T. Belman. I think the cat is out of the bag and that the plan will be the issue. I think that is a good thing. Remember Jordan is not included in the Plan. Nobody is talking about Jordan. That’s because its not part of the plan.
President Donald Trump is asking Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to build his campaign around the “Deal of the Century” for an Israeli-Palestinian peace, DEBKAfile reports exclusively.
This insistent request keeps on coming up in contacts with Washington, including Netanyahu’s conversation with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brazil on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The peace plan’s authors, the president’s advisers Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, have been placed on standby for finally going public on their product in the near future.
In recent consultations at the White House, in which US ambassador to Israel David Friedman also participated, the president was advised that publication of the peace plan would not be good for the prime minister and his Likud’s chances and it would be better to wait until after the April 9 election. Trump, however, stood by his demand and put forward the following arguments for an early date of publication:
Making it a central feature of Netanyahu’s campaign would reuse the general election as a kind of referendum for its popular endorsement.
Building a new coalition cabinet after the vote could be a drawn-out process consuming several months.
As a focal of the prime minister’s bid for re-election, the plan would fit in well with his plans for visits in the critical months of February and March of a string of world leaders, including Arab heads of government, to showcase his successes as minister of foreign affairs and defense.
Trump believes that knowing the peace plan for the Palestinians was imminent would provide Arab leaders, especially in the Gulf, with an added incentive to make state visits to Israel or invite Netanyahu to visit their capitals.
Some of Trump’s advisers suggested as a compromise that just sections of the peace plan be released at this stage, not the entire opus.
They hoped that Trump would be deterred from losing patience and turning to Twitter to unveil his plan, with the same abruptness as the US troop pullback from Syria last month.
He could do this in a series of tweets.
On Tuesday, Jan. 1, Israel’s party strategists were engrossed in calculating how the Trump peace plan landing in the middle of the election campaign would affect their prospects.
This scenario appeared more pressing even than Labor leader Avi Gabbay’s sudden dumping of Tzipi Livni which was making waves.
They also treated as a flash in the pan, media reports, soon to be denied, claiming that AG Avichai Mendelblit had conferred with a flock of ex-prosecutors and legal whizzes on how to handle the cases against Bibi.
@ adamdalgliesh:
I think your post is just right on the mark. I used to always check them out, until I found they were speculating instead of reporting. They talked largely about their “their military correspondents”… and etc.etc. but this must have been how they built themselves into a real news gathering org. I’ll say this…they persevered, and now they are respectable and worth reading.
@ Ted Belman:
You didn’t but others have calling for the internationalization of the Holy Basin

SEEMS THE pALIS HAVE MADE UP FUNDS TRUMP HAS WITHHELD FROM OTHER SOURCES.
Israel still paying them tax rebates keeping them alive.
It could be Trump has little leverage over them today but does have a lot of leverage over Israel…. That leads me to believe that Israel will be made to make the most concessions and the most negative concessions to Trump and his plan.

I like to say,
“DEBKA is sometimes true, sometimes false; but ALWAYS first!” 🙂
@ adamdalgliesh:
Debka does intentional dis-information at times mixed in real articles. So yes they have stuff that do not turn out true!
I don’t know how reliable Debka is. It was thoroughly unreliable when it fist began to be published in the early 2000s. It reported before the American invasion of Iraq that Iraq had invaded Jordan. There was never any confirmation from any other source. It repeatedly announced where Saddam Hussein’s WMDs were hidden, giving numerous different locations at different times, but no WMDs were ever found at any of these locations. It claimed that President Bush was 100 per cent behind Israel’s anti-terror “invasion” of PLO controlled territory in 2003, and that U.S. Marines had even participated in the operation. Again, not confirmed by any other source. The list could go on and on.
On the other hand, its reporting has become more respected in the last few years. Some legitimate Israeli news sites now broadcast their reports and interview their reporters.
This from Daled Amos, in today’s Elder of Ziyon
I have just read the DEBKA article about the plan. The following seems interesting:
“As a focal of the prime minister’s bid for re-election, the plan would fit in well with his plans for visits in the critical months of February and March of a string of world leaders, including Arab heads of government, to showcase his successes as minister of foreign affairs and defense. Trump believes that knowing the peace plan for the Palestinians was imminent would provide Arab leaders, especially in the Gulf, with an added incentive to make state visits to Israel or invite Netanyahu to visit their capitals.”

This is an element no previous peace plan has included. It might be a gambit worth venturing for Netanyahu, reaching out to “Middle Israel”, if such a thing excists. It might also be a winning gambit for President Trump, who may desperately need a big show like this in a few months. It would certainly be a masterpiece for rising star Jared Kushner.
@ yamit82:
I said nothing about the internationalization of Jerusalem. Nobody has.
I have not read the Plan but I believe Liberman’s description of it is correct because it aligns with mine.
yamit82 Said:
When I say something is happening, it is not speculation on my part. I merely am repeating what Mudar tells me. He is in the know.
Bear Klein Said:
That Ted does not reply when asked or pinned down for source and or reliability of his claims, shows he is no more linked into the plan than any of us….. I think more than a Jordan option an Egyptian option is more logical and likely. Arabs from the WB can move to an enlarged more economically prosperous Gaza than remaing in the WB.
Note: Palis security arrested to 60 Hamas leaders in WB and it seems the purge will continue.
@ Ted Belman:
Internationalization of Jerusalem concept??? Been there done that Haaaaa
@ Ted Belman:
Ted, Have you personally read Trumps plan?
Bear Klein Said:
Why do you introduce Jerusalem partition.. I told you Jerusalem is not to be divided. Liberman described the plan made no mention of Jerusalem. Everything Liberman said I said before in my article Trump’s Deal of the Century. Isn’t that confirmation enough for you?
If a Plan that breaks up Jerusalem into parts and has a Pal State and Bibi supports this The New Right Party will get a lot more Likud votes!
Bibi asked Pompeo in Brazil that plan is NOT released during the election season. So hearings for Bibi on indicting him one big problem and second big problem would a controversial peace plan.
Likud will be shaking in their boots! Unless they campaign against the plan and piss off Trump!
plan could also be downfall for nutunyahoo as party leader. to bring this up during election would mean his accepting it as is?
the only peace deal should be the 3 no’s, ‘no recognition of arab state on JEWISH land, no negotiation with terror leader, no Jordanian arab gets ISRAELI citizenship or land ownership.’
