T. Belman. While I appreciate her pro-Israel sentiments, they are of little value when at the same time she actively opposed Trump. The last thing we want is for her to be reelected so that she can continue her vendetta against Trump in his next Administration. Disloyalty has a price. No good can come of this.
Thus AIPAC, by this act, is undermining the most pro-Israel president ever.
On April 29, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) tweeted that it was proud to support Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) because “we deeply appreciate her strong and unwavering support for the US-Israel relationship during her entire career in public service.” The tweet was a 180-degree reversal of the group’s previous stance that effectively shunned the congresswoman despite her fervent support for the Jewish State.

The dispute between AIPAC and Cheney began after the Congresswoman, one of the most poignant critics of former President Donald Trump’s denial of the legitimacy of the November 2020 presidential elections, attacked the pro-Israel lobby for supporting 37 Republicans who share Trump’s assertions that the election was stolen. Things between Cheney and AIPAC got even worse after the lobby decided to support 109 out of 147 Republicans who voted against accepting the election results.
On March 19, Cheney tweeted: “America’s relationship with Israel has never been more important. Those of us who have never wavered in our support for Israel or our fight against antisemitism in the US and around the world want AIPAC members to know your leadership is playing a dangerous game of politics.”
According to Ha’aretz, AIPAC’s anti-Cheney stance was directed by former Florida congressman Jeff Miller, a close supporter of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and a senior member of the Republican Jewish Coalition. Miller reportedly has been using rude expletives in describing the Wyoming Representative who also happens to be the daughter of a former Republican vice president.
Miller told an audience how he had given an ultimatum to vendors working with Republican candidates not to help Cheney’s re-election campaign. He also recently hosted a fundraising event for Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s main rival in the Wyoming primaries, who is backed by Trump.
Incidentally, in 2016, Hageman worked with Senator Ted Cruz of Texas to force a vote on the convention floor between Trump and Cruz, ignoring the primary results, because Trump was “the weakest candidate,” who was going to be easily defeated by the Democrats and drag the party down to defeat with him. She said Trump was a bigot and urged convention delegates to stay away from “somebody who is racist and xenophobic.”

AIPAC spokesman Marshall Wittmann sent out an email to members denying the whole allegation about Miller, insisting that “we deeply appreciate Rep. Cheney’s strong and unwavering support for the US-Israel relationship during her entire career in public service.”

In 2015, Cheney and her father expressed their opposition to the Iran deal, suggesting it would “lead to a nuclear-armed Iran.” In 2019, Cheney urged the United States to consider a “proportional military response” against Iran for attacking oil bases in Saudi Arabia. In 2020, Cheney expressed support for Israeli plans to annex parts of Judea and Samaria and signed a letter addressed to then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirming “the unshakeable alliance between the United States and Israel.” On June 21, 2019, after Trump had called off military strikes against Iran for downing an American drone, Cheney compared Trump not attacking Iran to Barack Obama not attacking Syria in 2013.

@Michael Chomsky is consistent. He has always championed any nation or cause that opposes the U.S. and Israel. That’s why he’s an icon on the left, like the late Ramsey Clarke who also spoke at Workers World/All People’s Congress demonstrations and events. They support Russia, by the way, as they did in 1956 Hungary and 1968 Czechoslovakia. Though technically, he’s a libertarian socialist, which means anarchist.

True enough, but he speaks for a subset of Americans, not just antisemitic Jews, who would have cut their tongues out before describing Trump as a “statesman of significant stature”. This alone, ignoring the substance as to how it relates to Ukraine/Russia or peace/war, was a significant blink by an infamous member of the anti-Trump movement. I personally am repulsed by Chomsky due to his values, but many who see Trump as a modern return of Hitler and worse, will hold Chomsky in a much more favorable light. This was as earth moving as it was shocking.

In March of 2021, he said Trump’s foreign policy was indistinguishable from Biden’s. In July, 2020, he said Trump was a dictator enabling unlimited corporate power. Chomsky believes Israel should be destroyed. He is an enemy. Lavrov could have legitimately cited him aa an example of a prominent Jewish antisemite. His smears of Israel have geen biblical writ for leftists and neonazis alike for over 50 years.

It was a very regrettable decision by AIPAC to buckle under the anti-MAGA pressure to support Cheney.
Any supporters of Israel must focus there support on those American politicians who provide and endorse a solid bulwark against Israel’s enemies. Cheney’s decision to support the Dems against Trump marginalizes her support for Israel, and there is really no other way to interpret this situation. When Cheney voted to impeach Trump and has actively campaigned against him, supporting the absurd Jan 6 psyop, supporting the obvious election fraud, and supporting the illegitimate Trump impeachments(both of them), she seriously damaged herself as she was allying herself with the Dems who are very much opposed to Israel’s interests. Her narcissism betrayed her caucus, as it betrayed her constituency, and supported the illegitimate election that placed Israel in the situation in which she finds herself today dealing with Obama’s third term, and if Trump were to be on the ballot in 2024, Cheney would no doubt move to help spoil Trump’s attempt at a second term. It is beyond me how this would advantage Israel. Her displacement from her leadership role due to her poor choices to ignore the will of those she represents, have left her with only affecting the support that a single representative might bring to bear, and as such, she provides a greater obstacle to a pro-Israel agenda provided by Trump and his MAGA movement, of which she is an overly bold and outspoken opponent than she could ever present as a single pro-Israel representative.
