Bill Introduced to Knesset to Cancel 2005 Disengagement from Gaza

JP UPDATES

The last elections brought many surprises, so it should be anticipated that even more surprises are in store. MK Betsalel Smotrich (Bayit Yehudi/Tkuma) presented a new bill to cancel the disengagement law that led to Israel’s withdrawal from Gush Katif, Gaza, in 2005. The bill was submitted to the Knesset Secretariat but wasn’t discussed even in a preliminary reading.

It would cancel the laws pertaining to the disengagement which prohibit the entry and stay in the areas evacuated under the program, and the elimination of the rights of those who lived in them. The sections dealing with compensation and rehabilitation of deportees will be left standing

“Today it is clear to all that the expulsion from Gush Katif and northern Samaria was a foolish mortal blow to Zionism and the settlement, and brought about the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip and the difficult security situation,” said Smotrich. “It’s time to fix it, and not just through words”.

The bill was co-sponsered by MKs Zeev Elkin, Yariv Levin and Haim Katz of Likud; Orit Struck, Shuli Muallem, Moti Yogev, Zevulun Kalfa of Bayit Yehudi; Nissim Zeev of Shas, Israel Eichler and Meir Porush of United Torah Judaism; and Dudu Rotem of Yisrael Beiteinu. As stated, it was not presented to begin the legislative process.

In November, MKs Elkin (Likud) and Struk (Bayit Yehudi) drafted a bill to restore Homesh and Sa-Nur to its former Jewish residents. The foundation of the bill was based on the fact that both Homesh and Sa-Nur are in Area C – the area of Judea-Samaria under full control of the State of Israel.

  1. @ Goldi:Goldi, some call it constructive ambiguity, but I agree with you, it really is more like a degenerative chronic weakness. When Netanyahu declared during the height of the recent election campaign that the new gov’t under him would not endeavor to create a p. Terror state, OBAMA seized on that statement. Expect Bibi to tread carefully until OBAMA is safely out of office. On the other hand, if OBAMA makes a move or refuses to veto in the UN, Bibi will respond by any means.

  2. A smart step forward, cancel the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza. There is no time to waste.
And most importantly, it is time overdue to approve the LEVY REPORT, and shout to the entire world that we have LEGAL RIGHTS to the entire land from the Jordan to the Mediterranean, under International Law, Today it is the Vatican who recognizes a Palestinian State, tomorrow it will be our good friend Obama, and so on. What is the GOI waiting for? Why the silence about our rightful ownership to the Land? How can we expect any rationale if the Government keeps this most crucial issue under the carpet. And WHY????

  3. @ Bear Klein
Well, Bear, considering POTUS is threatening ISRAEL with the withholding of an American veto in the UN Security Council, I would imagine ISRAEL will go slow on these projects. Eventually they will be built and more extensively than you or anyone might imagine. Plans are in the works. In the meantime, now would be a good time to evict the Jesuits from Jerusalem and withdraw recognition of the Vatican Nazis.

  4. This bill is a good idea. Doubt it will pass.

The Levy report needs to be passed and the building in E1 extending Malaah Aduminum needs to comemnce ASAP.

  5. The shameful betrayal of the Gush Katif communities by their own country should be promptly rectified.

Ethnic cleansing of Jews from Gaza did not bring about quiet but massive terror instead. This is the fate awaiting Israel if the experience is replicated in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem.

Israel’s leaving Gaza did not solve the problem but brought Gaza to Tel Aviv.
