Turkey’s Hagia Sophia: “It’s Like If Saint Peter’s Had Been Turned Into a Mosque”

These words by the great humanist, Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who became Pope Pius II, were written five centuries ago, after the great Christian city of Constantinople fell to the Ottomans.

Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued an unprecedented decree converting Hagia Sophia once again into a mosque. Erdogan’s decree is a gesture of immense symbolism and historic meaning. “A threat against Hagia Sophia,” said the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, “is a threat for the whole of Christian civilization”.

  1. Erdogan to Turn Istanbul Airport into a Mosque

    After successfully turning Hagia Sophia into a mosque, Turkish President and Middle Eastern Gollum look-alike, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced he now plans to convert the recently opened Istanbul Airport into a Muslim house of worship.

    Erdogan proposed handing the airport over to the Religious Affairs Directorate, which would close the $12 billion hub to air traffic and instead create a nearly 19,000-acre zone of worship.

    “I did not spend 80 billion liras on a new airport just to tell Muslims ‘You cannot pray here, we need it for globalists and infidels to come into the country,’” Erdogan said at a press conference. “If you care more about airplanes and suitcases than Allah and the Quran, then you have no place coming to Turkey.”

    The decision did not sit well with investors in the project, who are unsure how the mosque will recoup the project costs. International institutions including the World Bank and International Monetary Fund have also expressed concern. But Erdogan seems determined to push ahead and hinted that he might not stop at the airport.

    “Turkey will not be free from meddling Westerners until every church, airport, restaurant, hotel and porta potty in the country has been turned into a place for Muslims to worship,” he said. “I will stop at nothing to make this a reality.”

    A man was arrested for allegedly driving through the front door of a church in Ocala, Florida, and setting it on fire with several people inside over the weekend.

    “The Marion County Sheriff’s Office charged Steven Shields, 23, on Saturday, hours after detectives say he plowed a minivan through the front door of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, doused the foyer with gasoline and set it on fire, causing extensive damage,” according to the Associated Press (AP).

    “Several church members were inside the building preparing for Mass when the attack occurred, the report noted….suspect Steven Anthony Shields said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is not taking his medication,” according to the Ocala Star-Banner.”

    Not terrorism, not a hate crime; just nuts. Oh well. I suppose Erdogan is also nuts.

  5. Erdogan with this action plus his speech about Spain plus taking control of Al Akasa away from Israel is indicating he wants to create a Neo-Ottoman Empire. Also his military actions in the middle east plus North Africa are part of his plan.
