Analysis of public discourse online reveals overwhelming majority defend the soldier who was filmed shooting a wounded terrorist.
An analysis of the public discourse online regarding the IDF soldier who last Thursday was filmed shooting a wounded terrorist in Hevron has found an overwhelming majority of Israelis back the soldier.
A full 82% of the sentiments posted online from last Thursday up until Sunday morning at 11 a.m. were in support of the soldier, according to the company Buzzilla that specializes in analyzing social networks. The results were published by Channel 2 on Sunday.
The soldier is currently being tried in a military court on charges of murder, after an activist of the radical leftist NGO B’Tselem filmed him shooting the terrorist mere minutes after the latter stabbed and wounded a soldier. The soldier has argued he shot the terrorist over concerns he was about to detonate a bomb belt that was thought to be hidden under his unseasonable coat.
Since the incident broke last Thursday, the Buzzilla analysis found that social networks in Israel – primarily Facebook – have been filled with groups supporting the soldier. There are at least 20 such groups that have been started, with a rapid rate of joining at over 13,000 members.
In addition a petition has been launched backing the soldier, and already 37,000 people have signed onto it.
Buzzilla checked what people were writing on the comment sections of news sites, forums, blogs, and social networks. A sample was selected from the results representing the ratio between each platform that was examined.
A sample of discussions was checked, with each discussion consisting of the string of comments from the first post to the last post, and each discussion was individually read and analyzed.
The major reasons given by those supporting the soldier were phrases such as: “when someone comes to kill you kill him first,” “the IDF has to back its soldiers 100%,” “the soldier feared a threat from the terrorist (a bomb belt),” and “they’re giving the soldier a lynching, they have to wait for the trial.”

see, someone gets it… and those no rights include no right to due process…LOL
it is not just that they fear criticism of the enemy foreigners… they are in cahoots with them, deceiving Jews and the Israeli public. It is clear that BB and Yaalon have done everything they can to remove YS from Jewish settlement outside the ghetto boundaries of the major existing blocks. The foreigners know whats going on but the Israeli public is deceived. Its not error, fear or misunderstanding… it is policy. that is why BB must keep control of all things to do with those subjects. Notice that BB never does anything in reply to all the euro stalking of the jews with their labeling, their libels, their buildings… he is their partner in crime. J’accuse… I have been right before and I am right now… I gave him every benefit for years until it became impossible to reject the overwhelming repeated facts of his complicity. To know why one must know the story of “Breaker Morant” and why the Brits sacrificed him for the treaty with the Boers PLUS there is the obvious deal he expects with the arabs and the Nobel. BB knows best and for now Jews will have to eat the crow he serves them.
even if he shot the terrorist in cold blood I would back him because he is fighting the war of the jew against the enemies whereas the leadership fights the war of the enemies against the Jews.
The only time I like Bush was when he said “you are with me or against me”…. this is a principle in need of application which is why I also support Trump.
All terrorists should be mandatorily killed except to be tortured first to get info. Why? Because his existence is a danger to me and my family.
Terrorist families should be killed. Why? Because they raised him and taught him that jews must be killed because they are sons of apes and pigs and that is a danger to my family and children. I prefer to err on the side of caution for MY family and I dont give one crapp for theirs. Trump agrees with that which is another reason why I support him. This is especially important in Israel where the culture of the family is complicit in the murder of Jews.
The sight of BB, yaalon, erdan and rivlin jumping up for the enemy in Duma and now again at least yaalon and BB makes me nauseous enough to despise them.
This is yet another betrayal by Netanyahu and his government of the Jewish people. They are responding as cowards who fear the criticism from our enemies. Netanyahu has reached the limits of his ability to govern. The current challenges are too much for him and it is time for new leadership more in tune with our Torah.
I’ve been trying to get my head around the question, “Who do these people – Netanyahu included – believe they are impressing with our so-called “superior morality”?”
I’m quite sure the folks in Hamas are singularly unimpressed even if they eagerly use the incident as part of their PR. From the average terrorist’s standpoint, better to be captured either before or after murdering a Jew, so that one can enjoy the courteous service available in the nice Israeli prisons, and be assured of ultimately a fairly quick release for some nefarious reason.
This is another example of the stupidity of the Israeli attitude of proclaiming how moral we are to the detriment of its own security. Similar to the jailing without evidence of settler youths in the Arab family arson case.
Give the solider a pat on the back and say “Kolakvod”! He killed a terrorist!
