Insane Rules of Engagement make victory impossible or at least more costly

By Ted Belman

Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.Winston Churchill

Sarah Palin, in her speech at CPAC 2015, said we have “to get serious about victory”. She also took issue with the “PC rules of engagement” and said they must be “rules of engagement to win”.

US Troops fed up with Insane Rules of Engagement

COIN – the failed Counterinsurgency strategy also known as “winning the hearts and minds of the enemy.” This and “our government’s incessant tightening of already restrictive ROE (Rules of Engagement), have made an otherwise primitive enemy formidable.” The Obama Administration is telling our young men to win a war with their hands tied behind their backs. Slaughtering them.

Tighter rules of engagement contributed to US casualty rate in Afghanistan – report

The rules of engagement (ROE) put into place in 2009 and the early part of 2010 limited air and artillery strikes in the name of preventing civilian casualties, and at times called upon soldiers to restrain from firing their weapons. The report in the Washington Times indicates that, upon approaching Taliban fighters, a ground unit would often have to convince a remote commander that the threat was armed before engaging.

IDF tightens rules of engagement

According to the new guidelines (2010), soldiers are not allowed to open fire, even in the air, toward Palestinians who are stoning them. In addition, soldiers driving in an armored jeep are not allowed to shoot at a Palestinian who is about to throw a Molotov cocktail at them.

Israel should change the rules of engagement and strive for victory.

  1. Israel is a different story, where military service means doing your part to avoid being exterminated in a second Holocaust, but in the USA, I would just like to see, en masse, a boycott of the military by the military class. Nobody would desert, but soldiers simply would not re-enlist when their obligation is up, and they would let friends and family know that this is not a military worth serving in anymore and not enlist in the first place.

Part of the reason that Obama has downsized the military is that, unofficially, the above has been happening. He would downsize in any case, but the above difficulty in getting good recruits, even during the recession, forced him to cut deeper.

What is not widely publicized is the incredible loss of top guns. Fed up with the military, and courted by airlines around the world (and those Middle East 4 – Etihad, Emirates, Qatar, and Turkish – along with numerous Asian airlines, are paying top dollar for guys like this).

What the apparatchiks in our leftist media outlets will not tell you is that the reason that Obama is so gun shy is that their has been such a loss of experienced pilots and officers that we may simply be defeated in anything other than a small and short ground war.

  2. I would not send my son to fight in such a war. I rather see every enemy civilian dead than one of my own soldiers. I see no reason to take one shred of risk to protect enemies whether civilian or not. Only in the case where there is absolutely NO risk of loss of like of our own soldiers should these ROE be implemented. Better to send those who make these rules with their sons to die first.
My ROE is that enemy stone throwers are mandatorily and immediately shot DEAD! That will discourage stone throwing at babies or soldiers as opposed to encouraging stone throwing and dead Jewish babies. Whoever asks soldiers to do this should be sent to be stoned to death.

  3. Add to this stupidity, the idea of “proportionality” which by its definition decrees that only after the enemy has killed you are you allowed to kill him…
All this is of course spilling over into the civilian arena, where all self-defense is categorized as “racist” or biased in some such other manner.

  4. As an IDF combat vet still serving, I can say without reservation that had the current ROE been in effect in our previous wars, there is no way we would have emerged victorious.
Current rules of engagement, coupled with the continued busha of sending our men and women into hot zones in vehicles that are not sufficiently “armored up” leads me to believe that we have forgotten what it is to be a proud and sovereign Jewish Nation, and does not bode well for our future. It will only get worse should Livni and Herzog get in, and if that were to actually happen (it is a real possibility) I would move to rename our country “Chelm”.
As it is our forefathers would not only not recognize what we have become, they would disown us, and rightfully so.

  5. I have been advocating such standard warfare doctrine for a decade. “Rubber bullets”, “paint ball rifles”, boulder bombing, etc was brought into our so called command and leadership by a sicko strata here in Eretz Israel, who selected pseudo generals to command such insanity.
The people MUST, simply MUST utterly reject the Oslo generals and rigidly set them aside for later judgment.
Irregular Islamic enemies and anyone else acting inimically such as Iran must be destroyed.
The command structure here must be sternly vetted one by one and those found as carriers of the “cease fire” and negotiations infection, retired with prejudice.
Winning is the only outcome to be tolerated.
