there is the possibility that the move to join the ICC is a move against hamas. If the pal unity gov is to be then Hamas is a part of it, and Hamas is exposed to ICC oversight. Israel is not a signatory. ICC oversight would limit Hamas moves against PA as well as Israel. shurat Ha din first suit against Hamas was the Hamas executions of fatah members. The drama of the taxes and ICC joining result in PA/unity gov being leashed by ICC. They will probably seek to limit Israeli settlement, but then BB already does that so such a ruling would only give him another fig leaf that his settlement obstruction is a result of foreign pressure. In such a scenario he would not lose points from the right for the fact that he never advances right wing settlement agenda. Its called having your cake and eating it.
@ Ted Belman:From what I hear the PA will not any ICC filings if gets it money. So Israel gets the money for electricity plus no ICC drama for now.
So far right now it smells like a behind the scenes more or less status quo will prevail for now with the PA.
PA agreed that Israel could apply nearly 500 million shekles to the debt for electricity. But Israel had withheld the money because the PA joined the ICC. No word on what is happening on that front.
