One thing is clear and that is that the US cannot allow Iran to have its way in the Middle East. If you have any doubt just read today’s post, Iran must be stopped. If the public doesn’t get it yet, they will. Just wait until Bush steps up the rhetoric.
Whether the “surge” plan will do the trick is open to debate. But just keep it in mind, where there’s a will there is a way, at least for the US. The new plan involves far more than a surge in troops. It involves all kinds of moves including destoying Hezbollah, stopping Hamas and confronting Syria.
The US has assembled a huge armada in the Persian Gulf as has the EU in the eastern Mediterranean. Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, Jordan and Egypt have all be enlisted to the cause. So has Israel. I highly doubt that the US has stopped the transfer of arms and technology to Israel as has been recently reported. With the battles that are looming it doesn’t make sense that the US would be weakening Israel at this time rather than strengthening it. So I don’t buy it.
NewsMax reports Bush Targets Iran in Speech, Implies Military Action.
Now a key to this plan is ensuring that a stable Iraq will be an ally in the War on Terror and will not join Iran in common cause. Although not much is said about this, I can’t imagine that the US isn’t orchestrating things with the Iraqi government to ensure a positive outcome. This is not something being left to chance.
As for Russia and China not supporting sanctions, it is my guess that that they will when they are convinced that the US is about to bomb Iran. Sanctions for them are preferable. Besides China is not about to alienate Saudi Arabia.
So fasten your seat belts. Its going to be a wild ride.
Again Ted you are casting illusions in this Bush Government at a time when Israel must realize it has to go it alone against Iran. Also Israel must stay out of Iraq. It is not our fight on Israpundit either. The Jews have all been driven out of Iraq does that not determine our policy.
