Report claims US peace plan focuses on ‘regional normalization’ between Israel and Arab world, makes no demands of either Israel, PA
The Trump administration is preparing to unveil its much-anticipated Middle East peace plan, one which is expected to include a radically different approach from other plans promoted by world leaders seeking to broker a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
According to a report by Channel 2 Sunday night which cited senior US officials, the new Middle East peace plan now being drawn up by the Trump administration will not focus solely on the Arab-Israeli conflict, but will look to lay the groundwork for “regional normalization” between the Jewish state and the Arab world at large – deemphasizing final status talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
Unlike past plans pushed by the US, France, UK, and the Middle East Quartet – a body including representatives o the US, United Nations, European Union, and Russia – the US will not make any demands of either Israel or the PA, but instead will attempt to facilitate final status talks between the two sides, encouraging negotiations rather than imposing a framework for an agreement. US officials specifically stated that the Trump White House wishes to avoid a “take it or leave it” approach to peace talks.
Trump administration officials emphasized that the White House has no plans to impose a timetable for an agreement, and “won’t impose an agreement on the two sides”.
White House officials say they believe PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is serious about establishing a legacy, and is prepared to reach a deal with Israel.
“If the situation was different, we wouldn’t be wasting so much time and resources in the area,” one official said.
The officials also noted that the White House remains sensitive to Israel’s security needs, as communicated by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to the Trump administration.
I get it. No pressure on anybody and this will open the door to a deal. You got to be kidding me. Left to their own devices, nothing will happen. That’s what Trump wants. This way he is absolved of the charge of doing nothing. becuase he is there to help.
This is key. Big things are afoot.
Essentially he said goodbye to Abbas and the PA. The focus is elsewhere. This plan is true to the resolution passed at the GOP convention in JUly 2016. The door is wide open to possibilities.
Abbas’s legacy is already made. A trail of death and his destiny is the fires of hell.
To state that Abbas seeks peace is ridiculous and illogical. Shame on the White House for making such a suggestion considering the past actions of this dreadful specimen of human greed, evil and depravity.
Abbas’s legacy is already well-advanced in the making: a holocaust-denying, murderous antisemite…. It will take a lot to turn that around….
Bypassing Abbas has a much better prospect of success.
They say that Abbas wants ti establish his legacy and is sincere in wanting to reach peace with Israel….. The terrorist in the suit…. the financier of the Munich Olympic massacres, the rejection of numerous peace offers…. The thief who, with his cronies, stole multi billios of aid money supposed to have been for the benefit for the YESHA Arabs. Who eradicated all mention of Israel except as a monster enemy who must be destroyed, from the school textbooks, who encourages terrorist murders by waving a monthly stipend for life under the noses of the sub-normally-intelligent brainwashed Arab cretins…who…who…who
Words fail me. But Mr. Trump, if he’s serious, and has not already years ago made up his mind about the spurious and non-existent credentials of the YESHA Arabs, and the Arab People in general, loses my respect and confidence.
I still await the explanation for his abysmal behaviour re the Hurds..
