Ukraine has been shelling residential area of RUSSIA PROPER (beyond the border with Ukraine) for months now.
Ukraine is a rogue terror state. They have used such indiscriminate shelling of their own populace for nearly a decade. Given that Russia does not see a distinction between their own people and those in the Dombas, whom they are rescuing from these radical Nationalists, it is hardly reasonable that the regime in Ukraine would make such a distinction when applying their use of such terrorist tactics as the shelling of urban areas.
Actually, Ukraine has been shelling residential area of RUSSIA PROPER (beyond the border with Ukraine) for months now.
Imagine, if Mexico started shelling the US territory what would happen to Mexico.

Well, if Russia were insane enough to blow up their own billion dollar pipeline, why wouldn’t they also blow up their own hydroelectric dam? Actually, I am not sure why the Russians are not blowing up all the infrastructures in the territories they hold, as well as the infrastructure back in Russia just to be consistently silly. Certainly, it would all make as little sense as when Russia blew up their pipelines. I am of course being quite facetious in this statement, as it is quite silly to think Russia would shoot themselves in one foot, much less in two.
The loss of the dam would indeed destroy the surrounding territories as Reader notes, and for what reason would they do this? Do remind me, who was it that shelled the nuclear power plant when they could not seize it by force, even intentionally placing the UN inspectors lives in distinct danger. That was Ukraine, as noted by the inspectors themselves, who were forced to thank the Russians for saving their lives. If Ukraine would destroy a nuclear plant out of spite of losing a battle, why not a dam too? They clearly would do it, just as clearly as Russia would not do it, certainly not while they still hold the territory which would be affected by it.
It is quite in line with the desire of Hitler to have Germany destroyed in the fading hours of his Nazi state when it became clear that the Nazi’s could not forestall their ultimate defeat. Perhaps this historical coincidence is mere happenstance, but, perhaps this fatalistic desire to spoil the lands which they can not hold has a historical basis for these Nazi supporting and Nazi admiring profligates in Kiev.

Russian forces are planning to use the withdrawal to execute a “false-flag” attack on Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant – less than 50 miles east of Kherson,
That’s what the Russians have been saying about the Ukrainian side for at least a week now.
Think about it – why would they destroy their newly acquired territories?
It is like committing suicide.
HI, Sebastien. You said,
@Michael Was the US forced to leave Afghanistan?
No, we weren’t; but we did. We went in to kick out the Taliban; and in the end, the Taliban came back in control. The same is likely to happen to the Russians in Ukraine.
The bottom line is, NATO is over 10 times more powerful than Russia, which has no reliable allies. China is eager to buy bargain-basement Russian gas, which reaches them over pipelines thousands of miles long — all subject to sabotage by Russians and minorities who will eventually tire of Putin and his endless, futile “special operations”. However, China, which has many internal woes of its own, is preparing for its own fool’s run at Taiwan, and does not have resources to spare helping out its loser ally to the north.
President Trump wisely sought to extricate the US from an untenible situation in Afghanistan. He would have made an orderly withdrawal, but Biden turned it into a shameful rout.
@Michael Was the US forced to leave Afghanistan? Looked optional to me. Same with Iraq. Maybe Vietnam. That’s the problem with democracy. In every protracted war America won, including the American Revolution, civil rights were cancelled, anti-war dissent was criminalized and outlawed.
Russian forces are planning to use the withdrawal to execute a “false-flag” attack on Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant – less than 50 miles east of Kherson, the Institute for the Study of War said.
Surokivin’s plot to blow up the dam will cover Russia’s retreat from the right bank of the Dnipro River and push back Ukrainian advances, a report said.
Destroying the plant in Nova Kakhovka would send an avalanche of water down the river towards the city of Kherson, wiping out towns and villages along the way.

“The Kremlin could attempt to leverage such a false-flag attack to overshadow the news of a third humiliating retreat for Russian forces, this time from western Kherson,” the Institute for the Study of War said.
