American Thinker lambasted for printing garbage

By Ted Belman

American Thinker is the best conservative opinion site in America. It is also supportive of the right wing position on Israel. They have published dozens of my articles over the years.

That is why it is so out of keeping with their beliefs that they should publish anything written by Alon Ben-Meir; like the article Israel’s National Security: Delegitimizing the Legitimate. According to Wikepedia, he is “a staunch advocate of the Arab Peace Initiative.”

The comments posted to this article utterly destroys his facts and opinions and take American Thinker to task for printing his rubbish.

It is a real pleasure to read these comments coming from primarily, an American audience.

  1. A lawyers point of view: According to Major General Ion Pacepa, Brezhnev convinced Aarafat to pretend to renounce violence and to pretend to seek peace. As a lawyer, I would take the report of someone with personal knowledge of a fact, such as this high ranking defector from the Soviet bloc over Ben Meir who presents no evidence in support of his opinion . He is not qualified to offer such an opinion, either by experience or training. He is not an expert. Ben Meir’s opinion would not be permitted even to be assessed by a jury in any court of law.

  2. this article by Alon Ben-Meir purports to submit reasoned and thoughtful argument. However, on the most minimal and cursory first read I notice that the title of the article clearly sets out to delegitimize Israeli positions.

Israel’s National Security: Delegitimizing the Legitimate

The same first read reveals a plethora of assumptions presented as historical facts which have already been severely disproved historically. However, he uses the readers ignorance of historical fact to use the same inaccurate premises as a basis for his final ludicrous and unsupported conclusions. I asked myself what could possibly motivate such a pillar of the journalistic community and self appointed mideast expert to present opinion as fact? Clues abound in the wikipedia article linked to his name. From where does his income derive? Simply examine the list of publications and interviews and note:

“There is enough pessimism, pain, and disdain, and I do not choose to add my voice to the chorus of doom.…..I envision a Middle East with Arabs and Jews working and living together to achieve greatness perhaps unknown in human experience. Together, they will usher in a renaissance that will spread its light from sea to sea.” [2]

This man appears to be easily able to confuse fact with fantasy and fact with desired goals. I have found that such people tend to have little difficulty with revising facts to achieve their ends. There are many arguments of his which are easily rebutted in their premise alone which tend to be premised upon false facts and false assumptions but it is important to see the agenda and motives. I view this article as being a timely bit of disinformation designed to delegitimize resistance to the giving away of YS. Due to the timing and likely beneficiaries of these spurious arguments I would seek to find from where does Mr. Ben-Meir receive his funds. Is he a recipient of any EU and US monies or grants, or a recipient of funds from an NGO financed by the EU, US or Soros such as the NIF, etc.? IMHO there is the distinct possibility that he is paid to publish such disinformation.
