According to a report on Kan Reshet Bet, senior officials in Blue and White acknowledge in internal talks that the party will have difficulty obtaining the majority needed to form a minority government that relies on the support of the Joint List.

The difficulty Blue and White Chair Benny Gantz is expected to encounter lies in opposition to the move from MKs Yoaz Hendel and Zvika Hauser of his party.

The two, reports Kan, are expected to face heavy pressure over the next few days to support the process.

Kan mentioned that Hendel and Hauser were the ones who halted Blue and White’s attempt after the previous elections to promote a plan for a minority government with outside support from the Joint List.

At the same time, a group of MKs in the party is trying to promote a unity government with Likud. According to sources in Blue and White, Gabi Ashkenazi supports the move for unity, along with MKs Orit Farkash Hacohen, Yoaz Hendel, Hili Tropper, Zvika Hauser, and others.

  1. So Yaalon told Hauser & Hendel to resign if they can not support a minority government. They can kick them out of the party but NOT the Knesset. So if they kick them out of the party they will stay as independents in Knesset. On most issues these two men see eye to eye with the right-wing. They ONLY do NOT like Bibi at all.

So if this occurs and they get kicked out of Blue/White then ONLY ONE MORE Knesset member would need to be found to give Likud a majority or at least voting support. This is why for the Knesset about to be voted in I do think it would stupid of the Blue/White to kick them out of the party. They might before the fourth elections assuming they occur but then B/W will lose votes of some right-wingers.

  2. The more the Arab MKs from the Joint List talk publicly about more and more demands to Gantz the less likely this will happen. They are making it easier for Hauser and Hendel to stick to their guns refusing to agree to coalition based on a deal with the Arab Joint List.

If we get lucky somehow maybe Blue/White will bicker so much internally that enough of them leave and join the Likud in a right/wing government.

  3. More than half of Gantz supporters oppose minority government

A public opinion poll indicated that over half of Gantz supporters oppose a coalition with the Joint List.

This is NOT surprising. Hopefully in the next election these voters will change their votes.

  4. Looks like a fourth election will occur unless something foreseen occurs.

Blue and White party chairman Benny Gantz, along with other senior members of the centrist alliance, is reportedly livid over the opposition of two MKs from the party’s right-wing flank to the formation of a minority government that will rely on the outside support of the majority-Arab Joint List.

Those fuming include MK Moshe Ya’alon, who chairs Blue and White’s Telem sub-faction, Channel 12 news reported Sunday. While Ya’alon has warmed to the idea of a minority government as the only way to remove Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and prevent a fourth election, two other Telem MKs, Zvi Hauser and Yoaz Hendel, do not feel the same.

Ya’alon on Sunday held a meeting in Tel Aviv with the two rebel lawmakers, whom Gantz reportedly accused of having prevented him from taking the same path after the last election. According to Channel 13, the conversation turned heated and yelling could be heard from the other side of the door.

On Sunday evening, a group of teenagers from a pre-military academy protested outside of Hendel’s home, calling on him to resist pressure to form a Joint List-backed government. The protesters were from the Lachish program, which is run by the husband Sarah Beck, a member of the right-wing Yamina party.

In footage from the demonstration, Hendel could be seen going outside to meet the protesters, serving them tea and urging them to pressure other lawmakers to form a Likud-Blue and White unity government.

“Unity is an existential need,” Hendel tweeted above a post reporting on the protest.

Regardless, Gantz directed his coalition negotiators to prepare for talks with the Joint List to form a unity government, Channel 12 reported.

The network separately quoted officials in the Joint List fuming at Gantz over the centrist party’s efforts to conceal its cooperation with the majority-Arab party.

“Either we enter negotiations with Gantz through the front door or we don’t enter at all,” said one Joint List MK, according to the channel.

“They must talk to us in the same manner in which they talk to other parties. There will not be deals inked in dark rooms,” the official added, saying the party would abide being made “a punching bag” when it was politically expedient for Blue and White MKs.
