The movie behind the attack

The movie is a no-holds barred attack on Mohammed. It is totally legitimate to characterize him so. Mohammed as he really is.

Protesters in Egypt and Libya attacked US diplomatic missions on Tuesday in a spasm of violence that led to the death of a State Department officer at the consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi after fierce clashes at the compound.

The violence in Benghazi followed protests in neighboring Egypt where protesters scaled the walls of the Cairo embassy and tore down the American flag and burned it during protests over what demonstrators said was a US film that insulted the Prophet Mohammed.

Following the spasm of attacks, the filmmaker, who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, has gone into hiding.

Writer and director Sam Bacile spoke on the phone Tuesday from an unidentified location. He remained defiant, saying Islam is “a cancer” and he wanted his film to make a political statement.

The 56-year-old says he believes his video will help his native land by exposing Islam’s flaws to the world. Excerpts dubbed into Arabic were posted on YouTube.

Among other claims that have caused outrage, the film claims Mohammed was a philanderer who approved of child sexual abuse.

Bacile says he’s sorry for the person who died, but blames lax embassy security.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Bacile said he raised $5 million from about 100 Jewish donors, whom he declined to identify. Working with about 60 actors and 45 crew members, he said he made the two-hour movie in three months last year in California.

The film has been promoted by Dr. Terry Jones, the Florida pastor whose burning of Qurans previously sparked deadly riots around the world, who said Tuesday that he planned to show a 13-minute trailer that night at his church in Gainesville, Fla.

“It is an American production, not designed to attack Muslims but to show the destructive ideology of Islam,” he said in a statement. “The movie further reveals in a satirical fashion the life of Muhammad.”

Meanwhile, in wake of the attacks on US diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya, republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney harshly criticized the Obama administration for its response to the attacks.

In a statement Tuesday night, Romney says he’s outraged by the attacks. But he calls it “disgraceful” that the Obama administration’s first reaction wasn’t to condemn the Tuesday attacks but, in Romney’s words, “to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

Earlier in the day, the US Embassy in Cairo issued a statement condemning what it called “continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims,” an apparent reference to the video.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed the death of the US diplomat, who was not identified, and condemned the attack on the Benghazi consulate.

Clinton further expressed concern that the protests might spread to other countries. She said the US is working with “partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.”

“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet,” Clinton said in a statement released by the State Department. “The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.”

  1. Movie? Islamic deranged hordes have committed a never ending sequel of ghastly bestial attacks everywhere for decades WITHOUT a MOVIE… It is a monstrous cult of death and that is that.
    Anyone ever taking any chances with adherents to that amoral setting is w/o a doubt a willing victim in waiting to the monsters acts.
    I have heard at the SHUK that, at least here, they associate the sequel of attacks with celebrating 9/11.

  2. I don’t care if the movie is crap. We have freedom of speech and expression in America. The issue isn’t this movie. The issue is an act of war committed against America.

  3. @ Ted Belman:

    The movie was a piece of shit but its purpose was not to win an academy award. Its purpose might have been to stir up the Muslims around the world to attack Jews.

    There seems to be too many “blue-eyed” actors in the movie to think it was an Arab attempt to stir up anti-Jewish hatred. There seems to be a lot of whites in the movie. So either some Jews made it or some Christians.

    It is terrible though. It makes Ed Wood look like a cinematic genius.

  4. I was out with a group of high profile bloggers tonight and we discussed the movie. First of all there seems to be only the trailer you saw. No other movie exists. Secondly, there seemed to be evidence that the movie maker was not Israeli at all.

    Suspect all attribution of who made the movie and who paid for it etc.

    The movie was a piece of shit but its purpose was not to win an academy award. Its purpose might have been to stir up the Muslims around the world to attack Jews.

  5. @ Bill Levinson:

    Bill Levinson says:

    The movie looks accurate to me!

    I think Mohammed was more sinister than a California surf stoner with a sword.

    This movie makes Mohammed look stupid when he should be treated as evil.

  6. Part 1 – Needs to be said:

    Burning korans, calling Muslims savages and other derogatory names, publishing cartoons of the prophet, and making fictional films such as “The Muhammad Movie” discussed in the above column, do not accomplish anything except making Muslims angry.

    I haven’t watched it yet. I don’t think it will tell me anything I don’t know about Islam already. Latest news from Islam: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/

    The best way to slow down Islam’s increased dominance in the West is by placing a moratorium on Muslim immigration. No advocate is proposing this at the moment. Internet pages are filled with outrage at what Muslims are doing, but quite empty of solutions on how to prevent Islam’s spread to our part of the world.

  7. The director should not get beheaded by Muslims for this.

    He should get beaten by Hollywood critics for producing a piece of crap.

    With the $5 million he was given to make this movie, he could have produced a masterpiece documentary on the order of a Michael Moore film … only in this case, exposing the atrocity of Islam and its founder.

    This movie looks like it was produced with last year’s version of Windows Movie Maker and a few photoshop images. Ed Woods could have done better.

    It should be called: PLAN 9 FROM MECCA by Ed Woodstafa.

    Mohammed and his atrocious religion deserve a real exposé. What could have been another FITNA does not even rise to the level of Moe, Larry, and Curly.

    So what happened to the other $4,999,995 that he did not spend on producing this film?

    This movie is insulting … NOT to Muslims … but to Americans.

    The Jewish donors should go after him for misuse of funds; not the Muslim rabble go after innocents.

  8. Hitlery Clinton was adamant in her support for these ” rebels “. Recall her ” what side are you on ? ” moment.

    In time, we will learn who are the Clintons’ and Obama’s, McCain’s,,, paymasters.

  9. Which reminds me, it was the US that helped topple the Shah of Iran. Which brought in the Ayatollahs, the takeover of the US embassy, and a terror-sponsoring, nuclear Iranian regime.

    But the US swears that creating a Nazi Judenrein Palestinian State will bring peace to the Middle East, and it will cure the Muslim anger management affliction in a jiffy. No more angry mobs. ~~~ Muslim rage, they say, stems from the Israeli “occupation”.

    ~~~~~~~
    So far, Israel is an island of peace, democracy and stability in the Middle East. But not for long. Unknown forces are already stirring things up in the Palestinian Authority. Time for a belated Arab Spring in Israel….
  10. Tragic irony. It was the US that encouraged and helped in the toppling of secular and semi-friendly Arab dictators to be replaced by even more rabid Islamists.
    Not long after, US embassies in Egypt and Libya are stormed, and Ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff are murdered by mob.
    Still, the State Department made sure it apologized for the offending movie. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2012/09/11/Hillary-Contradicts-Obama-on-Egypt-Apology
