Shaked pressuring Bennett: Agree to right-wing government in the current Knesset

T. Belman. This option is being investigated first. I imagine one of the issues is assuming that it is so formed, how long will its term be. Bennett will want it to be as long as possible, Netanyahu will want it to end as soon as possible. I think we are looking at a 3 year term. I would be OK with Bennett as Def Minister.

It may be if all rightwing parties come together on the Sovereignty law, that would signal a deal has been done on the new government. Sa’ar would have to agree with the Likud legislation to impower the Knesset at the expense of the Selection Committee. Maybe he rejected it at first in order to strengthen his bargaining position.

If his government disintegrates, Bennett will consider joining a right-wing government led by Netanyahu.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked is pressuring Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to agree to the formation of a right-wing government in the current Knesset.

This would mean Bennett giving up the role of Prime Minister. Shaked is not only pressuring the Prime Minister on this, but also senior members of the New Hope party. The main obstacle is whether everyone involved would consent to sit under Benjamin Netanyahu. Bennett himself is very reluctant about the move, but does not completely rule it out.

Israel Hayom’s senior political correspondent Mati Tuchfeld reports that if the government disintegrates soon, Bennett’s first preference will be to go to elections, but not at any cost. If he loses the role of Prime Minister in a transitional government or is unsure about the possibility of running together with New Hope in a unified slate that will pass the electoral threshold, it appears that the option of forming a right-wing government led by Netanyahu, in which Bennett would serve as Defense Minister, will again be a viable option for him. As far as Shaked is concerned, this option is preferable to elections, so she is working to promote the matter now.

Senior members of Yamina and New Hope have been talking in recent days about the two parties running together in the next elections. Tuchfeld says that many obstacles still stand in the way before the move can be implemented. The main one is the mistrust between Bennett and New Hope chairman Gideon Sa’ar. Bennett is not sure that Sa’ar will help him become Prime Minister during the transition period, and Sa’ar may even prefer that Yair Lapid be the one to head the transition period, which will open the options for the chairmanship of the united Yamina-New Hope slate.

According to Tuchfeld, there are also disagreements in the opposition about the preferred scenario should the government collapse. While opposition leader Netanyahu and senior Likud figures prefer elections, the haredi parties prefer an alternative government in the current Knesset.

“The Likud is encouraged by the steady rise of the right-wing bloc in the polls, which is what is encouraging them to prefer elections over a right-wing government led by Netanyahu right now. At the same time, it is estimated that if a right-wing government can be formed without heavy prices being paid, Netanyahu may agree,” wrote Tuchfeld.

  1. @Sebastien
Thank you for recalling the most obvious evidence of the invenerate hostility between these two important members of Israel’s body politic.

Of course, how could anyone forget the piercing attacks against Netanyahu shared in Shaked’s recorded comments, which also provided an eye into the desperate mindset of a group of politicos who would have struck any bargain to prevent them having to face their voters again. The ensuing tragedy in the form of a Brotherhood captured govt was an example of the extreme lengths to which the components of the govt were willing to go, simply to avoid a public response to their ideological infidelities.

This, among other recordings of Shaked’s private conversations, provide an important record of their private testimony regarding their public activities. Indeed, it did, for a time, appear as if she had a private recording studio accompanying her wherever she went to publicly reveal what mentioned in private conversations, something that has occurred with far less regularity after forming their current govt.

I hope she and Orback are successful in concluding the Brotherhood tyranny over the nation, one way or the other. Its final hour can not come one minute too soon.

I have been following the conversation of you and Peloni with great interest.

You write scurrilously about our young (72) sexpot “hottie” Benjamino Netanyalino” our stand-out Latin Lover, and Shaked, our giggly young female (46) with the Schoolgirl Complexion, (The Dawn Cosmetics Company slogan in 1939) who has a childish “crush” on our Lothario.

You actually deny it, but rather “Shakedly” (forgive the pun) .

Your actual words are “she openly stated that she wanted Netanyahu ……
(as prime minister a year ago”).

As Peloni notes, your immediate next sentence is.. “I’m starting to think that among a few people this attraction to “Bibi” is actually subconsciously sexual”., from which can be inferred that Shaked is one of “the few”.Maybe you meant to say “the two”…..

Then you go on to talk about the man who was kissing a photo…..although you neglected to say it was a photo….. A PHOTO of Netanyahu, and add,,(“one wonders what the man would do if and when he met Netanyahu personally –would he be able to restrain himself from rushing over and planting a long juicy kiss on Bibi’s lips”)

Well I see this as his way of expressing strong support for Netanyahu.

Since it was a photo, it could have ben “posed” by and for the photographer, and deliberately made to look weird.. Since you are anti Netanyahu it could have been in an “anti” site.

Again you “Shakedly” , cobbled an explanation, which satisfied you. I didn’t care anyway.

Perhaps you should actually read what you write, to see how others could understand it, and then edit it…………….

  3. @Reader
Well I believed that because it was stated in the very next sentence. If you had corrected me in your previous post rather than what you did, we’d be one step ahead of hear and now. In any event, it was not my intention to mischaracterize your statement, so forgive my misconstruing your statement.

  4. @peloni

If you had read my comments carefully, you would have known that I never said anything bad about Shaked.

I merely stated that a few people seem to have a certain inclination when worshiping their political idols, and it was YOU who decided that I meant to include Shaked.

As far as that poster-kissing man – think whatever you want – you can think about it as someone kissing the icon of his saint, or the photo of his dear friend, or whatever.

To me, the picture of an adult male joyfully kissing a photo of a politician on a street poster is beyond weird.

  5. @READER-

I can see your very real concern about the future of Israel, indeed your future home. How are your Aliyah arrangements progressing?

So the best thing for you is to get there soonest, and perhaps join your Party of choice and try to have some influence which will straighten out things. Although you lately see to have been projecting a strong socialist bent, this is a disaster for Israel’s special circumstances, so I believe that for Israel you would definitely be Right Wing.

  6. @Reader

don’t write what you think I said or thought

I distinctly did not write what you think, only commented on your low borne conclusion. If you don’t want me to write about what you wrote, when you tagged me with @Peloni, don’t write it. My comment was fairly stated, I think, and if you think I misrepresented something you wrote, explain it. If I mischaracterized your comment, I’d be happy to share a correction, but, again, I think my comment was fairly made.

    she mentioned Netanyahu by name.

Don’t be obtuse. Of course she mentioned him by name. He was leader of the largest party, as I stated. It wasn’t code. It wasn’t a sexual attraction. It was routine political calculus based around an ideology that she shares with Likud and Bibi regardless of their quarrel. There was no way to form a coalition without Likud which Bibi was leader, unless they were to do something really really unbelievably stupid and disasterous, like forming a govt with the Muslim Brotherhood and give away the store to them. Unfortunately, that is exactly what they did do.

You have the gall to write

don’t write what you think I said or thought

    and then

you treasure him regardless of what he is or what he does.

As if you have a right to comment on my own thoughts after suggesting I should not do so with your own. Keep the conversation on the topic, not on myself. You have no basis to judge me and no right to do so in any event. Ad Hominen attacks are well beneath your skill, so again, do better.

  7. @peloni

NO, she didn’t speak in “code”, she mentioned Netanyahu by name.

I say what I mean and mean what I say.

You don’t have to like it but don’t write what you think I said or thought – you can always ask me for a clarification.

As far as what I think about Netanuahu – I think that he for years has divided the country and the Knesset to suit his own needs for power and recognition at the expense of the good of the country and the people.

If this line of thought doesn’t suit you – there is nothing I can do about it.

Obviously, you treasure him regardless of what he is or what he does.

    Fine with me.

  8. @Reader

She openly stated that she wanted Netanyahu as prime minister a year ago when the coalition was still being built.

I am starting to think that among a few people this attraction to “Bibi” is actually subconsciously sexual

She openly stated that she wanted to form a Right wing govt, and since you prefer to play blind man’s bluff when anyone says Right wing, it references those parties that align with Likud due to ideological and/or religious principles or benefits – I think that is broad enough without being too vague. Bibi was the leader of the largest party in the Knessett and as such, due to electoral tradition and electoral math and common sense with a dash of mutual benefit, all Right wing parties supported a govt with him as leader, all but Saar, that is.

Shaked and Netanyahu have had a long term quarrel and his desire to distance Shaked and Bennett as much as possible – indeed a distance of infinity seemed too close – even to make every attempt to scorn them from his coalition so I think your complaint that she chose Bibi out of any form of affinity for the man personally is quite unfounded.

Furthermore, I find your suggestion quite demeaning to all involved. It does speak to your own overwhelming consumption for the man or from the man, but I won’t suggest you are suffering from a state of projection in making the above slander, just laying some rather low taunts that are well beneath you, I think. Surely you must have better arguments to make, as any would likely be better than this denigrating tripe you seem to have fantasized about. So do us all a favor, yourself included, and lift the subject from the gutter if you can, as it speaks too low of your ability to form a fair and equitable argument, and, as I say, I know you can do much better.

  9. @Edgar G.

He was kissing a POSTER. a piece of paper… …Was it a newsreel or is there a link ?? . I am curious.

This was a still photo, and it was, as I remember, during the last elections in Israel, so if they have to have elections this year, you might be lucky enough to witness this for yourself.

Or, if your Hebrew is good, you might want to do a search in Hebrew for the pic.

  10. @SEBASTIEN

Just shows what a lying twister he is, He defends them only because they are VERY corruptly trying to put Netanyahu behind bars. (back to front)

Otherwise, in those fare off days when he was regarded as sane, he attacked them.

  11. @READER-

He was kissing a POSTER. a piece of paper….Oh, I thought you meant he was kissing Netanyahu. And even then you don’t know the relationship they may have been very old friends. Maybe even “kissin cuzzins”…Just speculating, needs no response.

I see nothing wrong with that. Everyone doesn’t express joy or happiness in the same way, and obviously , now I see that he was expressing his.

How he “looked” is immaterial, you aren’t a diagnostician, nor a behavioural specialist. But I’m glad to have at last got it straight.

As for “looks” Zero Mostel ALWAYS looked as if his eyes were going to pop right out of his face. But they didn’t……..as far as I know….Edward G. Robinson always looked as if he was going to murder someone. .anyone, but we know that he was a very cultured, kindly bibliophile and art collector.

Stan Laurel always looked as if he was going to be hauled away to a booby hatch…but we know that HE was the brains behind that duo’s enormous fame and appeal.

Rudolf Valentino looked like a sizzling sex pot, which he always played on the screen, but contemporary accounts of his personal attributes say that he was very ordinary-in every way.

Howard Hughes’ “Spruce Goose” looked as if it could never lift off the ground but we know that it DID. Benzino Napaloni looked like Mussolini but we know that he was just good old Jack Oakie…

(Thinking of Napaloni reminds me of my old friend Rabbi Zalman Aloni, our Dayan-who looked exactly like a clean cut old Assyrian -complete with wavy beard.)

And as for Billy Gilbert, he was one of my favourite characters on screen.

Was it a newsreel or is there a link ??

    . I am curious.

  12. If Shaked is working for a right wing direction for THIS government, that means Bennett or Lapid will be still PM and NO LIKUD nor Netanyahu, both of whom are so sorely needed by the country. It she’d wanted Netanyahu for PM a year ago, she’s had a whole year of backing Bennett, and apparently leached it out of her system.

She falls in my estimation of her.

    So for me NG.

  13. @Edgar

I wasn’t talking about friendly or family kisses when greeting each other.

This guy looked disturbingly WEIRD, the way he was kissing that poster.

A sexual reaction to a political idol is nothing new, it was known to happen when Hitler or Stalin appeared before the adoring crowds but I thought it usually happened to women and not men.

You live and learn, I guess.

In my family and community people could kiss each other or their children on the cheek but NEVER on the lips (unless they were husband and wife, and then not in public).

  14. Coalition MK: Israel is heading to new elections

A coalition lawmaker who spoke with a rogue Yamina MK says early elections are now inevitable, the Knesset Channel reported Thursday evening.

In an interview Thursday, MK Merav Ben-Ari (Yesh Atid) revealed that she spoke with MK Nir Orbach, a member of the Yamina faction who announced earlier this week he will leave the coalition, launching negotiations with Opposition lawmakers for the formation of an alternative government.

  15. @READER-

I’m glad you’re “starting to think” but not at what you’re thinking about.

You sound like a guy with a “dirty ” mind, but I believ you are not.. Please get back to your pre slide into silliness and pseudo-psychoanalysis of your subjects, [plus suggesting that your speculations are what your dispute partner is thinking.

For your information it is a common custom amongst close know communities to gree one another male and female, with a kiss, somethimes on the cheek , but also on the lips , both sexes.
Sexuality of ANY kind is NOT involved.

I myself came from a similar family pattern, Our kisses were from love and respect. I still kiss my children, mature adults as they are, when we meet.

  16. @peloni

She openly stated that she wanted Netanyahu as prime minister a year ago when the coalition was still being built.

I am starting to think that among a few people this attraction to “Bibi” is actually subconsciously sexual – I saw a photo of an Israeli man PASSIONATELY kissing Netanyahu’s face on a poster (one wonders what the man would do if and when he met Netanyahu personally – would he be able to restrain himself from rushing over and planting a long, juicy kiss on Bibi’s lips?)

There is NO “right wing” in Israel, the fake terminology gives the public something to fight each other about in order to distract it from what the politicians are actually doing.

You keep listening to what they are saying instead of watching what they are actually DOING.

  17. @Reader

She wants Netanyahu back in power.

She wants the Right back in power, and she to have a role in the resulting govt. To do this, she has to avoid elections for as long as possible to limit the damage that Yamina and NewHope have brought unto themselves with their experimental govt of bribes and self-interest which could not pass the most basic tests of legislative needs.

  18. She wants Netanyahu back in power.

    What right wing?

Hareidi parties are there solely to fight for “their” piece of the pie and for influence of their “sector” (BTW, the Haredi parties enabled Oslo – that’s how “right wing” they are).

Smotrich said a couple of months ago that who is a Jew is solely determined by religion – I bet this is really good news for about 80-90% of the world’s Jewry, and the most outstanding thing his party members are known for is running around de facto half-Arab Jerusalem with Israel’s flags once or twice a year.

Ben-Gvir is only capable of provocations which result in rockets from Gaza.

As far as Likud is concerned they are Netanyahu’s tin soldiers, and Netanyahu’s major talents are saying the right thing at the right time with his magical baritone and then doing whatever he wants.

  19. Then give her a private room in the Womens’ Barracks.

All this political crap could have been done any time towards the beginning of their inglorious “year”. …..and doesn’t hide the fact that Bennett stole the votes of right wing voters to alli with the Muslim Brotherhood front.party
