IDF International Spokesperson Jonathan Conricus on Monday evening provided an update on the situation in Israel after dozens of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel.

“Since 6:00 p.m. this evening, Hamas and other Palestinian organizations have fired dozens of rockets at Israeli civilians in Jerusalem and in communities in southern Israel around the Gaza Strip,” he said.

“We see this as a severe attack against Israel, an attack that will not go unanswered. We hold Hamas responsible and we are prepared for various scenarios,” added Conricus.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit updated that, as of 11:20 p.m., about 150 rockets had been fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory.

The air defense fighters intercepted dozens of rockets.

Meanwhile, IDF fighter jets destroyed a Hamas offensive terrorist tunnel in the Gaza Strip. Several terrorists were killed in the attack.

Earlier, the Israel Air Force attacked a number of Hamas terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip, in response to the rocket attacks.

Among the targets attacked by the IDF: two rocket launchers, two military posts and eight Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

    Burned vehicles in Lod
Gangs of Arab rioters roamed the streets of Lod on Tuesday evening, following the funeral of the Arab man who was shot dead during Arab riots in the city the previous night, damaging property belonging to Jews and pelting vehicles with rocks.

A 56-year-old man was seriously injured after his vehicle was pelted with rocks in the city. Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated him to Assaf Harofeh Hospital.

In addition, dozens of vehicles belonging to Jews were set on fire, as was a synagogue in the city.

Lod Mayor Yair Revivo commented on the riots in his city and said, “Hundreds of Arab rioters are raging, civil war has broken out. I appealed to the Prime Minister to impose a curfew and declare a state of emergency on the city. Lack of governance. Rioters throwing firebombs.”

In the wake of the violence, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Tuesday evening and the two agreed to immediately transfer Border Police brigades from Judea and Samaria to Lod.

“Border Police battalions from Judea and Samaria will now be transferred to Lod immediately. We will restore law and order in Lod and all parts of the country,” Netanyahu tweeted.

Meanwhile, riots also took place in the city of Acre. A restaurant and a hotel next to it were set on fire. Hundreds of guests at a hostel were evacuated after the rioters threw firebombs at the hostel.

Arabs with Israeli citizenship 20 per cent of Israel’s population. But thoroughly disloyal and a very dangerous fifth column. This will prove to be an extremely difficult internal security problem to solve.

  2. Israel strategy is to hurt Hamas by destroying its infrastructure and hitting its leaders and fighters when they are not protected by the proximity of civilians. Israel has turned down several requests for ceasefire from Hamas.

Hamas miscalculated because Bibi can not agree to a quick ceasefire this time as before because it would benefit his political opponents and be viewed as a Hamas victory. That said the Israeli strategy is not enough because it only aims to hurt Hamas and not to defeat it.

This round Hamas rockets have heavier payloads than in the past and they have learned how to shoot 40 rockets at one time (that is how they hit Ashkelon). Every round they get better weapons. IDF has stopped several airstrikes because civilians were close to the Hamas terrorists or targets. Israel has killed numerous terrorists and likely will kill many more plus hurt Hamas and Islamic Jihad but Israel is only buying time until the next conflict.

  3. Israel is in very deep trouble . Israelis in Ashdod and Ashkelon have already suffered heavy casualties, some casualties in Jersalem as well. The situation is likely to much worse before it gets better–if ever.

I know that most of you are not religious, as I try to be. But neverleless please join me in parayers for Israel.
