Survey: Majority of Israelis for Severe Sanctions Against Anti-Vaxxers

THAT DOESN’T MEAN THEY ARE RIGHT.

By David Israel, JP

Most Israelis are livid about the minority in their midst who refuse to roll up their sleeves and take the first, second, and third coronavirus vaccine, according to a survey conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) and published on Monday (Stabilizing the Economy and Combating COVID by Imposing Restrictions).

IDI describes itself as an independent center of research and action dedicated to strengthening the foundations of Israeli democracy. It’s generally considered to be a left-leaning think-tank.

Back to the enraged Israelis: 59% of them support banning the unvaccinated from public areas such as supermarkets and workplaces. 57% want to see them pay personally for their medical treatment (in a country where almost everybody is part of an HMO – DI).

But wait, there’s more: 51% of Israelis want unemployment payments yanked away from the unvaccinated who also refuse to be tested (those tests must be paid for by the unvaccinated unless they are children – DI).

Finally, brace yourselves: 30% of Israelis want unvaccinated individuals who contracted the coronavirus to be denied access to the ECMO machines that pump blood from the body and oxygenates it – allowing the heart and lungs to rest. If a vaccinated patient needs an ECMO, say 30% of survey respondents, he or she goes automatically ahead of the anti-vaxxers.

Ouch.

Incidentally, according to the survey, only a minority of the public thinks Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is waging the struggle against COVID-19 “appropriately.” Also, only a minority of the Israeli public views Bennett’s speech at the United Nations as good or excellent.

Yes, Israeli is a tough room these days.

Among the Jews, the prevailing perception is that the most important issue for the government in the coming year is stabilizing the economy. Among the Arabs, the top issue the government should address is the crime in Arab society.

Identical rates, each slightly less than half of the public, are optimistic about the future of Israel’s national security and the future of Israeli democracy. Meanwhile, a very large majority of the public sees low chances that in the next five years an accord will be signed with the Palestinian Authority.

So, harsh and realistic.

On the other hand, a majority of Israelis think the Abraham Accords have fulfilled their expectations.

Among Israeli Jews, more favor a military attack on Iran to prevent it from going nuclear than those who favor reaching an agreement with the Islamic Republic. Among Israeli Arabs, the distribution of preferences is the other way around: more support the idea of reaching an agreement than wish to “bomb, bomb Iran,” as the late Senator John McCain once put it, to the tune of the Beach Boys’ Barbara Ann (and was chastised at the time, boy, how the world has changed).

  1. Reader, it will indeed take a miracle, but not “complete noncompliance”. Haman was defeated by one Jew’s steadfastness, and his niece’s courage. The same will happen to Haman Fauci.

    BTW the “unvaxed” are today’s “Jews”

    It all started nearly 30 years ago when the corporations took the US economy to China and left us with a fake economy which relies on foreign countries’ purchases of the US government bonds as their “best investment” thus financing everything the US government (which is owned by these corporations) wants to do (this is the reason for the huge government “debt” that was never meant to be repaid).

    It is glaringly obvious that a single person and even the whole population of the US is powerless to effect any change without a miracle from above or a complete noncompliance which is another term for a miracle.

  3. Skeezix:
    Actually it is working the way they want!
    See what is going on in this country (US). First stealing the elections!
    Now the DOJ & FBI at the request of the TU (Teachers Union) may lock parents away and take their civil rights away!
    But it all started nearly thirty years ago with a failed megalomaniac woman.

  4. Beware the tyranny of the majority

    The right of the majority to rule is not, and never has been, an absolute right.

    From the birth of democracy in Greece about 3500 years ago, it was clearly understood that the majority must always rule in the interests of the community as a whole, not merely the majority themselves. To do so was known as the Tyranny of the Majority and was recognised as a fatal anathema to democracy itself.

    The Greeks also discovered very early in the development of democracy that any elected body without constraints could not be relied on to protect liberty and quickly became tyrannical dictators. As democracy evolved, restraints on majority ruling groups were developed to ensure elected representatives at all levels of government could be held to account, controlled and even dismissed from office by those they represented if the rights of minorities were denied.

    Included in these rules were inalienable rights of the individual which are supposed to be beyond the interference of the ruling democracy or even a ruling monarch. Several monarchs lost their crowns and the heads which held them for ignoring that rule.

    Presuming this poll is accurate, which is always a lot to presume about any poll, it may be informative, but it is irrelevant to the rights of those it casts as being in the minority. I am not sure of which has a more concerning tone in this survey, the questions or the answers.

    Ignoring the hobgoblins of Fake News possibilities, I have been watching the iMOH data with interest. There are a lot of details that I would like further access to, but there is a great deal to be gained by what they do share. In the past week, the number of people jumping in for the protection and benefits of the 3rd shot has increase by about 100K, even as the number of people who have two shots lies at nearly 2.5million more than have received the 2 shots. To explain that differently, 61% of the people who received the 2shots have had their 3rd shot, which leaves 39% still waiting.

    Additionally, the rate of vaccination has taken a marked decline about a month ago and the rate seems to be steady, but markedly lower. The rate was quite parallel to that in January til the beginning of Sept when it dropped precipitously. There must be a rationale for this change as it is quite distinct from the rate of vaccination in from the opening weeks of the 3rd Jab campaign, and there was no reduction in the vaccination rate in January to parallel this drop.

    Many things might have influenced this change, but I am curious if the Survey group might seek to do less damage to the public unity by pursuing something that is glaringly obvious in the data and which I have seen no explanation discussed among the journalist rags who are so keen to sew public discord and division with their malignant surveys, regardless of their veracity or lack thereof(more likely).

  5. It’s not like they questioned ALL the Israelis.

    When conducting surveys, they select several hundred people and ask them questions which were prepared in advance and require YES or NO answers.

    Then they extrapolate the results on the whole population with the assumption that their sample reflects the whole population (is representative of it).

    This process usually has several built-in biases:

    1) the sample is probably not representative;

    2) the way the questions are formulated may be biased;

    3) the YES/NO answer requirement precludes options;

    4) it is a known fact that questionnaires are the worst way to do research but for some reason it remains extremely popular.

    I really hope that all of the above biases influenced the results in this case and that the true desires of the population of Israel are not reflected in this survey.

  6. It all depends upon…………,
    Who is paying for the survey!
    And as far as the Jerusalem Post (they are Israel’s N.Y. Times,Fake News on Demand(by the guys with Deep pockets)

  7. Keep doing what is so obviously not working…
    Makes good sense..
    I thought Israelis were smarter than this???
    Who has one of the highest Vaccination Rates in the world?
    Who has a skyrocketing Covidian rate?
