Conservative movement demands Netanyahu not make Ben-Gvir a minister

T. Belman. Powerful forces are aligned to convince Netanyahu to diminish the victory of the right in Israel.  This is the latest such attempt. You will recall that President Herzog also called for unity government, as did Bennett and Amb Kurtzer to name the most prominent voices.. To deny Ben Gvir a cabinet post is to exclude the Religious Zionist Party from the government. This pressure is also being apply to Gantz and Lapid to relent on their refusal to sit in a government led by Netanyahu.

Everyone can accept Netanyahu’s centrist policies. They cannot accept religious Zionist policies. ALL THE MORE REASON TO INSIST ON THEM.

Yisrael Beytenu MK: Bibi is trying to get rid of Ben Gvir and Smotrich

Mercaz Olami organization of Conservative Judaism makes direct call on next PM not to allow Otzma Yehudit leader to ministerial position.

Mercaz Olami, the Zionist arm of Masorti-Conservative Judaism in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and Australia, called on presumptive Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu not to allow Otzma Yehudit chairman MK a minister in the government he is expected to form.

The organization said in a statement on the elections for the 25th Knesset which were held in Israel last week: “The national elections which took place in Israel this past week were open and transparent. The voter turnout was particularly high, attesting to the strength of Israel’s democracy. We are proud of this reality and of Israel as a vibrant democracy. We also applaud the fact that all sides accept the results of the election. We affirm our unshakable support for the State of Israel.”

“However, in light of the basic values stated in the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel, we respond to the election results with great concern. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the coalition which appears to be in the making, will include politicians whose positions regarding basic elements of democracy and diversity (such as Jewish pluralism, LGBTQ and vulnerable minorities) significantly differ from the values which have guided Zionism since its inception. The bridges between Israel and world Jewry could be severely damaged if a step back will be taken on sensitive issues like the Egalitarian Kotel, conversion, and who is a Jew.

“We are worried and troubled because the power of Israel depends not only on her military and economic strength but also on her values, her international stature as a liberal democracy and her connection with the Jewish people around the world.

“We have always been proud of Israel and plan to continue to be so forever. (Every moment, every day, every hour). This very eternal pride causes us to firmly turn to the next Prime Minister of Israel with a request not to appoint Itamar Ben-Gvir to a ministerial position in the new Government. He has been convicted of criminal acts including incitement of racism, possession of propaganda material of a terrorist organization and support of a terrorist organization,” the Conservative organization said.

  1. @stevenl I am also secular but I will support anybody who will stop the violence and discrimination against Jews as well as the theft of the land by the Arabs and I perceive that anything that waters down Jewish tribal bonds impedes that. So, I hope Ben-Gvir and Smotrich get all their demands met.

“In 2017, the USCJ General Assembly made the historic decision to allow people of other faith backgrounds to become members of synagogues, enabling all members of interfaith couples and families to belong. ”

Any Muslim spouses or family members you suppose?

Shouldn’t fanatical Two-staters be classified as a religion or a cult, more like?

  3. Masorti” is the Hebrew name for the Conservative movement in Israel. But very few Israeli Jews who give themselves the informal Masorti label also say they are members of the formal international movement known as Conservative Judaism (2%).

  4. I have spoken to a number of high level people in the Kiruv Movement/Industry
One very highly placed source put it truthfully…
“No one wants to admit this openly, but the real assimilation rate in Conservative and Reform is near 100%”
Those that do marry Jewish are very lightly affiliated and or non legally converted..
    Or their partners are.
    Conservative and Reform Judaism are
    “Dead Men Walking”
We should give their opinions and pressure…
    The “Weight” it deserves.

  5. The Conservative Movement has been, for decades, in decline. The only increase in the Conservative Movement is the average age. Their children marry into Reform congregations, thus the average age of the members continues to rise.
