a fair one, the result will not alter, but the West has no interest in the will of the people of Ukraine, not in the slightest.
It strikes me as interesting that on May 11, 2014, one week after the Odessa Massacre took place, when the first referendum was held in Dombas, the Nationalist Ukrainians attacked the city of Mariupol killing about a half dozen people and declared the referendums held in Donetz and Lughanz as being illegitimate [even as they held a similar referendum in another part of the country]. Similarly on the day of the recent referendums sponsored by Russia, the Ukrainians did not withhold their fire, but continued their attacks on the areas in question as they declared the referendums as illegitimate. It is as if they were, on both occasions, trying to remind the public of the reasons why the referendums were being held. Of course, their short sighted goal was to disrupt the momentous referendums on each occasion. The effect, however, was to remind the people casting their votes, as they cast their votes, that there was really only one rational choice on the ballot, both in 2014 and in 2022.

I would remind everyone, since the western media doesn’t, that the Russian “special operation” only started after the declaration of Independence by the four provinces. So in effect, Russian didn’t invade Ukraine.

When the West claims the referendum was a sham, it is acknowledging the right of secession providing the referendum is done right. Therefor Another referendum could be held and supervised by the international community, providing that the West agrees to accept the result.
The focused attack on the general population in Donetz City is reprehensible, it is a war crime, and it is done with the complicity of the US and NATO as they are supplying the weapons being deployed against the residential areas, something which predated the Russian invasion by 8yrs. During the 8yrs in which the people of Dombas withstood the attacks by the West upon them, there was a constant expectation that Russia would come to their rescue, even as Putin deliberately and clearly delineated his interest in supporting the besieged ethnic Russians by diplomatic means alone. It is with tone deaf ears which the West currently suspect that the recent referendums were rigged. The people of many of these areas were supportive of seeking refuge in the Russian Federation 8yrs ago when Anne-Laure Bonnel’s documentary was being filmed, when this current onslaught first began. These ethic Russians do not see Russia as having invaded Ukraine, but as having finally come to their rescue, even as thousands died in their homes and millions more fled the constant attacks, all the while waiting for Russia to have saved them from the Western supported onslaught of their former countrymen.
