Poll: American sympathy for Israel over PA lowest in decade

21% of Americans sympathize with PA over Israel, according to new Gallup poll.

Sympathy among Americans for Israel in the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict” is at its lowest in a decade, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday.

The results, based on Gallup’s annual World Affairs survey conducted every February, indicated that 59% of Americans sympathize with Israel over the Palestinian Authority (PA), down from 64% in 2018 and the lowest percentage favoring Israel since 2009. On the other hand, 21% sympathize with the PA, the same as a year ago and the highest since 2001 by one point.

According to the poll, Republican sympathy for Israel over the PA fell from an all-time high of 87% last year to 76% today, while Democratic sympathy fell less sharply from 49% last year to 43% today. However, the poll showed Democratic sympathy to be at its lowest since 2005.

The poll also found that “conservative Republicans” have the highest net sympathy for Israel (percentage of support for Israel minus percentage of support for the PA), followed by “moderate/liberal Republicans” and then “moderate/conservative Democrats,” with “liberal Democrats” showing the lowest net sympathy.

Most of the decline in net sympathy for Israel has taken place among liberal Democrats, from +17 in 2013-2016 to +3 in 2017-2019. Nearly as many liberal Democrats now sympathize with the PA, 38%, as do with Israel, 41%.

The gap between the net sympathy for Israel among Republicans and Democrats has been widening, with net sympathy for Israel increasing among both Republican groups and decreasing among both Democratic groups.

Gallup noted that the latest poll was taken before Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s recent comments suggesting that support for Israel amounted to “allegiance to a foreign country.”

  1. @ rongrand:
    HI, Ron

I agree with you and Bear. Your observation that:

” it was hijacked by the extreme liberal left aided by anti-Semite Geo Soros and company and supported by the liberal media. They want to flood the nation with illegals who will vote in their favor and it’s not a pretty picture. Just look at the rise of Muslim influence spreading throughout Europe, thus we see the rise in anti-Semitism and we need to stop it in its’ tracks. It needs to be called out by each and every one of us.”

really caught my eye. During the 1960s, the Northern, industrial and immigrant wing of the Dem. part eclipsed the Southern Conservatives of Strom Thurmond, Geo. Wallace, etc. What has happened since 2016, has been an ousting of the pro-labor Dems of the Kennedy & Humphrey years, and their replacement by entirely new, “New World Order” agenda with a vision to change not just the US, but the world, into an Orwellian nightmare state.

I hope US Jews will wake up and begin to smell the coffee. This new tyrrany-in-the-making is aimed squarely at them.

  2. Folks, unfortunately, Democrats fail to realize their party is no longer the party of H Truman and JFK, it was hijacked by the extreme liberal left aided by anti-Semite Geo Soros and company and supported by the liberal media. They want to flood the nation with illegals who will vote in their favor and it’s not a pretty picture. Just look at the rise of Muslim influence spreading throughout Europe, thus we see the rise in anti-Semitism and we need to stop it in its’ tracks. It needs to be called out by each and every one of us.

The world needs to know, there is only one state, the Sovereign Jewish Nation of Israel, its capital, Jerusalem.

The world also needs to recognize the Palestinians are no more than an anti-Semitic tool used to terrorize Israel and her people. Enough is enough and all aid of every kind afforded to them need to cease. They are controlled by Hamas the proxy of Iran.

This is a serious matter, don’t take it lightly.

  3. @ Laura:
“This is because the democrats are increasingly anti-Israel and anti-Semitic.”

    …which begs two questions:

    1. Why are the Democrats becoming so anti-semitic, and

    2. Why are so many people still Democrats.

The trend these past few years has been definitely in the direction of the average American becoming more anti-Jewish and anti-Israel, though the poll did also indicate that America is becoming polarized on this issue, along party lines.

The reasons for the decline of support for the Jews and their homeland may be:

    1. Increasingly biased media coverage,
    2. Americans being less exposed to pro-Jewish and pro-Israel teaching (mainly in the Bible), and
    3. The emergence of a new generation that is increasingly disconnected with true facts and sound reasoning skills.

Whatever the reasons for it, the results are unsettling.

  4. A mountain over a molehill. Tiny fluctuations in a poll. In addition, liberal Democrats tend to be Socialists who are in marriage of convenience with Muslim anti-Semites on a basis of diversity and multiculturism.

  5. Tiny fluctuations – a mountain over a molehill. Liberal democrats tend to be Socialists and anti-Semitic, in any event. They form a marriage of convenience of diversity and multicultarism with Muslim anti-Semites.
