Data Shows Where Israelis Contract the Coronavirus

Weekly data provided to the coronavirus Knesset committee shows that only very few Israelis get ill after visiting beaches, pools or bars

By Jonathan Lis, HAARETZ

According to Health Ministry data, schools, events and places of worship were the three top places where COVID-19 patients contracted the virus in the past week.

According to a breakdown of 727 people who know where they were infected between July 10 and July 16, around a third, or 210, contracted the virus in educational institutions, 123 were infected at events, and 106 in religious institutions.

Places where infection was detected

Another 89 were infected in entertainment venues – out of those, only 11 were infected at bars, with the rest at restaurants and coffee shops.

Only four were found to have contracted the virus at pools or the beach, which are to be closed permanently and on weekends, respectively.

The data does not include those that were infected by a member of their household.

According to the data, which was provided to a Knesset committee responsible for the coronavirus response on Sunday, a total of 7,998 people tested positive for coronavirus, and contact tracing was able to identify the place of infection for just over a quarter of them, 2,227 in total.

Detractors of the newly announced government measures restricting Israelis’ movements in an attempt to curb a renewed coronavirus outbreak have contended that some measures, like the closure of beaches and pools, are not based in epidemiological data analysis.

  1. @ Reader:

No that’s not true, I did not imply openly or otherwise that older people are a burden….although in many cases they are…but this is part of natural aging, and expected by all, although inconvenient to the selfish. I myself am amongst this category, and I’m sure my daughter is highly inconvenienced, but accepts it, being a part of family living.

I already SHOWED that, assuming your “independent”, perverse, attitude, if resulting in infection, would be costing the State, in manpower, scarce medical resources, etc. depriving others who became ill through circumstances beyond their control (but not beyond YOURS)… Your whole paragraph is complete nonsense and OFF THE POINT I make.
    .
The deeper you get into THIS discussion, the further you stray from the point I made…. Perhaps a temporary lapse of logic, and an excess of hyperbole…??

You are purposely misunderstanding my point, or have the “failing common-sense” , dictating your hardly apposite response.

  2. @ Edgar G.:
I don’t want anybody to follow my suggestions.
I want to have a free choice about what to do with MY life and health.
Not every older person is high risk, anyway, they cannot all be treated the same.
I AM NOT GOVERNMENT PROPERTY to be “secured”, “quarantined”, medicated, vaccinated against my will, etc.
If other people feel that THEY ARE – it’s their problem, or desire, or pleasure, or whatever.
    IT IS THEIR CHOICE.
    LET ME HAVE MINE!
Your other comment assumes that older people are a burden undeserving of “valuable medical aid and space, as well as causing extra cost” – well, why not just euthanize them instead of causing them pain and suffering for the rest of their lives by treating them like lepers and outcasts without civil rights, and like lab animals for vaccine testing.
It would certainly remove the “burden” and save the taxpayers money.
THIS VIRUS IS NOT THE PLAGUE!

  3. READER- I should have also mentioned that if elders follow your suggestions, there is an increased chance that they will become ill, absorbing valuable medical aid and space, as well as causing extra cost… which is becoming a governmental concern.

  4. @ Reader:

READER- I believe you to be wrong in all your unwarranted assumptions. Many older (and indeed younger-because of lack of understanding their own frailty-and stupidity) )people have still not come to terms with the seriousness of the disease and the REAL neccessity to follow the Govt. instructions TO THE LETTER. Many older people are not FIT mentally and sociologically to make these decisions.

Throughout the ages, the ONLY method that worked (to some degree) when plague struck, was isolation, even abandonment of dead dear ones. Nothing works in plagues like distancing, and intense care regarding handling possibly infected items.

You for instance, to make such an assertion as you have done, show yourself to be less than fitted to do so. Some age, and become smarter- because of accumulation of experience,…others deteriorate in their common-sense thinking…

  5. Older people must be able to choose for themselves whether to be “secured” or not (the same with vaccinations).
Just because you reach a certain age, doesn’t mean you turn into a piece of luggage or other mindless property to be folded, bent, and mutilated (and injected with experimental substances) at some bureaucrat’s say-so.
The bureaucrat only does it, of course, because he cares so much about your health and longevity that he wants you to sacrifice whatever normal life and relationships you happen to have left.

  6. @ Bear Klein:
“Older people should be secured and those with pre-existing conditions until a vaccine is found”

Thanks a whole heap, Bear. What you said is NOT what I wanted to hear… but you are probably right.

(“You are probably right” is one of those things that are extremely hard to say. Another is “Worchestershire sauce”)

I just followed an extremely good presentation about COVID-19 by Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad:

    https://www.realvision.com/shows/the-interview/videos/inside-the-covid-19-vaccine-project

I don’t know how long we can keep people “secured” before they go bat crap crazy — expecially when 1. half the country is already lulu, and 2. there’s an election in November. This promises to be a very interesting year.

    Shalom shalom 🙂

  7. Educational Institutions in Israel are NOT just elementary schools but include higher education and Yeshivot.

  8. Some studies in other countries have revealed little or no evidence of a risk of catching CV-2 from children. I regard these claims by the Israeli Health Ministry as suspect.Adam

  9. It would seem except for large crowds or gatherings (e.g. soccer stadiums, basketball games…..etc). It would make sense to have the economy open with using things like masks and keeping limits on large in-door gatherings.

Outdoors if social distancing is practiced is relatively safe. Schools should be open with masks but keeping elderly teachers away or those with known pre-existing conditions.

Older people should be secured and those with pre-existing conditions until a vaccine is found and/or proven treatments for Covid-19. Many doctors agree with the formula I have described. Total lock-downs are not needed and just cause other problems such as economic distress.

  10. I checked on the “World Population” web site for their estimate of Israel deaths from influenza and pneumonia for the rmost recent year for which they have information. which is 2016. In that year, about 2,400 Israelis died of thee diseases! So far, Israel’s reported deaths from coronavirus total 400. Even if that number doubles by the end of 2020, the total number of deaths will still be only a third of those lost to influenza and pneumonia only four years ago. Remember also that most alleged cv-2 victims died not directly from the virus but from “complications” arising from it,–usually pneumonia.

Several Israelis have complained that the Health Department has withheld most of its data from the public, making it extremely difficult to form independent opinions about how and where one is likely to contract the virus, how prevalent and how deadly it actually is, etc.

  11. Why are we never told who is getting sick now? What age groups? Just telling us that there is a “spike” or the # of cases is “soaring” is completely meaningless and only adds to the atmosphere of fear and it also stinks politically.

  12. Only 7.2% contacted the disease at nursing homes and medical situations, the venues frequented by the “most vulnerable” populations that account for the vast majority of deaths. Keeping children from swimming at pools is not going to help those old folks. This whole pandemic has a great political stink to it; and the odor is “Eau des Démocrates”.
