  1. @Marsha .roseman

    I am not going to buy their stuff, either, BUT

    1) you cannot possibly avoid EVERYTHING produced by Unilever;

    2) like I said, IF this marketing trick of theirs works as intended (and it might not, who knows), 12 or so million Jews not buying their stuff is a drop in the bucket (so they think) compared to the hundreds of millions clamoring for their stuff (which they will have to supply PDQ, of course, and they may not be able to).

    Maybe they are not as clever as I give them credit for – we’ll see what happens next.

    I doubt that all the Jews in the world or even most of them will boycott Ben & Jerry (even though they should).

  2. Sorry, but no more Ben and Jerry’s for us forever and we love their ice cream. Unilever produces Dove soap and Lipton tea BTW. Boycotts work both ways.

  3. I am positive that Ben & Jerry’s “ideological stance” on the “illegal occupation by Israel of the Palestinian territories” is nothing but a cost/benefit calculation designed to explode the size of their market among the Muslims and the Arabs (and among many others who “are not antisemitic”).

    There are 315 million Muslims in the ME, and 1.5 billion Muslims in the world.

    If all the Jews in the world boycott Ben & Jerry, it won’t hurt the company (if their marketing trick works).

    I think Israel’s freaking out about it just gave the company tons of free advertising.

  4. Interesting interview. I would hope he is able to pursue legal challenge to this matter, but franchises are a largely a rigged deck of cards, of course, not all are, but I suspect Ben & Jerrys franchise contracts likely would be such a rigged pack of cards. I hope everyone in Israel would continue to support Ben & Jerrys, Israel, while I also hope Ben & Jerry’s Intl feels a great deal of pain.
