  1. @ Ted Belman:
Mazaltov. And I suppose she dragged her old man and family after her…. Again Mazaltov

I wanted to come with a few friends who were going in 1948 but was studying and my parents wouldn;t let me go. I was so aggressive that It’d likely I’d have been picked off the first day.

  2. My daughter Aliza, was also a lone soldier. She came to Israel to complete her undergraduate degree and could have waiting until she was 25 before making aliyah.

She chose to make aliya without waiting and signed up for a 3 year stint in the IDF.

  3. @ david melech:
She is not the First but certainly worthy of high praise.

Israeli soldiers have families to go home to on holidays and leave days, she will not have parents to go to. Israelis have parents and friends who can help them navigate all the bureaucracy and difficulties that come up in Israel. It is not actually easy.

It is actually a sincere act not done for financial rewards but love of country and Zionism.

  4. in fact looking again at the headline what is she giving up? her family is still her family, she keeps her degree, will she continue to live in ISRAEL in eighteen months time?
sorry i’m not trying to be the devils advocate but she’s not the first to do this mitzvah.

  5. very nice a doer not just a talker, should embarrass some ISRAELI Politian’s whos kids did a runner instead of service. be well, come out strong, follow many American girls who did IDF and came out stronger for it.
