  1. I’m surprised that such a question should be asked, let alone made a big news item. It’s been known for many years, ever since the idea was first broached, that building that dam would cause incalculable harm down-river to Egypt, which depends almost entirely on a free flowing NIle, and has, since a civilisation sprang up around the Delta, many thousands of year s ago. The River was even regarded as a major God, giving life to the whole population. If the rainfall was poor thousands of miles up-river, the Egyptians starved, due to lack of the life-giving loam washed down yearly. Their crops failed. Egypt was known as “The Bread Basket” of the Roman Empire, due to the fertility of it’s fields bordering on the Nile.

We read about it in The Torah, with the Stroy of “Joseph and his Brethern”

In fact the whole country is only a thin ribbon of population on both sides of the River and of course, the Delta.

In modern times the Nile River has become a world-class status symbol………

I believe that unless it can be devised that the Nile flow will be mainly undiminished, it may be a “causus belli”.
